I have a trip tp da hapi isles planned for this summer.
Whats some good /out/gear i should bring in the solomon islands/south pacific. Im planning on doing plenty of sailing with some family from the area.
I want to live in a uninhabited south pa island. I'm looking into american territory islands to crash on because I can bring some guns in that case. I want to establish myself there and contract some planes or boats to come out to resupply me once in a while with food and bullets and other materials. Who wants to do something like this?

Ive been put there before as a semi tourist. Theres lowkey food everywhere.
Learn to fish and how to find fruits you can eat. Biggest thing you would need is water purification, malaria pills, and depending on how much you shoot boolits. Palm leaves can make decent cordage iirc

Mask, fins, snorkel
Board shorts
Sunscreen
Hat
Sandals (coral sand has sharp bits)
pretty much all you need

Hiya /out/!
I want to do a thru-hike of the John Muir Trail next summer with my gf. I have some backpacking experience, but have never done a long distance trail. Ya'll have any tips and tricks for such an endeavor?

I'm doing 32 clicks over hinchinbrook island next month so nothing like as far as yours. Are there places to pick up food along the way? If not you want to be pretty fit, and basically smash out the hike as quickly as possible so you would need to bring minimal food.
I'm assuming you would have fresh water points along the way, but you would obviously need enough water containers to tide between them.
You'll want to be rucking super light on everything unnecessary, obviously an advantage to doing it in the summer, because your pack will obviously be fill AF with food.
Look into meal replacement shake powder to have during the day. will keep you going and weighs little.

The JMT has places to rest and resupply along the way. Towns were you can pick up supplies or places that'll hold packages so you can have stuff shipped. There's also hiker boxes where people leave their extra food for other people to have.
what is a good knife for a beginner. i want ur opinins
Swiss army or spyderco for a pocket knife. mora. or an izula for fixed blade.
Can't go wrong with SAK. I prefer the hunstman model but you should find one that appeals to you. The more features and tools it has the more alluring but cumbersome it is. Keep your choice in tools fairly conservative IMO
BUT MY MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE OF ALL is to ignore the three weeks of ~200 shitposts following this one.

It's about that time of year where the anons up north are in limbo because the water is getting too cold for regular fishing but not cold enough for ice fishing. And I'm just down here waiting for the water to cool off a few more degrees so the bass get moving again.
Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly and trout.

Pepsi what are the average water temps in the ocean for any given time of year (average winter, spring, summer, fall temps) and air temps?
Should I put a plastic on a chatterbait or just run it raw?
>>886356
I normaly run a little trailer but I don't think it will make a huge difference. The action of the lure and skirt itself is plenty. Rawdoggin is always fun ;^)
>>886351
Idk, the Atlantic is real warm around here all year round because of the Gulfstream. Like 80s most of the year but don't quote me on that. Air temps in with winter are mid-high 70s during the day and like mid 60s at night with a handful of cold nights into the 50s. Summer temps are mid-high 80s in the day and mid-high 70s at night.
Is it a feasible idea to put up a mobile home on a lot I buy? If so around how much do you think this would cost?
Not only is it feasible, its highly probable.
I would imagine the cost to be between none and more than none.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Bill
Probably the cost of the lot, the home, and hooking up utilities. Let us know if you have any other financial questions.

I own a 13 acre slice of heaven in the midst of nowhere that I inherited. It appraised at $140K. It's old pastures and 8 acres of trees bordering 30000 acres of federal property. We go camping, hunting, and fishing and love the place so I recently checked into it myself. Aside of the cost of the house the figures were the salesperson pulling numbers out of thin air...while trying to make a sale....so I'm sure they're a bit on the low side.
*(USD)
>House 84000
Not bad, I can do that.
>Foundation (basement) 10000
Well, it does double the size of the house, we are in tornado alley, so ok. Yeah, we can do that.
>Septic 8000
Gotta have it
>Driveway (rock and fabric) 4000
Christ, really? That much?
>Electric to house 2000
>Water to house 3000
>Proper back porch 4000
>Proper front porch 4000
So that $84000 house costs about $130000 at a minimum with the salesman pulling numbers out of his ass without having to purchase the property. No garage, no outbuildings, no concrete parking spot, no sidewalks, no landscaping, no gutters, no grass, no trees, no fences....130K to be one of those people with a modular house plopped into the middle of what used to be a pasture.

