Does anyone have experience with the kelly kettle? Whats the best stove/cooking gear while camping
>>897697
I have a 1.7 litre Kelly Kettle - I generally just use it for boiling water which it does extremely well.
Feeding sticks in the top makes it easy and efficient to use.
I've never cooked on it but I believe there are attachments that sit on top but I can't imagine it being all that good because you'd have to keep taking them off to fuel the fire....? Maybe someone else has more experience than me on this.
I keep it simple and use the Toaks titanium stove / cookware set. Current setup is the twig stove, one 750 mL pot, and a 350 mL cup. Designed to all nestle together for convenience.

Is stability not too much of an issue?
My preference is usually my MSR Whisper light. Can be used just about anywhere and a litre of fuel (I tend to use Aspen 4) lasts me around 6 days
Do you glass while you're /out/? What have you seen? What's bino are you looking through?
I usually just use my binos to look at the sky when im far /out/

Italian here
I use them to look at the sun to see sunspots and track their movement
What could go wrong?
>>897314
I scan for elks and deers and shit like that.
Zeiss Classics are my mains, though I keep a pair of Zen Ray ED3s in my truck.

Geocaching and I'm not talking about those faggy ones some family sticks under a park bench.
I want a job that leaves me alone in the wilderness for periods of time. Preferably not LE. I like the idea of being a fire lookout but I want more options. I just want to be alone for a while. Any other good options for me?
I work in pest management. You're outside most of the time. I run my own business and typically only deal with farmers and the forest service taking care of bees or some other pest at public shelters, vistas, etc..
Not that hard to get into. Get certified and some basic equipment. I make ~$35K and don't even work half the year. Still live with my parents. I'm 23 and got into it when I was 20. If I took it seriously as a full time job, I could triple my income.
>>897130
What's does your average work week look like?
>>897132
If I actually do work a week.
90% of my customers I have a history with. Never really aim to grow but I could and always have calls.
>customer calls
>give vague description of what he needs
>it's usually just maintenance rather than dealing with infestations
>set up a time for an appointment
>load Dad's truck with chemicals and tools and make sure everything is secure
>get to customer
>do job
>individual customers like farmers typically pay in cash or credit card up front
>businesses usually ask for invoice
>go back home
>jack off
>go back to playing video games
Most of my business is just routine maintenance. Spraying pesticides to keep bees, ants, etc. away. Most "infestations" I do are mice, bees, ants, or cockroaches. I don't really deal with termite shit.
It doesn't take much to get certified. Get a job in pest control. You'll know how the business works within a few months then can start your own.
How do you deal with loneliness during your camping? I make threads on a russian imageboard with posting what I am doing. But I think I need to stop doing that, cause people don't like attention whores like me or just getting boring of that.

