So I'm thinking about hiking Havasupai in the early spring and I'd like to hear from any anons that have done the full trail about fees, camping, experience etc.
And if you haven't done it but know northern AZ or much of the surrounding area, what's good? I've stomped around the canyons in Sedona and some of the mountain paths in Payson, but I'm only getting my feet wet in a beautiful landscape that's been totally unprecedented. (I moved to the Valley, it's shit here.)

Did Havasu Falls past Mooney last weekend, filename.jpg.

Hiked out from camp ground in 5.75 hrs, broke camp and hit trail at 4:15AM.
Stuck tent night before to keep from doing it in dark.
What kind of bug is this? It just really high.
>>891906
How big is it?
Don't bother, it's the Guatemalan Deathbeetle of Quetzalacatenango. OP posted almost 3 hours ago, he's long dead.
Pic related, what happens when you get bit.

There would be no point in putting a handle on that. Its too light to use as a hatchet and too fucked to use as a weapon
Cute idea.
Shit in practice.
I'm old enough to remember the Rambo knife. It was ghimicky crap that was good for a laugh but no one actually believed it would enable you to survive a disaster.
Now it's a multi-billion dollar industry complete with fanboys and fashion accessories.
You're a bunch of idiots.
Hey mates I'm going to be living in the desert a while I have body soap and shampoo but no detergent how can I wash my clothes I do have access to a water source although it's a river so it's not entirely clean looking for advice and ideas?
Dunk your clothes in the river, wring out some of the water. Do this a few times and then let your clothes dry.
>>891466
This. Detergent is a meme.
I don't know how washboards work (like what you need to go with them) but I know they've been used for a long time.
Hello /out/
I'm 11 months into pursuing my dream of escaping societys menacing clutches. In February i moved out of my mums house and have basically been staying in homeless shelters ever since, ive spent a small amount of time camping but nowhere near what id like to be doing.
My goal is to set up a small home over winter where i can grow my own veg, and prepare to grow peas beans and ganja next summer. then go WWOOFing in somewhere like jamaica.
I have to stay in the UK (s wales) for a while because I'm applying for a grant to start up my business.
This business will be a personal brand and after building an audience ill affiliate products. With the money i will also study to be a holistic lifestyle coach.
Then with
>???
>profit
I'll buy a bikepacking set up and do my ting elsewhere.
any advice from anyone whose tried a smiliar thing?
My kit is alright atm and im happy to go into detail. just ordered pic related.
anyone else doing something similar aswell?
So instead of leaching off your mum, you're leaching off homeless charities and the state?
Jesus christ Anon...

want to get into Winter camping. dont trust my lightweight one man tent with the wet snow we've been getting and i dont want to shell out for a Shilleberg
what do you recon about this?

4 season tents are a meme.
There are 3 season tents, and you dress in layers to add an additional season. Just waterproof and seam seal your current tent and make sure you max out your ventilation.
>>890923
dont trust the pole structure of my current tent though. quite a bit of weight to hold up if it snows during the night

Good luck with that. Don't be a retard and just cough up the $$$ for a quality piece of equipment instead of trying to save a few dollars and ending up with chink shit.
Hey /out/doorsmen I just bought a hobo fishing kit (pic related). How do I go about catching fish with it?
By using Google.
Also
>buying hobo gear
>not making hobo gear
You're doing it very wrong.
>>890557
I bought it for a tenner, because between my dissertation and work I don't have a spare day that I'd rather spend making a hobo reel than being innawoods, prick.

>be lazy millennial
>call someone else a prick
Ok
Anyone have experience using a pack to carry your logs long distance?
I'm thinking about buying one of those $50 frames used for deer. Think it'll do the job?
>>889982
>carry your logs long distance
yeah, clean up the branch and tie a loop on it and drag it whole don't cut it up.
you will move more with less effort.
>>890048
>creating a scenario to fit your solution
Yeah ok.
a friend and I recently carried pieces of firewood in paper bags to a quarry for a fire. It worked well enough, even if the weight was killer and the idea stupid. A paper bag/satchel will carry more than that pack at less cost anyways
Well /out/ it IS Halloween so lets have a good ole spoopy innawoods thread. I will be dumping my folder so feel free to add your own personal stories or anything you saved. Happy Halloween!
Hey there faggotry experts, how are you preparing for the next ice age? What states will be the safest to escape the glacial onslaught?
http://dailycaller.com/2016/10/31/the-next-little-ice-age-is-already-here-russian-scientist-claims/
You may not post in this thread if you don't believe that mankind is killing the planet but that God saved us by BTFO Al Gore.
Does anyone else find it funny that everyone is worried about global warming and yet we will live the rest of our lives in an ice age?
https://m.youtube.com/user/MyanmarLiving
Can't wait, going to stay right here and get all winter comfy. This next few years is going to be fun.

