>have to use Photoshop cs6 for coursework
>always wind up doing it in SAI or Gimp since those were the first programs I went to when I first started digital drawing
Help, how do I ween myself off these programs? PS is the industry standard in America and afaik, SAI is only used prominently in Japan by professionals.

What do you really expect people to say? That there is some secret trick for this?

Yes its really hard
Ive been using SAI and Gimp for years because they are easy to use and understand and now I have to use CS6 for my course
>>
Discipline.

Uninstall SAI and Gimp from your PC. You know you have to learn Photoshop, the only way you can do that is to only use Photoshop. Full immersion. Never use SAI or Gimp again.

I want to request drawings like this one, maybe you, anon, do something like it? What I mean is rough (or not, i don't know really), detailed (not sure), with expressive forms, colorful. I'll post more examples.

Anybody go to art school in oregon? How was your experience?
I'm looking to move to Eugene. Does the Uni have quality staff or is the curriculum all tainted by lefty propaganda and "art has no definition" horseshit?
Are there any solid schools outside of Uni?

Idk but I wanted to go to Oregon university for my BFA but it takes a year to be a citizen there and it's expensive af if ur not!
>>
>going to Eugene
>Place filled with nothing but homeless bums

Yeah nah, most of Oregon is lost to tumblr-tier SJW bullshit.

I live in Beaverton and I've been to the Art Institute campus in Portland for a tour and it was even worse. Same with Portland State University. The Portland area is probably the worst as it's pretty much liberalism central.

I go to Portland Community College just to finish my general associates and I took a life drawing class at one of their campuses. Was pretty chill surprisingly. If you're going to go to a college or university for art I would just recommend taking classes at a local college cuz its cheaper. Or just not going to college at all and just learn on your own (best option)

http://kofaniv.snkplaymore.co.jp/english/info/15th_anniv/2d_dot/creation/index.php

it's good for keeping a base level of quality and making sure everything is on model, but it doesn't really do anything to make animating or cleanup faster.
it also wasn't very feasible apparently as snk have dropped it completely.
blazblue & p4a series use a similar technique

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/02/09/the-art-of-blazblue-part-2-animation-phase/

skullgirls also used some 3d for keeping complex objects like bigband on model (i think uniel did some of this too? )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z_3z91yUUY

assuming you'd be doing this style of animation on your own, you would also need to be very good at both 3d modeling/rigging/animation and traditional animation as weakness in either would compromise the whole thing.

tl;dr:
it has uses particularly for a large team with variable experience, but making animation faster or easier aren't among them

Hey /ic/, is it even possibile to work on the internet using traditional and not digital? there are examples of currently generazione artista that do that?
Do you need spec ops scanner, or its something you can do with a normal device?

I see a lot of well known urban sketchers who use pen and watercolor that just work traditionally. The guy from parkablogs seems to work mostly traditionally and Liz Steele. Also Jake Parker works mostly traditionally it seems like.
>>
>>2604735
and they are all shit. specially the guy from parkablogs. just awful.
>>
The main problem is that most scanners are fairly small and most traditional artists work in a fairly large scale. Pencil or pen drawings and watercolour paintings are likely to be OK, but anything else will probably need a large and expensive scanner or careful photography (which is more about having a decent tripod and lighting set-up than the camera).

I think I need help /ic/. Due to depression, a few family deaths, being alone all day and other issues I've slowly begun drinking alcohol and smoking weed everyday. I'm at a point where I can't start my day without a little smoke or drink (mostly both) and I need to keep up my buzz throughout the day or I don't function. I basically stopped drawing and painting a few months ago because of no motivation and constant depression. I really need to get back into drawing and painting all day erryday or I'll ruin my future as well as my health.
Does anyone have experience with this sort of issue? What could help me break the cycle? I don't have any family or friends to support me and I think because there's no one in my life to judge my behaviour I'm subconsciously not giving a fuck. Halp

I live in Canada, I'm 25, and money isn't an issue. I'm late to this career but I am willing to put in the work and time, I just want to know what my best course of action is here.

