Can anyone recommend soft plastics for saltwater Carolina rigging? Gulp sandsworms are great for dinks but I want to experiment.

I'm by Fort Worth (north Texas). In the summer it gets hot as balls (like a bunch of 105+ days with a heat index of 115), but it's pretty dry thankfully. The water still gets pretty warm. Cause even at night the temps are still in the 80s.

In the winter it gets colder than down south, but last year it was 75 degrees on Christmas Eve so it can be strange. At least I can fish all year round for the most part.

>>891487
If you got a boat you'd be able to fish all them cool simmin lures all year...

I don't even think they would hit the big baits if I were in the middle of the lake. They are too slow and lazy and small baits can get the job done better.
>>
>>891514
Oh yeah I wouldn't throw oversized swim baits in the middle of summer, but if you could get to the suspended bass in the middle of the lake you could use all sorts of shit.

Have you tied any in tan with pink and Orange accents in the body? I bet that would be a good colour combo
Maybe even with a little gold flashabou

You're probably right about the way it swims. I'll test it out in my aquarium and see how it moves. I haven't tried other colors yet since the chartreuse was what I had lying around. Hopefully I can find the time to hit up my local store this weekend.

Probably just one of those dead atmospheric pressure times. Sometimes they are biting like crazy when you wouldn't expect it and other times they won't touch shit when they should be feeding. It isn't an exact science.

Use 4lb or 6lb test fluorocarbon.

Big ones got that way for a reason, they'll be the ones to produce "smarter" offspring that will eventually avoid fishing hooks all together.
>>
>>891985
Its not even that. Big pike like that are very territorial. You have to fish very deep, big water (not easy) and cross your fingers that you are in the right spot and that a giant could be hanging out there.

Thats about the only thing you can do for the big ones. Even if you get lucky enough to have a pike see your lure the odds of it striking are less than 50%. The bigg'ns are hard af to catch. Plus just sitting there watching your rod in the holder for hours isnt very fun. I prefer to just go shallower and throw spoons and swim baits for smaller ones (pic related from last April)

I gotta learn how to use that 6 weight redington rod first. Maybe next year Ill get one for pike. You think a 10 weight would be good? would I be able to catch salmon with that you think? how should i be targetting bass and pike now that the temperature is starting to cool off?
>>
>>892036
A 10 weight Will be perfectly fine for salmon
An 8 weight is more popular for salmon but you'll be fine with a 10 weight for salmon and you'll have an easier time throwing the big streamers for pike with a 10 weight
>>
>>892122
>>892036

I'd say go for an 8 weight moderate fast personally you can still cast big flies with that

Redfin. Murray Cod are outta season.

It's apparently going to storm soon, but should clear up before morning. That, and with the river still flooded around 4m's I'm thinking I won't have any luck.

At least it'll be a nice walk, seeing how messed up the river bank and surrounding area is after such a massive flood.

Gonna try a spinner bait. Apparently they don't get snagged up too easily and should help with the murky water.

Nope. Was fun tho. River peaked around 10m. currently around 4m or so. It's strange out there. Hasn't changed anything too much.

Great day until I got back to the ute and realised my car keys were gone. 4km walk back up the river to where i went swimmng for a lue and there they were. Luckily.
>>
>>892316
Should add. It *might* not be my fault. There's been a lot of sightings of dead fish everywhere. Black water is killing em off according to the local rag.
>>
>>892316
>>892318
You don't have any lakes? You realy gotta find the right spot in rivers to get on the fish. I always found lakes easier to judge. The canals are just a bitch because they are so uniform and no real features aside from some bridges and where smaller canals feed into the larger ones.
>>
>>892325
Bout an hour and a half from a nice lake. Hoping to get a kayak or tinnie before heading to lake Mulwala.

I'm enjoying the fishing, well casting anyway. Went to a heavy spinner today. Learned to cast that which is handy. Starting to consistently be able to drop a lure within 2feet of a structure, usually closer, but still lacking real distance.

But if it's a bad cast, it's a horribly bad cast. Finding the line slips through my fingers before i'm good to release it. BUt that's becoming less of an issue.

And Dog enjoyed it. First time out the river for her off leash. Stayed within 50 yards and never paid attention to the lure when she was near.

