Did you stay in a DOC hut or did you just camp where ever? New Zealand is pretty strict in places about wild/stealth camping and they say you are required to inform DOC about it.
abandoned mine exploration

How fucked am I /out/?

GO TO A FUCKING DOCTOR, NOT FUCKING 4CHAN!! JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!!
probably hypochondria, possibly a random virus that'll pass. if you disagree you should see mista docta
Not sure if it's worth replying as you're likely dead from advanced stages of tickborne illness by now...bu if you are still alive, try to maintain consciousness and call 911.
Time in hand is brief, but I am loving my ceramic edc blade!
Very light weight, lets face it, with proper saw and axe (fuck hatchets) all you need a blade for is opening plastic packages and cutting pieces of moleskin for your tenderfeet!
Never needs sharpening, saves wieght of sharpening stone!
> CERAMIC IS FINE
No.
Fuck off.
>>887242
> adding nothing
Your assertion is less than convincing.
You are advocating horse and buggy tech; are you Luditite?
Do you think there is an old man in the sky, too?
Get with the 21st century!

No
I already have a very light knife which doesn't break when I drop it.
What's your favourite type of camping? My personal favourite is hammock camping as it is always comfy and the hammock and tarp doesn't take up much space.
>>886762
Hammock camping is the way to go. I jacked up my knee a few yrs ago, need a full knee replacement. So atm if I lay on the ground or any thing, it can be a pain to get back up. So hammock just makes it much more easier.
>>886762
I carry a little Bushnell 1 person. It's pretty dope, I don't have any problems sleeping on the ground. But recently my fiance got a hammock and we carried it just to chill in at the campsite, and I found myself really wishing I was prepared to sleep in it. I'm thinking of investing in one, besides comfort, just like you said the space and weight are so convenient.
I agree hammock camping is my favorite, but really... is any camping bad?
Backpacking with the hammock, freedom to explore, physically challenging at times, can get far away. I love the comfort and uniqueness of a hammock. It's not for everyone. I especially am starting to enjoy cold weather and winter camping in the hammock.
Car camping. Can bring lots of beer, have a stereo with some tunes, bring all your friends and have a party. Can be at an established campground or just a field with a bunch of pickup trucks and a bonfire.
RV glamping. All the comforts of home. Have a fridge stocked with food and beer. Can use as a Basecamp to day hike wherever you want. Can get a group of friends with RVs, and being people who normally don't camp.
No need to hate on any one type, Im open minded enough to enjoy being outside many ways. In fact, just in the last 2 months I've done all 3 types I described.
no idea if this is the correct board
>do you bring yours while out?

When I was a kid, my dad and I used to hunt geese with slingshots. I had a pretty good one, it was tubed with a nice malleable piece of leather for the ball bearing.
Wish I knew what happened to that thing.
>>886726
I use to. I rather bring my 22, just dick around with that all day

It always makes me sad when you lose relics of your childhood like that. Especially things that brought you closer to your friends and family.

