Can we have a line confidence thread?
I'm very beginner and have been reading into Peter Han. If i'm understanding this correctly, I should just draw straight and arched lines all day?
Not all day, but if you're really having trouble with your line quality it'll definitely help to get some exercises in before you start drawing.
not all day, just a little bit everyday. You aren't in fucking drawing prison.
You do that anyways when drawing things. Pick challenging subjects (architecture, cars), be bold and use less lines (longer ones) to describe a shape.
Has anyone here had experience doing artist alley?
I was able to get a table at NYCC this year and I know what kind of art stuff to bring but I have no idea what kind of stuff to set up and how to haul everything over there.
The con is 4 days long, from Thurs-Sun and setup in Wednesday the day before. Driving back and forth to Manhattan is out of the question, but hauling all this shit on a bus or subway may be impossible. I may end up getting a hotel room for the convenience, even though I live in Staten Island which is over an hour bus ride away, but I still have no idea how to transport everything like art supplies, prints, metal displays to hang shit up, etc.
What do you guys do? I would bring my car if there was a place to park nearby but it's impossible in nyc
>>2611618
If I were you I would get a hotel room and haul the stuff there first. Don't hotels usually have their own parking places?
>>2611618
There's literally a ton of parking garages near the javits.
Can anyone tell me who the painter is? Can't really make it out..
Also, anyone know what it might be worth? http://imgur.com/gallery/uRujm
>>2610110
Post a pic of the darn painting too! But just so you are prepared, chances are that this individual is just an average unknown kitch painter (in which there are thousands upon thousands) and the painting is only worth next to nothing.
>>2610110
Wow, an original Hitler! Nice find, OP.
Process / tutorial thread, 'cause I couldn't find one and I can't find a process I'm happy with.

Do you have tips for digital coloring/inking?
Specificially coloring. How do I make my coloring faster with the paint tool?
>>2609399
>le ambien occlusion meme
How does this person get lines like those? I hardly looks like they use line weight
So jealous
>>2598995
experiment and see what suits you , it's not a tutorial for literally everything.
Is anybody else able to imagine exactly what they want to draw, but unable to put it to paper? Is there not a way to project the image in your mind onto the paper, and just trace it?
>>2611214
You could simplify your shit into basic shapes.
Then you start from those and make something similar to what you have in mind.
>>2611214
You will never be able to put the things on paper, like how you imagined it.
You will always imagine it much better.
The only thing you can do, is getting as near as possible to your idea.
But how near you get, is a question of how good you are at drawing.
>>2611776
>You will always imagine it much better.
Yep.
I still try to visualize as much as possible before I even start to draw but it's better to stick to general simple forms first. A mannequin instead of a full illustration with details for example.
I just did this, and I hate it, please help me /ic/ what is wrong with the lineart? or is everything wrong?
What's wrong is you made your own thread. It's competent, now post it in the stylization thread instead of making your own to fish for complements.
>>2609691
Not gonna make it.
>>2609691
It's fundamentally wrong in many ways really. There's no where to actually start from. But it doesn't look ugly and your line-art is pretty neat so there's that.
Is it possible to get worse at your art over time? I feel like i'm slowly unlearning how to animate. I do it every day and it seems like I get shittier with each passing day.
>>2606444
so you're animating everyday and getting worse?
>>2606465
Thats what it feels like, yeah. I'm 3 months into an animator position at a game studio and im struggling, it seems like im losing my abilities the harder I try.

take a day off and go to a zoo with ur gf or something
This is going to eventually be a full painting (I hope), but in order to do that I need some good critiques before I do anything. This is a sincerely rough, rough, rough sketch as an idea. I'm going to use straight lines for the background and copy the window, etc. But until then I need help on the composition or anything else that can be assisted here. Thank you.
It's been forever and a day since I last used /ic/, ehe... :T
hi mew :D
i'm not sure what to point out since i think it will look completely different once you fill the colours in and i dont know a lot about composition.
I guess you could try making the ears flop back like the cape does, and mb generally making the figure follow a bit more exaggerated "action line"? or something, im not sure.
also what the hell did i see on the main "board" while looking for this post. what is this place
>>2611639
You would have better answer by posting in one of the permanent Threads (beginners or draw threads).
Anyway, what's up with the crown, how can it fall like that when they are moving, Imagine that you're running, would your baseball-cap fall by jumping ahead of you or fall behind you?
> Also would make the cape fly behind to suggest that this thing is hastily going on, but that may just be me.
>>2611657
I'm worried about putting the ears back with the cape because then it might (due to physics) cover the chain the connects the cap, which I don't quite want to do because I definitely want to show that the cape is flying off....
I could try? And pull the cape back? Maybe. I don't know? Hm. Also what do you mean by "action line"?
Critique my shitshow fellas

Hey, how do you guys feel about this video. Do you think this is a valid tip? i'm coming from a background of only traditional drawing so i thought some digital painting tutorials would do me some good.
Looks like an awesome way to get RSI real fast.
I agree 100% that you should use the rocker switch. It is incredibly useful. How you map the buttons is up to you, but I use one as Right Mouse Button to quickly switch brushes and brush size, and the other is the Alt key as super quick eyedropper tool.
However, the way he's holding the stylus looks super awkward. I would recommend holding the stylus like a regular pen or pencil.
Let it rest naturally and loosely on your middle finger (close to or on the first knuckle) and the crook of your thumb, using the tip of your thumb to hold it it place. You don't need to exert any force to keep it in place. This way, the middle finger is already free to move, and it is super easy to lightly tap the switch whenever needed.
I've been using a tablet for about 15 years, and never had any strain or discomfort.
I get lonely when I draw in my room. I know some proffesional artists go to studios, but what types of locations do non-proffesional artists, like you guys, go.
>>2609418
I feel ya OP.
I hardly feel inspired in my room. But I don't have the confidence to draw outside. I've tried taking pictures but its no different than just looking on my computer screen.
I've tried drawing at a park but I felt too self conscious to focus on drawing.
I bought a storage unit ($130/mo) I was going to lock myself away from the world/the internet from and draw in, but there was one thing I didn't count on.
No public bathrooms.
Also the cheap tables I bought wiggle around. It's maddening.
>>2609418
a cafe or coffee shop. you can't draw lewds though, or even tasteful nudes.
I've been intending to learn perspective and other foundations on and off for years now, but it hasn't happened. Should I just give up and move on?
>>2607954
if you are 25+ years old yeah give up
>>2607966
I'm 20
>>2607971
Then you have plenty enough plasticity left. Just force yourself to to it.