I'll stick with it. Even without so much as a bite, it's a nice walk up the river.
>>
>>892343
>Finding the line slips through my fingers before i'm good to release it

This still happens to me with heavier lures or when I haven't been using a spinning reel for awhile.

I still have the couple damn rods where I get the line caught on the hook keepers while casting.

But yeah those 3/4oz+ spinners can be a bitch on spinning gear because of that. I like throwing those on memecasters but I find myself tossing smaller spinners like the Pond Magics more than huge ones. Also that chart and black Pond Magic is probably my favorite spinner.
>>
>>892201
The only reason to go for a 10 over an 8 is the line weighs more and can drag a larger heavier fly at the cost of landing harder on the water. If you get a 9 weight you can sorta split the difference but I don't like drifting around line weights. I think the evens are best, and can all push up or down a weight depending on What you need

Honestly 85% of the time you'll be fne with an 8. The other
13% you'll have a heavy fly and want a little more line and that last 2% you'll have a fish make you wish you had more back bone
An 8 Will handle carp, salmon, and pike, along with heavy crawdad patterns for smallies

is using 6lb momo leader on 20lb braid retarded?

my leader keeps snapping when i cast. should i just be re tying more often?
>>
>>892368
If it's breaking at the knot it could be that you need to get better at tying. If the line is snapping I would bet your cast aren't smooth, or you're using way too heavy of a weight.

And it's not really retarded, just kind of defeats the purpose of having 20# braid.

>>
>>892366
Definitely get a good large arbor reel, and I'd reckon a moderate fast or fast action Will be good for pike (more line speed throw the bigger fly better at the cost of a delecate landing) but if you're willing to sacrifice distance a moderate Will give a better roll cast and land more gently (important for carp) as well as let you use lighter tippets and give more feed back during the cast

You have to use them in very specific conditions. Normally in the spring, dusk or dawn, calm water, and when you can see the bass chasing baitfish on the surface.

Frogs can get bass in weed beds a little later into the summer too. They are so fun to fish with when the bass are hitting them.

I never fished with shiners before- when you buy them at a bait shop how do you get them?

yeah, gotta either have your own bucket or get one from them. Some shops will have cheap little Styrofoam buckets they will give you if you dont want to buy a nicer one you can keep using. The shiners usually come by the scoop. I usually get one scoop if im by myself and two if im with someone.

Just buy the styrofoam buckets for like $3. They will help keep the water cold and they will last a little longer.

Just remember shiners are normally kinda big so it depends what you are going for. Even small shiners can be like 3"-4", then there are fatheads and some other types that bait shops will have.

There are some goofy rigs on this pic but if I'm running under a bobber I will just hook them through the back. For river rigs and stuff, through the lip.

Checked

Have you ever caught a snakehead?

When you get one, it is incredibly easy to tell just by looking at the head. It is unmistakeable when you see one. Plus their eyes aren't always red. When in doubt, look at the anal fin.

And if you were talking about the eyespot on the tail, that is actually why people confuse the fish because bowfin can have them. Like I said, if you can't immediately tell from the head (which should be obvious) the anal fin will give it away. On snakeheads, it runs the whole length of the tail and is much shorter on bowfin.

Pic related is a bowfin.

That chartruese color seems to work when nothing else does. I have good luck with dark blacks and blues like Junebug.

For the swimbaits you could Texas rig them or get some weighted swimbait hooks like you see in the pic here. Otherwise you can just do a jighead but it won't be weedless. Weighted swimbait hooks are the best way to go since most are designed to work with those. And make sure you get the paddle tails. If you get Zooms, you want the Swimmin super flukes, the regular super flukes have that split tail and are better for drop shots or running on the bottom or as a trailer.

You should meet up to go check out this one in Sunrise in a little bit.

I'm not a big fan of fishing the canals. At least not the main ones. I have been finding some big sneks in smaller canals around Pompano and Coconut Creek, like along Copans Rd behind the businesses and stuff.

I got that big snek and nice lil peacock the other day off Copans and I think Banks Rd. Small canal runs into a little lake by some businesses back there north of Copans, it was a decent spot but I wouldn't reccommend going there on a weekday because of the businesses.

