I'm finding the more and more I get /out/, the less shit I want in my house that isn't /out/ related. I'm planning this weekend to take a truck bed full shit to Goodwill and just get rid of it not only to clean up some clutter, but to also decrease my overall equity for the eventual day I go /out/ permanently.
Anyone find themselves doing something similar, on an almost instinctual level?
No sorry Im not an autistic idealist.
No that would be complete autism.
On an instinctual level? No, it's a conscious decision. I have pared down the amount of shit I own dramatically over the last few years. Every few months I just do a ruthless inventory of what I own and ask myself "Do I really use this?" and if the answer is no then it's gone.
/out/ reasons aside, it just feels good to have less stuff and to know that the stuff I do have has a purpose to me.
I currently live in Miami, FL and honestly I like it but I rather live somewhere else and more comfy. In a few years (4+ years from now) I feel like moving to another state. I want to have my own log cabin and nice big plot of land, and I want to be able to do things like hiking, fishing, hunting, shooting, camping, and etc. Basically just some /out/door shit.
What are some things I need to think about?
First thing that comes to my mind is employment, I really don't fucking know what I could do as a job. I think I would need some sort of career or something at least.
Property could be cheap. Probably a few thousand per acre of land, I guess it depends where I go. A log cabin would probably cost like $100K to be built. (It's better to build your own home because fuck paying mortgage!)
This is where my second question comes. What would be a good state/place to settle in? Has to have some good gun laws, and not so strict laws for Marijuana.
A good thing about living like this is that it should be pretty fucking cheap! If I use a well with a pump then I wouldn't have to pay for water, if I build (or hire someone) my own house I don't have to pay mortgage and insurance.
How does this idea sound? I would appreciate some advice! Thanks a lot in advance.
>thinks buying decent plot of land and building a house will "probably be cheap"
>"I think I need some sort of career"
lol. Focus on getting a job kid.

I have done research and talked to someone that did something similar. You can get land for a pretty cheap price, especially foreclosed shit or very remote. 150K is not a lot, it really isn't (The average home where I currently live is like upwards of 200K) Miami is expensive compared to other parts of the US. I currently work a shit fucking job.
If I go to a new area with basically no degree besides a High School diploma, how am I gonna get any work anywhere? I need to have a career or some type of skill.

>In a few years (4+ years from now)
Come back in four years when you've graduated high school.
I have a medium sized lab that I need a coat for, for when we go for long day/evening/early morning hikes in the freezing cold. Essentially overnight camping as well.
Any suggestions on brands?

Wind breaker might be more important.
Child size sweatshirt that also ties at the waist. Shop for your dog at the salvation army.

This. I found a kid's soft shell jacket and cut the sleeves down. Cut out the zippers, and sew in three velcro tabs. I like soft shell because it'll keep the dog warm even if they decide to go swimming w/e.

Ive always wanted a .17hmr rifle. But in the US the .22lr is just so much more popular. Just wish 22mag rifles where more of a thing... (i know just use 5.56.)
>>891397
Seriously wanted one s few years back but ended up getting a 22mag. Couldn't justify the 17 as ammo was quite expensive and hard to find at the time (in Australia).
>>891413
The 22 mag a d 5.56 are not really close in terms of performance.
The 22 mag is popular. Not as popular as the .22lr, but you can find many guns in 22 mag. Ammo isn't expensive and easy to find too.
Is Mick Dodge /ourguy/?
>>890946
fucken radagast. NO
>>890948
Why not? He's lived in the woods for 25 years and is such a nice and wise old man.
>>890946
I'm sure he can be /yourguy/ if you want.
Like most /out/doorsman and /out/doorswoman I'm sure you can enjoy a good moustache as much as anyone. Make Movemeber one to remember and ask not what your moustache can you but what you can do for your moustache.
Vote Pedro
Are you with moustache? Together we can make moustaches great again. Why the moustache not? What moustache do you have to loose?