How do you feel about the sidewinder?
Looking for a new flashlight that has white, red and green lights.
>>896954
I have the small version of that and it works perfectly fine. I only use it when clipped onto a pack though (works well).
For pocket carry I like strong small 90 degree light like a zebralight.
>>896976
Thanks.
I do a lot of astronomy and work outside at night often. Want something I can clip to things or just stand up on the ground etc.
We used them in the military, good aa flashlight.
Anyone here ever been camping/hiking in Patagonia?
Pic related
Just make sure to wear camera filters on your eyes , so you're not disappointed.
Yes, on my way to Mordor.
no, but not only I`d love to, I`ll probably will sometime in the future, though in the region of Bariloche.
Though some trails are closed during winter time?
So I was looking for some /out/ related TV shows and I stumbled upon the island and I was wondering, is it any good?
The premise is interesting, how do the men and women fare comparatively?
Alone is the only one I know of that isn't scripted.
It was interesting for the first one or two series but the people they get aren't the /out/ kind so it gets a little boring watching them constantly mess up.
I quite like river monsters and some of ed stafford's stuff like 'naked and marooned'
>>896327
Its fun but the women literally almost die in season 2 and the producers really step in to save them so its only worth watching the guys episodes
in season three they mix boys and girls and the girls are still useless and the guys all almost die because they give all their food to the women
I want to be a wilderness search and rescue officer. I figure I should ask here for information. How do I go about becoming one? Can I do it as a regular job, or is it volunteer only? What kind of training is involved?
Typically years of police/military experience and a college degree to become a Forest Ranger or anything related. I doubt there's a paid position for search and rescue specifically. Mostly dealt with by Rangers and police officers.
Well I've got the military part down. No degree though.
>>896231
Most of it is volunteer, but if you to be a pro:
Git gud with orienteering
Take classes like Wilderness First Responder, Avalanche safety, swift water rescue, ropes rescue., etc.
Be prepared to drop big bucks on expensive safety gear.
I work on a freight dock that is open-to-air, and Winter here can get down to about -25F at extremes.
I've got great cold gear, including pic related Baffin Impacts. But with generic wool socks... my toes still get chilled after an hour or 2 of sitting on a forklift.
I've been reading that Wigwam and Carhartt socks seem to do the trick.
What would you suggest /out/?
>>895932
are you drying you boots properly every day and do you step into them when they are warm, room temp or cold?
>>895932
>>896003
If it's a moisture (buildup) problem, try vapor barrier socks.
You might also have a problem of insufficient space in the boots or low blood flow while sitting. Lower blood flow in the feet->lower warmth input (not really generation because you don't move your feet much I take it) ->cold feet.
don't mind me. just enjoying the last day of texas summer in a free national forest campground.
how you yankees fairing?
>>895639
Lived in Texas for sixteen yrs (Spring Branch) fuck that shit state, so happy I moved from there.
>>895639
Eh, it just snowed for the first time here in Utah, all the resorts have had to push back their opening dates. Looks like it's gonna be a low snowpack year.
Don't matter to me, though. I've got a solid lead on a job at a hot spring resort in Alaska for the winter so I'll probably head north and make some dosh while watch the northern lights.
'Bama here, are you guys in this shitty drought also? Complete no burn order over the entire state here.
Recommend me some hot-weather pants, made mostly out of natural fabrics. No camo patterns
I mean, otherwise i would take these british mtp pants, should be something like 70% cotton. I already have pants with technical/non-natural fabrics and i figured i'd try next summer which one i like more. But, what should i get?
http://store.tripleaughtdesign.com/Force-10-AC-Cargo-Pant
As of the non-natural fabric choice i'm thinking of these. Anyone have experience with these?
>>895582
They're pretty lightweight, the fabric is kinda thin but it's still pretty rugged. The water repellent is shit, but they dry out really fast so it's not that big of a deal.
I own a bunch of TAD pants and those are my favorite.
>>895606
How are they during summer? In direct and hot sunlight, do they start to stick to skin and get sweaty or do they breath well?
What does /out/ use for GPS-ing? I want to get a basic foretrex but they are pricey as fuck for what they do($200 for a 7 year old blk and wt no map GPS without glonass?) so i was hoping you guys would have recommendations for ways to turn a shitty $50 burner android phone into something that should be better than the foretrex.

OruxMaps for walking/cycling

There may be better out there but that's what I use. Both are free and use free maps.
Any similar recommendations of GayOS?

Eurofag here.
I use MyTrails, that I bought the pro version but isn't necessary.
You can link it to any paid account you have on any map maker around the world. You can use free maps too. You can either pre-download it or use direct online maps. You can also download a map, and if you need to "get out' of the downloaded map for a few kilometers, it'll download some free map just so you know where you're heading.
Settings are a bit fuzzy, but if you're not into it, just leave as-is Highly recomanded.

/k/ommandos here, looking to get into more outdoors related things.
I just got a pair of Oakley Light Assault 2 boots, and I would like to get some space age magic cushioned boot socks to go with them.
Any recommendations? I live in the Mojave desert if that matters.