Anyone have any good resources on mat punching? There's a concrete pier near my brother's house that has tons of huge rockfish right off of it because the whole bottom is structure (boulders). The problem is that the kelp beds are very thick and for every fish I brought in i broke off 5+ rigs. Lost probably 25$ in jigs, plastics, hooks, and weights. Had fun though. A local told me to rig up heavier weight and punch the mats. Can I rig cut bait to be weedless or do I need to use plastics?

>>
>>892880
Decent.

Has it been in saltwater or just fresh?

We used to test motors by running them in a clean trashcan full of water. This can be done to flush saltwater out if you need to store it for a long time.

Make sure the fuel tank lines are good and if it has a drain plug make sure to plug it everytime before you head out.

And read up on any boating laws for your area.
>>
>>892883
Just fresh water. He was gunna start it with those flusher things you hook to the hose but he couldn't find them. I've been using a little 14' aluminum boat with a 9.5 hp on the back so I'm used to trailering and launching and all that so I should be good.

I'm not sure. I've fished around kelp and trying to fish through the mat sounds like a nightmare. I would definitely use plastics over cut bait. Other than that I don't know what else you can change. What kind of line are you using?
>>
>>892928
I went out with 20lb braid and a medium rod if I went back I think 40lb braid and a Med-heavy rod would be ideal. It'd let me throw a 3oz triangle sinker with a dropper rig and a weedless rigged plastic

no it's like spending $12 usd on a tiny lure and 4 inch rapalas cost around $6-8.

Was out at round valley today.

Hooked up with a trout right near the surface- bit a shiner right at the shallows.

The spot was good, a lil pool that got a bit deep outside of the main lake.
I'm glad I learned how to spot a place with potential fish but I need work on hook ups obviously.

2nd bite I had took a spinner, yet again it escapes my hook. Swam towards me I think and got slack in the line.

The two fish both felt like I "had them" any tips on better hook setting?

conservation therapy is possible. Shocking gay randomly won't work, but scientists can definitely find a way to turn off same sex attraction if they look hard enough. After all, sexual attraction is just chemical and electrical impulse. The subject is probably too taboo though so there aren't any scientists looking into it.

It's interesting that the same group that advocates for using chemicals / surgery to convert trans to opposite sex and create biological abomination also opposes conservation therapy for people who wishes to change their sexual orientation through science.
>>
Florida redfish kayak anon AGAIN.

Seriously guys, I need help. I keep finding schools of 40+ inch redish. I've gotten ONE of them to bite and get hooked once on my first trip - how the fuck are you supposed to make these assholes take bait? I throw dozens of plastics at them and even tried some fresh mullet which they were feeding on and still couldn't make them take it. What the fuck am I doing wrong? I need to catch them so I can post validation pics here :^(
>>
>>893317
i think that the holy grail for trans people would be some kind of procedure/medication that makes them cis again. That's what pretty much every trans person has ever told me they would have preferred when they realized that they were the way they were. I bet it would hold true for many homosexuals, as well.

You don't just assign scientists to "homo conversion research" like it's a fucking upgrade in starcraft. Nobody would even have any idea where to begin with that sort of thing, our knowledge of the brain is still basically in the dark ages in that regard.
>>
>>893341
Use a net. Keep the biggest one?? You might need two kayaks and a buddy.

If they are for eating then I say using a net is best method.
>>
>>893347
I'm just saying that if there is a mean to, the process to find it would be very difficult since science is heavily political. If we have states currently considering making conversion therapy illegal, we will not have any research done on it or any research done on it will be heavily discredit. Overwhelming majority of money in scientific research is from the government. There is no way around it.

One interesting thing about medical treatment is that many medical treatments are discovered and utilized before scientists fully understand how the treatment work. Sometimes it hurt people, but sometimes, it create treatments/medicine that save countless of lives. Nobody knows how vaccine works or even the existence of virus when vaccine was first discovered. Nobody knows how penicillin affects bacteria on cellular level when it was discovered. Right now, very little is known about cancer, but there are shit load of treatments being pushed to cancer patients anyway.
>>
>>893367
I can see what you're saying, but I would still maintain that the "political" end of that equation is still a long ways from being relevant. It is still going to be a very long time before our understanding of the brain advances to the point where we can begin having some idea of how to reliably manipulate people's sexual orientations/gender identities (let alone safely), and anything being experimented with right now or in the near future is little more than blind flailings into the dark, motivated more by a sense of righteous vengeance than legitimate scientific inquiry.