I already own +10 fire steels (strikers) now I want buy jet lighters (dont want BIC).
<----
What kind of turbo lighter do use while you are in the woods?
<------
what kind of jet flame lighter can you recommend?
<----
also: post your lighter while you lit something up
Butane lighters are shit for /out/ unless you live in a hot climate.
>>884804
why?
>>885084
When it gets cold, the liquid butane in the lighter has a hard time expanding into a gas. Idk about jet lighters like that, but even Bics have a hard time lighting when they are below freezing so I can't imagine the jets would burn very strong (if at all). You would need to keep the thng in your asscrack in cold weather. Plus a lot of those cheap ones leak and burn fuel really fast so I hope you bring an extra can of butane.
absolute baby here. going to be going to college soon. what are some decent /out/ jobs and what should i go for to get the,?
Like just being outside? I got a Geology degree and I'm doing some Materials Testing and drilling...I'm outside everyday traveling, on salary, and don't even work 30hours a week.

what area are you in?
Park ranger maybe.
Fast-food chain Arby’s will begin testing venison sandwiches in select markets by the end of the month, the company announced Tuesday.
Arby's venison sandwich features a thick-cut venison steak and crispy onions with a berry sauce on a toasted roll, according to the company.
The venison sandwich is "100% deer meat," with premium cut top and bottom round steaks from the hind quarter of the deer, according to Rob Lynch, Arby’s Brand President & Chief Marketing Officer.
Lynch said the company released the sandwich as part of “It’s Meats Season” campaign, which celebrates the start of hunting season.
"Bringing venison to our menu also allows us to continue to set ourselves apart from the competition when it comes to proteins," he said. "You simply can’t find this at other restaurant chains."
The new sandwich will be offered for a limited time at 17 Arby’s restaurants across the country. According to the company, the locations were chosen in heavy deer hunting areas in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Georgia.
Lynch said the company sources free-range farmed deer that feed on fresh grass, and he is confident that " deer hunters are going to love this sandwich."

very interesting, I'd be interested to see if it's any good

venison is great in chili. end thought.
also, it is illegal to harvest deer in the usa for commercial use. so it is probably coming from china. and can you think about how fuckrd up deer farms have to be? deers hate each other. they have to keep them drugged up constantly.
>>883849
The deer in nara seem to get along with each other well enough.
>>883853
female deer only hang out together for the yearly sex. they hate each other. the males stay distant.

Looking for a good USB flashlight , sick of buying batteries and do not want to fuck with recharging stations. Just want to plug it into my cell phone charger and be done.
Whats the best?
I have that exact light, i also got the 18650 batteries and charger cradle with usb charger.
It was worth the $40 for two extra rechargeable 18650's

How lazy are you?
Since the last vehicles thread got a lot of replies, and its now dead, I figured I would make a new one.
Let's see your setup.
Also I'm interested to see if anyone here is into Overlanding, or camping on off road trails for decent lengths of time.
Pic related is mine and a friend 's Jeeps on a day trip this summer.

This is the only pic of my bike that I have, but here in Ontario there's something like 300 km of ATV bush trails from Goering Bay to Timmins Ontario. Basically in Ontario, everything North of Lake Huron/Georgian Bay is just bush.
Anyway, next summer I want to ride the trail and camp along the way. I'd be spending 5 or more hours a day on my bike and I want to try being self sustaining with fishing and foraging. Hunting rules here and carrying weapons on off road vehicles through multiple hunting zones is pretty sketchy here so I doubt I'd bring a rifle.
>>880294
Here are the trails
Convince me that an axe is more useful than a large camp knife
I've always used large knives for wood processing and have never tried an axe
I dont see how the axe is better, but i want to know from you anons.
How?

Its not the matter that i like it better
Its the matter of i want the most optimal tool for outdoors use.

If we have to explain basic concepts like balance and leverage, then you're not here to learn about axes. You're here to declare your obsession with using a less-than-optimum tool for processing firewood.