I'm doing movember but I'm not raising any money or anything. I'm gonna look like a cowboy from the olden days c}:

Has anyone found good European milsurp stuff? It seems to be a mixed bag. I have an 80s Bundeswehr parka that just won't die. It is too heavy and ill-fitting to camp with, but I use it for gardening and metalwork.
>>890612
bought a complete m51 uniform, including jacket, pants, fishing hat, field hat, wool scarf, canteen set and field flask for about $100. got a folding spade (don't know what to use it for) m77 boots and a canvas backpack already
cheaper than buying normie outdoor clothing, i'm a greedy bastard
>>890612
Like you said, there's some pretty damn good stuff, there's complete garbage and just about everything in between.
>>890612
Palyatka- the russian shelter half/rain cape is pretty bomb for what it is. Kinda hard to fuck up basically a canvas tarp.
Anyone have experience with any of the surplus boots? I've been checking out the British patrol boots, cheap for the quality of boot they seem to me. Not necessarily looking to hike or do tons of innawoods shit with them, moreso looking for a new pair general use boots (digging, shoveling snow, odd jobs around the house, that kind of thing)
I keep finding these things around my house, and the internet isn't helping. Does anyone know what the hell they are?
Also, in New Hampshire.

GET OUT OF THE HOUSE OP
GET OUT OF THE HOUSE NOW
DON'T TOUCH THEM
Looks like an undeveloped wheel bug. They get way bigger and more "fuck you" looking. Not dangerous but they can give you a nasty bite like a hornet sting. They tend to conglomerate around houses much like stink bugs which is really annoying.
>>889884
It's too late now, op. If you see their adult forms then they already have a generation of pupi's inside you.
>RIP Op
Just guessing this is the right place. Anyway...
I am interested in installing an electric motor on my bicycle because I am a fatass who permanently injured his foot, and I want to go places and shit, like fishing. Anyone here have experience with ebikes who can tell me if they are powerful enough to climb a steep hill with no pedalling? I'd also like to buy cheap chinese shit if there aren't too many downsides. Thanks.

Probably more help there.

/diy/ or /t/ are better suited for that question
voltage = horsepower
Wh or Ah = gas tank

you want twist or thumb throttle and NO pedal assist bullshit as your foots fucked.
also, buy an ATV or similar, retard.
I found this sludgy stuff in my creek and am curious what it is. I have never seen it in my creek in the 18 years I have lived here. The consistency is thick and it looks oily. Thank you for any help

How to live and achieve the /out/ dream? Has anyone here succeeded in living on your own innawoods? If so, how did you accomplish this?
probably the majority of the world still lives /out/. you chose pop culture resources instead of learning from people that live off the land everyday of every generation of their time. truthfully western academia has only recently been able to comprehensively replicate the livelihoods of simpler livers, through visual anthropology
agriculture isnt the science or act of growing, it's very literally the culture

Where do I go to learn from natives that won't murder me? Or any good resources I can access online?
The faggotry here became palpable in an impressively small number of posts! You two deserve an award.
Might be a long shot but anyone familiar with the Black Forest? I just got stationed in Germany at Ramstein and we have a three day weekend for Veterans Day so I haven't had time to plan. Anyone recommend some good parks, or specific train stations that I should aim for to go on a day hike? And for the future is there any must see areas for the winter since that's coming?
If you really want to go to the Black Forest, you could head down to one of the towns around the Titisee. I went to Breitnau with my in-laws last year and hiked the Wutachschlucht and we had a blast. There are a lot of ski slopes around there, too (like the Feldberg) if you go in wintertime.
It's probably a bit late in the year to enjoy it fully. Many trees will already have lost their leaves.
>>889366
Breitnau, got it, I'll look into it. I can find big trails easy enough, but just finding little 5-10km things to hike over the course of a day is like pulling teeth! All the German nationals in the shop are violently anti-outdoors so they don't know of anything down there.
>>889367
Yeah I missed it by a few weeks, but I'm from the northeast US so I went back on leave right at the perfect time before coming here so it works out.
What kind of axe is this?
>>888176
what axe?
srsly tho, I'd fuck her butthole all night.

The nice ass kind.
No but seriously, it's some double bit, possibly a western or crown pattern. Looks like a decent brand although i can't be sure without seeing it at a better angle.

Looking for a better brand of blade of EDC. My last knife was a Kershaw and I am looking to switch it up since I don't think Kershaw has a very good selection.