Realistically, the biggest problem is getting funding for that stuff. The amount of money a "real" scientist would spend getting actual answers about fish, vs the benefit it would provide to people funding, vs the benefit it would actually give fishermen is just not something that bodes well for super detailed fish research to happen.

There's a lake I like fishing near my hometown that has pickerel I usually get in the shallows at the edge of lily pad beds on spoons and spinners. The deepest part of the lake is somewhere between 20-30 feet deep. Do pickerel ever get really big like pike and hang out down there? I'm going to try to visit in the spring and do some fishing with my buddy.

Pence is insurance to make sure some idiot doesn't try to assassinate Trump, because Pence is what you're afraid of and on top of that it was to appease the GOP and get some support from them.

>>893582
>and right now the only real cure is transition.
No it's not you idiot. They have an insanely high rate of suicide and that joke of a surgery does nothing to fix it. Those people need help, not reassurance that their disorder is perfectly ok and people and doctors playing into their delusion.

>>893640
>>893641
If you have fishing partners who are as patient as you and know what you're doing, it's great. If they can only sit still for an hour, it's not great.

>>893644
Couldn't tell you man. I do neuroscience and biomedical type stuff and haven't even looked into marine biology since I was a kid. Honestly as far as science goes, I usually just laugh at ecologist types and what they try to pass off as science. If I have the resources that a real lab has and could do research on fish for fishing, I'd start running neuro imaging on them when they're presented with real food, map the pathways and neurotransmitters involved in the "go fucking eat it" response, and then present them with different baits and lures and whatnot to see what elicits a response in the same pathways, and then try it across several species at different water temps, times in breeding cycles and bodies of water.

As for the Japs, if those guys want to fund it, I'm all in.
>>
>>893655
I agree about Pence just being assurance that the GOP will be able to work with Trump.

And the patient fishin buddy, that was one good thing about Miami anon. We started fishing in the middle of the fuckin summer when it was real slow for the bass, especially bigger ones. But she didn't even give a shit that they weren't biting much. I need to get her back out since the water is cooling off a bit. Dec-Feb is great for bass around here.

And I'm guessing a lot of the tackle companies get some R&D done, or at least take advice from the pros they sponsor but might be hesitant to release some of the information. There has to be a reason I'm paying $11 for a little piece of plastic with some hooks, right?
>>
>>893659
>There has to be a reason I'm paying $11 for a little piece of plastic with some hooks, right?
I mean, I don't want to crush your spirits or anything, but honestly I think it's all just field testing and "proprietary methods" which means "complete bullshit." If they could actually be super scientific with it, then the tech they used to test this shit would be used for other stuff. Sadly, that tech doesn't exist right now.

As for fishing buddies, I've got a few that can hang pretty well, but honestly the best are my cousin's kids. They're 11 and 9, and they'll fish for 5 or 6 hours and then complain when I tell them I have to take them home. As long as I load up some snacks and a couple bottles of water, they're great, and they're usually well behaved. Bathroom isn't even an issue, these little fuckers will shit in the woods and then snapchat pictures of it to their friends because they think it's hilarious. They're actually pretty serious about fishing, too. Memecasters and lures, almost no live bait because they prefer the challenge. Occasionally they'll lose some of my lures or get stuck because they were fucking around, but most of the time they just sit and fish.

What's the difference between casting out and leaving your rod in a holder vs keeping it in your hands and reeling it in slowly + with some action?

When to do which?

I'm guessing cast and wait for live bait that's rigged such that the bait is at the level you want it at.

And cast and retrieve for lures?

I'm technically middle eastern but I have white skin and blue eyes (I could probably count the number of non-muslim non-arab middle easterns left alive on my fingers on toes but I'm one of them). Do you know what it's like to have someone go on and on about evil racist white people and oppressed minorities, and then to follow up with "My parents are immigrants from the middle east and my family gets killed on the regular over there. You don't know what actual oppression is," ?

I swear people's heads explode on the inside and they just melt down when they realize none of their cries of bigotry or white guilt work.

Would be fun to get an 18"+ one soon because when they get to that size they just bulk up instead of getting longer. I still need to explore more spots with good peacocks since most of the places real close to my house don't have em.

Pic related was one that is just on the verge of starting to get fat and change color patterns. Won't get much longer but will get fatter for sure.

