Are these bed bugs?

These fuckers have been in my room for a few weeks now. I dont know their source, they do have wings, and fly. At least the ones that land on my monitor at night.

As far as I know bed bugs cant fly, but can jump?
They sometimes land on me, but no bites at all. ever.

size wise, its small. like a fruit fly. which is what I thought they were at first before catching one.

Hey guys, sc/out/ here, joined the Air Force and I'm going to be able to leave tech school sometime in the next couple weeks. We can't drive more than 2.5 hours from Sheppard AFB, which pretty much stops us from leaving the Fort Worth, Dallas, OKC triangle.

What sort of outdoorsy stuff is there to do to pass the time when not studying, especially hiking (not too into the hunting and fishing, which takes a lot of paperwork.)

So far my goals are to hike Mount Scott in the Wichita Mountains, see Geronimo's burial at Fort Sill, go to the Chickasaw Natl. Recreation Area for their springs, then hike some trails at Copper Breaks and stop to see the fossil tracks at Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Anything I'm missing? Also looking for non-/out/ suggestions, it's boring as hell here.

I'm not sure this is the right board for this, but it seems /out/ related. Thoreau lived a pretty simple life for a while, what do you think about it? Would it be the ideal /out/ life?

Actually a pretty decent book. Read it during a backpacking trip through Wyoming.
Sometimes it gets a little existential but overall it was nice to get the perspective of a life in "solitude."
>>

Halfway through it right now. I find the passage with the native american basket seller enlightening. Why should I spend my whole life figuring out how to make money when I can instead live my life without the need for much money and do what I love?
>>
I like it, it's a good read. But I feel like it gets pretty over hyped. His life wasn't that much more simple compared to a lot of others at the time. He basically just took a sabbatical at his friend's cabin.

Still, even if it's not a tale of survivalism or primitivism it's a book people should read. Partly because HDT was one of the first American literary works that wasn't a political pamphlet, and also because it's a good story about stepping away from your normal life and learning about yourself.

marker bouy. it has a soft piece of lead on the end. you find an are you want to mark be it ledge, rock shelf, reef, drop off and you drop it off the side of the boat. it marks the location of the structure you would like to fish.

I use my fish finder to do this now a days.

Two kinds of moss here. I picked them up from a local specialty native plants breeder. He says he could never identify the species, that he doesnt know mosses at all, neither do I. Anyone have any clue what we are looking at? Am told these are native to the Pineywoods of southeast Texas.

I was hoping to get pointers and tips for long term camping/urban survival.

I plan to locate camps aprox 10 miles from a town in BLM land so I can obtain certain food supplies. Local law allows up to 14 days in one spot never to return for 1 year and have to move 5 miles away at which point I backpack to next spot.

I need help on anything such as taking free showers for example . I will bathe in the streams if needed, but I wouldn't mind a warm shower from time to time during winter time.

I've never been to much anywhere else but my local trails and the streams are clean enough to drink straight as long as you don't deliberately drink turbid water but do other anons have any tips or such for finding and purifying?

I have a Sawyer Mini (I don't buy the gorillion gallon guarantee but it seems solid enough) but am thinking of pairing it with a fluid pump from ebay or something because the dirty water is going into the inlet so a solid seal isn't particularly important with the pump itself.

Do others use iodine or chlorine and how would you compare it with other methods? It seems convenient but I'm wary of expiration dates and supposedly it causes stomach troubles but have never used it so wouldn't know.

the wawyer mini is good for what it does. but apparently you actually used it, unlike thr morons that recommend it here.

get a first need. they are expensive. they have a few pages of instuctions. and the replacement filters cost almost as much as the unit.

but trust me. it is the absolute best filter, unless you are a "15 pounds is to much" hiker.

they save on weight just to wait. pottery.
>>
i got a katadyn pocket. never had trouble with it and the filter lasts forever.

>iodine or chlorine
just no

just my opinion though
>>
>>879204
i cant imagine not having a camp fire so I usually sport two 48oz stainless bottles for a majority of my water needs then use a sawyer or my pump katydyn when I am on the move/emergencies. I hate iodine or bleach to purify and never personally carry it.
>>879209

It's starting to get cold here in Canada, and I'm planning a camping trip in two weeks. What are some tips on stating warm? I have a sleeping bag that's rated to 0 but it will most likely dip bellow that.

Crawl in your bag completely dry. Better clothed and dry, but better naked and dry than wet anything.

After in your bag, stuff dry clothes in there with you. It will help insulate, and also remove the air space it takes to heat up the remaining room.

Obvious is heating a metal bottle with water before bed, stuff in a sock, and enjoy.

Also get a dedicated pissing water bottle to save you from having to get up before you want to.

Eat a snack before bed. Will help you with metabolism of keeping warm.

That cold you do not risk rain, so open your vestibule more than usual to increase airflow, which reduces Condensation, and helps avoid a wet sleeping bag.

Insulate yourself from the ground, of course.

Camping that cold is serious business, but absolutely doable. Also guarantees you seclusion.

Have fun and take photos for us, brother!
