Let's hope not.

Don't shoot me? Seriously? I doubt whether or not someone shoots you is based on your backpacks faggoty color...
Also. What was the asking price for these things?
>>899172
$90-110
I've only been /out/istic for a few months now, and I'm anticipating summer already. Redpill me on what to do in the winter please, and don't say skiing.
>>899153
plan some cool trips for the summer
Sledding.
Snowshoeing.
Any input on this bad boy?
Thinking about pulling the trigger.
Using for Missouri winter wear.

Maybe if they are still on promotive
If you want to be a walking advertisement, then go for it.
>>899147
Wow, I really like the design of that.
Are solar chargers a meme? I'm finding that bringing a powerbank barely gets me through 5-7 day trips. I'm just taking my phone for gps/camera and an old iPod nano.
bumping with pics
Somehow, someway, despite eternal vigilance, this shit always makes its oily fucking contacts with my skin. How the fuck is it possible to avoid the most annoying and threatening aspect of /out.
>>898583
Wear pants and a long sleeve shirt.
cross contamination is a big part of it. you might walk through the shit and a few hours later reach down and adjust your laces. in any case you must live in a pretty poison ivy-y area to "always" get a rash. don't touch anything, don't crawl into bed with your boots or hiking pants on, etc.
>>898586
this.
also is it possible to not be allergic to poison ivy or poison oak? I have been foinf /out/ since I was pretty young and have never gotten it
Cycling
Hear me out
When i was younger id go on so many adventures camping and going far away from home and just riding everywhere
Im gonna get a bike and restart this lifestyle
Any bros do this?

Yep, this is what I do anonnynon. It's good fun. Funner'n horsecocks. And it's great way to stay in shape.
Every cyclist I have ever met, in every circumstance... has been a complete faggot.
Just saying.

How does REI and other "outdoor" retailers keep getting away with gouging customers? I think LNT and it's (unintentional?) message of consumerism over self-reliance is partially to blame.
http://sandiegomitch.com/backpacking.html
>>898236
You planning to do that?
>>898236
How do they keep price gouging? Through corporate loyalty programs. You would not believe how many people shop atREI and pay full price because they think it's something greater than just another store.
Also, well yea, LNT requires you to have your own gear. If every visitor to national parks did bushcrafting horseshit, camp areas would be trashed.

Good luck with the new MYOG thread; my last one went ok but the next iteration will be on /diy/. How much sewing XP you got, Opie? I ask because backpack is a pretty daunting task if you're new at sticking fabric together with thread.
>be me, a yuropoor
>want to move to the US next year
>like outdoor but not really possible where I live
>glad fully want to do actual outdoor shit when I'll be in the US
I know that to get in outdoor the first few times you need to go with someone more experienced that has a good gear
>I don't know any American that would take me with him in nature
What do ? Is there some community or forum where you can ask to go on a hike with someone or pay for it ?

nooo you don't

I was walking with my doggo when I stumbled across this sign. Don't really know what does it mean, turned back just in case it meant private property (private=magán in hungarian, that could've been what the "M" meant) didn't want them to shoot me and my doggo.
>>898163
There is a coyote in the background of your pic bro, you should kill it next time you see it.
>>898232
If that's his unleashed dog I'm getting out the pupper spray!
>>898163
If they wanted people to know that is private property they would have wrote it on a sign. That M serves other purpose.
quick /out/!, which is better: the ridgerest SOLite or the therma rest Z-lite>
i like the rectangular shape of the ridgerest but the SOLite is cheaper.
for those of you who have the SOLite, when rolling it, how well does it stay rolled.
for those of you who have the zlite, how/where do you tie it on your pack.
im assuming they both do well at keeping someone comfy/warm. thanks guys
I have both pads. My findings
Z-lite (rectangle one)
>folds up easy and lays dead flat
>odd shape to store
>can rig it as backpack frame or back cushion
>feels more comfortable/cushy
SOlite (round one)
>rolls nice and tight with strap
>doesn't always want to lay flat (end curls)
>warmer?
>firmer, not as cushy
I sleep on my stomach so I prefer the cushier Z. But they're both great pads, I wish they had better names. Their price/weight ratio is great, and they're pretty bombproof. I prefer storing them on pack like pic related versus the horizontal way. Either way works, I just prefer the slimmer silhouette. It helps to get soft ground for a campsite, they're not great on super hard dirt or pavement.
I have the SOlite. Rolling up is the worst feature of it, in my hammock it's a pain to keep under me but once I've got it there it keeps me warm. Also it ties on fine but it's a bit on the bulkier side compared to square pads.
>>898878
Try sticking it inside your sleeping bag. Stays put there, it is how i use mine in my hammock.
>first solo multiday camp/hike by myself Wednesday
>kinda nervous, kinda excited
Any last tips or things to scare me, bros?
Have fun.

Where you going?

Shawnee National Forest
/K/ommando here from middle Tennessee, found this spiky fuck growing in the yard. What is it, and more importantly, can I eat it?
>>897956
>Tennessee
>grandma couch
>coffee table
>shit beer
>jeans and boots
Sounds about right. God bless America
>>897956
that there looks like a Jimson weed aka Devil's snare aka datura stramonium and it's poisonous as African dick, and also generally unpleasant.
>>897958
>ignoring the perfectly humble question and just being a dick instead
Sounds about right. God bless 4chan.
Why even wear camo when youre wearing a big fuck off orange vest?
camo's for LARPers and manchildren, blaze orange is for adults with a job to do.
Why wear very green woodland camo in an all white snow environment?
>>897846
So you don't get shot, deer see bright orange as brown or something other dull color.
been using boots from the swedish military til now, a 1 layer leather boot but they went missing recently
now i need to buy me a new pair of boots for the first time and what should i think about? from what i hear and read online, gore tex and such are a big no-no though 90 % of available boots are gtx.
and the rest are twice the price.
pic is somewhat relevant
watched "Wild" some weeks ago, her boots are what i imagined boots purposed for hiking and walking would look like

If you're Swedish, check out Lundhags..