Pick one.
Small haul from my most recent outing. Really dense quarts quarry up in the mountains, came back with some nice looking ones. The smaller top-left 2 I'm thinking about tumbling to smooth and making a pair of pendents out of.
Anyone else collect when /out/?
Bottom left was the clear winner. The dark red with orange center pattern looks pretty amazing. I'm unsure how I want to touch it up though.

My property is covered in quartz.
Best pic I could take of his one, you can see my fingers with the transparency.
Although it doesn't look like it, if this one was polished it would be as clear as glass (cleanest one I've found).
Most are shades of pink or are milky white.
Sent a couple to a friend who has a rock saw for geodes, but they just shattered.
>>881716
Most that I collect wind up around my rose bed.
Crappy tablet doesn't show red and pink tones well, but whatever.
I'll usually come back with 5 pounds from my walks directly after heavy rains.
ITT CHAINSAWS
I looking for new motorsaw.
-->What kind do you use?
-->What kind would you recommend?
-->Are you a chainsaw addict?
also nice chainsaw video
https://youtu.be/ODbtTv3lREw
Well what are you going to be using it for?
Just stick with a proper brand and you can't really go wrong.
Personally I've got a Husky 235.
The saw is solid, but the chain tensioner and lubrication system could be better, plastic parts that get worn out and broken in there.
>>872022
>Well what are you going to be using it for?
for sawing wood. like in the video.

Just the usual stuff
Alright /out/, I have a few questions about Zion. I want to go for 3-4 days, and will probly take my gf with me.
Here are my questions:
1. Is it cold in December? I plan on going sometime between the 11th-17th. Will it be full on snow and low temps? What additional geat would you suggest?
2. I'm thinking of taking West Rim trail to Angel's Landing, and then Emerald Pools. Since I'll have a guest, I'll probly stay in one of the lodges on the scenic trail. Anyone have any experience around these areas?
3. Do I really need water shoes for the Narrows? I have a pair of merrel sandals - would those work?
4. Once again, since I have a guest, I will probably not be able to hike back to my car on West Rim. Is there Uber or something like that to give us a ride back up there?
5. Any other general tips welcome
>>892349
I have decent gear, and will probably carry most of everything.
Here is a a shit list:
Atmos AG 65L
MSR pocket rocket + fuel
1 pot to cook
MSR water filter forgot the name
Nalgenes
z-lite
a stupid compressible sleeping bag that has a zipper that only works when it wants to
REI Half dome 2 tent
good boots
merrel sandals
im good about packing food and meals
meme mora knife that i never use and probly wont take
iodine tabs
lighter
this is all the shit i usually take backpacking when i go for 3-4 nights
what else do you think i need
my gf will be sharing my shit, but she willl be carrying my old 45L pack, and her own sleeping bag and sleeping pad
Narrows probably going to have flood warning in December or too high, but who knows you could get lucky. I used my normal shoes (NB Minimus) with no socks and was fine. I'd do neoprene socks if it was cold. West Rim to Angels Landing is good, so is Emerald Pools. Hard to go wrong. IDK anything about camping in the park I camped in BLM outside the park off Kolob Reservoir Road.
A hunter in Tennessee took down a monstrous and perhaps record-breaking 47-point buck.
Stephen Tucker, 26, shot the deer while muzzleloader hunting in Sumner County, Tenn. The deer’s antlers totaled more than 300 inches in length, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) said.
Dale Grandstaff, a captain with the TWRA measured the animal by using the Boone & Crockett Club requirements for non-typical racks, WWMT.com writes.
The buck earned a “green score” of 313 2/8 inches, but after necessary reductions as declared by Boone & Crockett, it finished with a net score of 308 3/8 inches.
WWMT notes that the state record (from the same county) is 244 3/8 inches. The larger record for free-ranging white-tailed buck harvested by a hunter with a muzzleloader is an animal whose antlers measured 307 5/8 inches, from 2003 in Iowa.
The same report notes that due to a 60-day “drying period,” the antlers could shrink beneath the world record status.
The antlers from Tucker’s deer will be measured in January.
“That is something you just don’t ever expect to measure as a certified scorer,” Grandstaff said, according to WWMT.
If Grandstaff’s measurements are acceptable, the antlers will be measured again in spring 2019 during a Boone & Crockett banquet. Scorers will then decide if the January measurements will hold up, WWMT concludes.
that's pretty crazy
fucking asshole