What does /out/ think of the Hatchet series?
>>886635
i've read every book the series has to offer, not a single bad book in the bunch
the first book "hatchet" makes you feel very confident in the ability to survive with just a hatchet, the way Gary wrote it is wonderful.
very inspiring and it makes you want to do it yourself
ive read it three times and audio booked it once
PLEASE read it the first time. its much better, and gives you that confidence i was talking about, more visualization with reading
"brians return" seems a little farfetched in some parts of the story it's still a good read none-the-less
the ending to brians return leaves you with more to be desired and a slightly bland ending.
you will wish that there was more closure and a loving scene between the two lads
brians winter is pretty decent i like it myself. very comparable to the first book hatchet.
the very first book makes it seem like you could actually take on the woods with just a hatchet, the same goes with brians winter.
9/10 already read it again....and again...
>>886663
im sorry Disregard what i said about "brians return" and switch the name with "the river"
the river is what i meant to talk about!
>>886635
brians return is just a add on to after what happened in "the river" and is also a good book,
not much to say about it myself
brians hunt is the most interesting/action filled book besides the original "hatchet"
my favorite of the series personally. definitely a good read.
again reading is better than the audio for this book. makes you feel like you are brian.
Anyone in the NE USA have experience with the White Mountains at this time of the year? I'm staying at a nearby hotel this weekend and I'm thinking about hiking the Jewell Trail to the Gulfside Trail Junction, and seeing what the conditions are like to the summit.
I'll be with someone else who is a novice.
>Washington
>November
There may be snow, it will be windy, it will not get about 30 degrees during the day, there will be tourists who took the tram up, a bowl of chilli at the summit costs $7. Great views and overall fun hike tho
>>885288
cbf searching but I'm pretty sure there are public access webcams at the top, and even if there aren't, there are sure as hell full condition reporst available.
Just go look at those. As long as you don't get a whiteout from some serious snowstorm it's pretty hard to fuck up a day hike there as long as you stay warm, which is easily achieved by wearing clothes.
>>885288
Was in the Whites two weeks ago. You can count on snow everywhere above 4000 ft for sure. If you're hiking with a complete novice, I wouldn't recommend it. Especially if you want to summit- yesterday I think the summit forecast was for -15F wind chill. It's windy as hell and you will definitely need crampons or microspikes.
If you still wanna hike in that area, maybe look into Imp Face? It's right across from Mt. Washington, lower in elevation and you still get a very nice view from the top.
I dont know man, I watched this and immediately thought to back up but what if you cant back up anymore?
Is there a time to just turn around and run?

>be bear
>just want to take the path home to get some food and screw my bear wife
>some tall brightly colored creature holding a black rectangle up is blocking the path and slowing me down
>it turns around and runs away
>>885230
>Is there a time to just turn around and run?
Yes, after you plug the bear full of lead.
A bear is much faster than any man so no point in running away.
Is anyone organizing a Secret Santa this year? If not, I made up a form. I know it's a bit early, but better to get started early than too late.
>I'm from *insert country* can I join in?
Hell yes, everyone is welcome to participate. I'll try my best to pair people with other participants in their country/region.
>When is the cutoff date to join
December 1st is the last day you can join.
>When will we get paired up
December 3rd
The link is in the OP image, if you're having issues, want me to email you the link, or have any questions feel free to message me

Was wondering if no one was interested, though I suppose this is a slow board.
Here's a link to the signup to the Secret Santa, There's more info and directions on the form itself, but 4chan keeps thinking its spam so I can't post it directly.

Maybe some lucky anon will receive this wondrous rock.
This isn't a dick measuring thread. Just post what you're skills are and what you need improving on, and offer tips. Post infographics and stuff.

What are good adjustable knots? I currently only know of the taut line hitch and the hangman's knot. Are there any others?
ask your knot-related questions ITT
>>876683
>What are good adjustable knots? I currently only know of the taut line hitch and the hangman's knot
to expand on that question, I would like to replace the (broken plastic) strap adjuster on my cheap rucksack.
as far as I can tell it's just solidly attached at one end, and then you have a friction hitch to make it adjustable:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V4U2WaCfM4
so my question is: is there a simpler way to do this with paracord than to do fix it to one end of the strap and then use a taut line hitch for the adjustable part?
>>876683
Tangentially related, an android app called Useful Knots has lots of, well, useful knots. As an added bonus, the app works offline.
Learn some friction hitches.
The blake's hitch is very versatile.
The distel and knut are also very versatile, but they require different diamater cordage.
ABOK. Look it up. Also, knots at work by jeff jepson is a great book. Everyone should check it out.
Out here found this looks like a hard boiled egg inside of this mushroom. Is it safe to eat and what kind of specimen is it. Also general survival safe to eat out here thread.
>>886305

With all due respect to /out/, I don't really think that 4chan is the place to be asking such questions.
