To prevent sore throat in cold weather should you breathe through your mouth or nose? I get store throat just by sleeping with a fan on at night. I want to go hunting this winter but don't want strep.

I would like to know this too. Fucking pussy ass throat always bothering me.

nose, always breath through your nose. The reason you get a sore throat when breathing through your mouth is because you are bringing air directly into your mouth and the back of your throat where with breathing through the nose you have kind of a filter
>>

Any time I feel a tickle in my throat in the colder months I mix minced garlic and crushed cayenne pepper in honey and take a few tablespoons throughout the day. I almost never get sick.

WW3 breaks out and the US declares war and implements a draft. Terrorists attacks are already happening in major cities in the US and thousands of Americans begin to die in heavily populated areas, foreign army has boots on our soil. You plan to cross the US/Canadian border on foot, through backcountry trails. No ID or passport. All you have is yourself and a pack. What do you pack in an at most 50L pack? How many days of food will you pack? What is your shelter, sleep system? Water filtration? You will have to plan on surviving and foraging for months even up to over a year. (Depending if the chaos spreads to Canada. Choose wisely /out.

Alright, I pack a gallon of water, a flattened loaf of bread, peanut butter, and a small jar of protein powder. The rest of the room will be taken up by the necessities: gold/cash, a compass, knives, a hatchet, water purifier, fire starter, and the rest. Of course, I would use my car in the beginning, but I image at some point I will not be able to go any further in a vehicle. To make the rest of the journey quicker, I would only sleep a couple hours a day in a tree or under a bush. My final destination would be a small town in Alberta. Alberta is far from the coasts and I would be safer in a small town.

>Dad thinks we have a chance of freezing to death
>Tell him that packing a heater is just something else taking up space in my bag
>He's not convinced. He's not going to make a big deal of it, but he's worried about the dog and I

I think the dog will be fine, and I'll be layered and in a sleeping bag. Lifelong friend is from CO and has told me that the weather never gets so cold that a coat and blanket inside a tent won't fix.

Mexican cartels booby trapping their illegal national park pot farms are a more real and tangible threat to my /out/ experience.

At what point do we start to use deadly force to try and save our planet? Should people start targeting these world leaders who deny what is happening? I don't mean to sound insane or alarming here, I just don't know what else can be done. Hopefully the rest of the world really ups their efforts to slow the damage down, and then the US gets in line.

Amnesty International observes Dakota-pipeline project

http://www.amnestyusa.org/news/press-releases/amnesty-international-usa-to-monitor-to-north-dakota-pipeline-protests

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVXejqh-Zuk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq3egS_CCYA

>Amnesty International is a non-governmental organisation focused on human rights with over 7 million members and supporters around the world.

The Dakota Access Pipeline protests, also known by hashtags such as NoDAPL, are a grassroots movement that began in the spring of 2016 in reaction to the proposed construction of Energy Transfer Partners' Dakota Access Pipeline. The proposed pipeline would run from the Bakken oil fields in western North Dakota to southern Illinois, crossing beneath the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, as well as part of Lake Oahe near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Except for the addition of land in Iowa, the route is almost identical to that of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline, which was defeated by activists and vetoed by President Barack Obama.

Hey /out/ I'm thinking of getting a nice sleeping bag that will last me my whole life for my 21st. I have no idea what is good in a sleeping bag though and need some help. What would you guys recommend? Is down good? I live in a cooler part of Australia if you need a guide for the climate. Thanks in advance. (Also general sleeping bag thread)
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>885416
Down is more expensive but has much better warmth-to-weight/volume ration when compressed. Down must also NOT get wet as it takes forever to dry and getting it soaked can actually ruin it for good if you arent carefull.

I'd recommend a synthetic sleeping bag for you because of these reasons - unless it rarely rains where you live.
Chose a bag from a respected brand and be sure that the min. comfort temperature is as low as the lowest temperature that you expect to use it in (the "extreme" temperature rating IS extreme and you will not sleep comfortably in these ranges)

>deforestation isn't real
you're right about the other two being preposterous but holy shit apart from the ones in north america every major forest is decreasing in size and density because of human activity
>>
>>879370
That has been debunked by many researchers. The actual rate of deforestation globally is less than a tenth of percent, when you factor in that most timber is being cleared for it's uses and then replanted, not cleared for human development. Deforestation, in the true sense, means the conversion of forest to some other permanent or semi-permanent land use.
