Went to local outfitter to check on new 50-60L pack.
>told buy assistant that all Aethers are being put on sale.
>possibly being replaced in the near future.
or
>retired completely in favour of Atmos only.

>suspect it is related to advent of the new AG system and that they are putting it into most packs now.

I'm curious what different types of kits you guys set up or have heard of people setting up.
People make kits for almost anything these days. I'll start

>Bugout bag
>Minuteman pack
>Hiking pack
>Get home back
>Car survival bag
>Hunting pack
>Fishing kit

Those are just examples, I hope you guys get what I'm asking.

I'd strictly separate those meant for emergencies and those meant for normal use. You don't want to come home from a hike having lost some piece of gear, then suddenly finding you need it.
>>
>>888617
I know that they are separate things. I'm just seeing what variety of prepared packs people have laying around. From hiking to killing, fishing to shooting. Etc.

I have a Vaughan carpenter's hatchet. I like it a lot because of the tempered hammer on the back and the fact that it has a narrow concave blade.

BUT it's not heavy, and they aren't great for real chopping. They're good for craft and woodwork (building shelters and relatively light duty bushcraft). I bought an Estwing eventually and that's much, much better at chopping down saplings and splitting up wood.

I still use the Vaughan though for the more light duty jobs or if I need a hatchet/hammer.

Assuming you're in Mearca you should look into a made in USA brand, like Estwing or Vaughan. Just sayin' though.
>>
>>860083
I don't plan on using it for much more than some rough carving, and light bushcraft like you mentioned.
I've got an offer put on it on Ebay, just waiting on a response now

wha kind of wood is it?
>seal the ends with wax and let it dry for a few months
>ideally the bark would still be intakt for that
>on some woods you leave it on anyway
>cut it so the lower end is around 2,5cm diameter
>it should be about 20cm longer than you are tall
>some people get a metal tip (imo that looks bad, but your stick last waaaaaaaay longer)
>after drying it seal it weatherproof, I do everyday the first week, every other second week and once a week the last two

Pic related was improvised while I was already on the trail
>>
Thanks mate! It's already dry, I believe. It's eucaliptus wood. I should waterproof it. It's ok if I use varnish for that? Or should I do use wax only?

if you plan on adding a metal tip, which I really recommend, make sure you add a rubber between wood and metal.

So I live in the Appalachian foot hills.
Right behind my house is this really beautiful place with a lot of interesting things. I have spent the last two days making a hiking trail for me and my girlfriend there. Clearing out thorns, fallen branches, fallen trees, and all kinds of obstructions. I found a wonderful spot to have picnics there.
I am wanting to make a small wooden sign that has a painted on picnic with the words "Picnic Spot" with a heart next to it.
I plan to put this sign here at the spot.
How would I go about making this sign so that the paint wont come off?

Use acrylic paint. If you want to go extra far, use a heavy lacqeur over it to seal the paint and preserve the wood.

/k/ here

Going to mountainous Wyoming. Need a pack. Will have a rifle. Need some way to stow it on whatever pack I buy since mine is shit.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004R7L7YU/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I saw this and felt like my troubles are over. People say it's about a pound heavier than competitors but with removing unnecessary frame like the shelf and webbing I think I can cut some ounces.

Does anyone have experience with this pack, or if you're an internal frame fan, have any suggestions for packs that can stow an AR on the side? Many thanks.

You're better off getting a surplus ilbe pack at that weight and price. stay away from amazon chinkshit in general. You'll get a battle tested pack capable of carrying 100+ pounds plus modular rifle carrying. its way more versatile in general, I've carried an ar with the stock protected in the side pouch, it actually has a sleeve that runs along the side to carry a longgun but unless im bushwhacking I usually just use the compression straps on the side to secure it. Overall extremely comfy, if you're willing to take a few pounds in weight its 100% worth it.

I have never lived anywhere with mountains or good terrain so I feel ya. Colorado is my favorite place to vacation to since you can actually go there and do shit instead of just shopping and sitting on a beach.

What is the most angry and dissatisfied board and why is it /out/?

Literally every single thread just seethes passive aggressive anger.

Arguing over external versus internal frame packs leads to butt hurt and anger over literally nothing.

People expressing rage over fishing.

Even if you believe that ultralight is the way to go, you wish death upon someone who decides they want to carry a tent instead of trying to tarp it up.

Why don't we all just chill out and enjoy nature and the outdoors for what it is man.

Theres no incentive to make this place into a safe haven for socially awkward retards.

The air of anonymity allows us to discuss topics without having to filter our thoughts.

Everyone loves to let their nuts hang low and bully the "I need my safespace" nerds.

Where I live, technically a rain forest, they put down boards through some of the meadows because of all the mud and water. They are pressure treated 2 X 12's and sometimes the whole trail is made of them and can go up to 4 miles. Today I was walking on one and came across this.