But I also just recently started fishing spots with peacocks and actually targeting them so we'll see how the winter goes. 90% of the time I'm fishing, there are no peacocks in the water. Well the illness is gender dysphoria, not being comfortable with your current gender. Often times it can be cured by therapy alone, transition can also lead to cured, but there are plenty that never get cured. But how many are comfortable in their new skin then are driven to suicide by religious nutjobs calling them abominations, people denying them their new gender identity, being disowned by their family etc. If someone told their parents they were depressed and were disowned over it would it be any wonder that they blew their brains out? If that depressed person was routinely insulted for doing what makes them more comfortable why would anyone be surprised by suicide? Because depression and gender dysphoria often go hand in hand. It's the depression that kills them; not gender dysphoria

It's shitty in west coast too, but this year has been warm so there are still stuffs around in november but thing will be slow until end of febuary when it's getting warmer again. There used to be surf perch fishing in winter, but they has been AWOL for the last 2 years from socal surf since it's a bit too warm for them lately. From march to october, that's where best fishing is. Summer is particularly productive with grunion run + anchovies run + sand crab resurface and you get halibuts, croakers, corbina coming in as well as the occassional white sea bass.

spring, summer, and early fall is where the best saltwater fishing at

Well I definitely won't eat the fish raw. Those saltwater worms die pretty easily in the cooking process and all sources I read point to that. They are pretty much in almost every fishes apparently but are more visible in jacksmelt's transparent meat. I avoid eating croakers though because they are really high on the health advisories list and chemical contaminants can't be removed in cooking process.

I don't keep fishes that often though. Nice perches, I haven't gotten any since water is too warm in socal. I've caught plenty of halibut and even one legal one this year but 0 perch from the surf

I might hit the jetties in winter and see what I get then or I can just stick to freshwater during winter

It bloody well does. Let's assume an Mtf trans person, MRI scans have shown that their brain isn't wired like a man's; from the core they're wired like a woman. But not all of them. Many children and adolescents grow out of gender dysphoria, but as she increases its more and more likely that they can't be turned cis, and for those indivituals many claim that transition helps a lot; the new hormones help level them off, and even long term they often agree that overall they are happier (actual statements from trans people) The dangerous mental illness is clinical depression, which honestly is very common in those with gender dysphoria. And the depression is often from a feeling of lack of acceptance for their new gender identity

>Do you know what the phrase "singled them out" means?
Look at the north carolina laws
If you were born a man but are now a woman you have to use the men's room legally (a beautiful trans woman was jailed over this) and it points them out and singled them out for hate. They just want to be a woman and keep their heads down 90%+ of the time and if they could just pre, and if people could accept that they're women (assuming you're not romantic with them) they would be a lot better off
They will probaly stull need therapy and even possibly medication to continue life happily.
>>893937
It is important to talk to them and let them know that it is very common for adolescents to be cured of gender dysphoeia without transition, and if that doesn't work, it's really the child's life. But it is important to talk them that almost all the procedures can be reversed to an extent but they can't be reversed entirely and once the sex change is done (adding Owen or removing) that's it, no turning back
I know people who were cured of gender dysphoria with therapy and ones who had to transition to find happiness, but it is important to try to find happiness in your birth gender but transition is a valid treatment, though possibly a bit extreme

I don't kill fish I plan on keeping... just either keep them on a stringer until you leave or throw them in an icechest. They die within 5 minutes or so on ice.

They are boycotting Pepsi co. Not just the drink
>>
>>894390
That's pretty fucking cruel... You honestly believe that it's the ice that kills them and not the fact that you pulled them out of the water? Just pick up a stone hit them right between the eyes and you're sparing them 5 minutes of slowly dying...
>>

It's a fish, dood. They are unconcious within minutes... it doesn't hurt them.

I don't want to get fish blood all over myself and my cooler when I go out. Not my fault I'm not a psycho who takes pleasure in beating the shit out of an animal while it's alive.

>>894418

>look like a balding guy in a dress
And that's their right
But she passed but some woman in the bathroom caught her with a Wang and called the cops (if I remember right)
>>894228
>implying I care

Exactly as i would have imagined you looking

Exactly how I imagine tripfags

all trashy, glossy-eyed faggots who look like they lack all self awareness