If I go the studio route, I'm enrolling in Sheridan College here and going into either the Animation or Illustration program. That way, I can get a work visa much faster and take advantage of the huge industry in the US.

If I go freelance, it won't really matter where I live, and I'll be up $45,000 but it will be harder to get work and I'll need to be more resourceful and business savvy.

What would you do?

Live as cheap as possible while devoting yourself to developing a quality portfolio. Once you have that, freelance. If you're good, companies in the USA can put in a request for a visa on your behalf citing your indispensable skills or something I think. That's how Marko Djurdjevic was brought over here apparently. Not sure how hard it is to convince them that your skills are needed enough though. Canada has some studios anyway.
>>
>>2604440

I'm told you're eligible if you have 4 years of college or 12 years of work experience, or a combination of both (e.g. 2 years of college + 6 years of work)

I have never heard of a person who didn't meet these requirements being given an H1-B work visa to live in the US permanently

Not interested in the slightest in temporary visas where you can work there for 3-4 years then need to go back. Fuck that, moving to the US is a career move.

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Ok /ic/, I'm an animator and I draw everyday pretty much.

In the last month I've gotten a monitor tablet but recently my thumb has been feeling numb and painful after I draw within 2 hours.

I bought a wrist brace in case but how long should I lay off drawing until the pain goes away?

Has anyone experienced carpal tunnel and know how to prevent it?
15 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2603379
Usually it has to do with ergonomics. Wrist brace is only a temporary solution. Obviously you cannot stop drawing, but you should take regular breaks and do carpal tunnel stretches. Make sure you're not hunching over, that your chair is at a good level, and that you don't have to bring your hands up to your desk. Something for me specifically is that I had a habit of tightening up when trying to draw precise lines. Watch out for habits like that and try to keep your muscles relaxed. You can try a more ergonomic mouse such as the sideways ones as well.

If your carpal tunnel remains really bad though you should see a doctor.
>>
>>2603379
Pretty much what >>2603384 said. It's more than just your wrist, something in your body is either off or you're overworking without taking breaks.
When I started in my first animation studio, I had wrist and finger pain. I changed up posture and made sure I took stretch breaks. I also work digitally so a tablet is a lot easier on the body than a pencil.

Are you traditional or digital? Please don't tell me you use a mouse...
>>
I'm fairly new to the world of artwork but i've been playing Smash Bros. Melee for 6 years pretty competitively and I found that all hand pain disappears once you start doing numerous hand stretches throughout the day. Just pull back your fingers and your wrists until you feel a burn and hold it.

Frank Cho just told DC Comics and Greg Rucka to fuck off after they censored his cover of Wonder Woman by cropping it to hide her panties.

His statement:

>All the problem lies with Greg Rucka.

>EVERYONE loves my Wonder Woman covers and wants me to stay. Greg Rucka is the ONLY one who has any problem with covers. Greg Rucka has been trying to alter and censor my artwork since day one.

>Greg Rucka thought my Wonder Woman #3 cover was vulgar and showed too much skin, and has been spearheading censorship, which is baffling since my Wonder Woman image is on model and shows the same amount of skin as the interior art, and it’s a VARIANT COVER and he should have no editorial control over it. (But he does. WTF?!!!)

>I tried to play nice, not rock the boat and do my best on the covers, but Greg’s weird political agenda against me and my art has made that job impossible. Wonder Woman was the ONLY reason I came over to DC Comics.

>To DC’s credit, especially [Art Director] Mark Chiarello, they have been very accommodating. But they are caught between a rock and a hard place.

>I just wanted to be left alone and do my Wonder Woman variant covers in peace. But Greg Rucka is in a hostile power trip and causing unnecessary friction over variant covers.

What does /ic/ think?

That Frank Cho is problematic.
His objectification of women is disgusting. He's a pervert and probably a rapist.
Why are such vulgar comics still published in 2016? He should be fired. That will be one less cis-male corrupting art.
