I suspected it was a 3d paint over because you could see traces of polygons here and there and I was right. It's nicely done though.

Hey! This is a tattoo that i am very interested in but i am not sure what the style is called? Anyone who knows?
American Traditional

I googled it and it was perfect! Its the same as sailor jerry right?
Okay so I recently bought an old van that I plan on doing some custom work to. One thing in particular that I want to do is a mural. For the mural I'm thinking of maybe some simplistic lines on the lower half, and an actual mural on the upper half (pic related).
I was wondering what mural/line ideas you guys have, because I need some inspiration. One thing I know I definitely want to do, is to try to stick with only 4 colors.
>>2616572
Here's the colors I want to try and stick with.
>>2616572
And here is a side shot of my van so you can have an idea of what I'm trying to work with.
Please, I would love to hear all ideas.

That doesn't seem like /ic/.
Hey /ic/
Now more than ever the world needs your help. With the recent turn of events, we need artists, people able to convey messages through their medium to help bring back peace and reason.
I know you guys are like you and me, with your own set of ideas, but now that things are getting really shitty, it'd be really great to have some people working to bring back the calm.
So anything goes now, wether it be writing down insightfull words on walls, drawing pieces to evoke peace, or whatever the fuck you can do.
As artists, it is also your duty. Your voice can be way louder than a normie's. So please, use it well.

You didn't grow through the 80's did you?

Drawing completely mentally drains me for the day. I can hardly bring myself to practice because I need to take a nap after and basically throw out the rest of my day.
It's because I get sad when I can't do something. And I know that's why you practice, but I can't help but get really bummed out and stop because I'm so upset. It's not just for drawing, but for instruments too and sometimes math if I can't get it right for hw and such. It makes me hate drawing even though I've loved it since I was a toddler. Does anyone else share this feelings of depression because you're not really good at something
Depends on what I draw and the colors I use. I unconsciously feel more depressed when painting If I'm using a dull pallet compared to a vibrant one
>>2612681
What you are feeling isn't depression. Fuck off.
Anyway, just stop sitting down with the expectation of drawing or playing something great. Sit down to work with the expectation that you will do some work. If you have an hour to draw, sit down to draw for an hour and nothing else.
Sort of. I always think THIS is going to be the painting I can be proud of and begin on the path of the artist I want to be. I haven't posted anything for over a year despite improving drastically. I missed a gallery show submission I thought would break the cycle and now I feel worse than ever.
What should I do?
I've seen a lot of different topics posted on this board. But I have yet to see one about my particular problem.
What I'd like to know to the painters and users of photoshop on this board, is how you trained your accuracy of color? What steps did you take to become more accurate?
I understand that practicing over and over helps. But it seems like the colors that I try to predict are accurate to the reference I pick are most often the wrong hue or value, and the picture I make ends up being wholly different from the reference in terms of mood and vibrancy. So I often find myself using the color picker on my references and just do it that way.
I'd like to work on my accuracy of color without having to use the color picker. So I'd like to know how you guys might have resolved this issue or tips and tricks to have better color accuracy when you paint.

>color study
>take a subject you like/picture/real life/whatever and try to reproduce it's colors

Tons of studies + gut feeling
study values first, get good at them
THEN study color
So, I've been doing the basics for around a year, mainly figure drawing and a few still lifes for a class that I quit soon after. Then I thought I'd try drawing from imagination, I still can't draw the figures I think of. Does that mean I haven't practiced drawing from observation enough? At what point am I supposed to deviate and practice imagination drawing?
Pretty much no one, even at a high level, can do that, anon
I'd suggest you to take some time after your exercises trying to recreate from memory what you drew and why. Build up a visual library, that's the only way you can "practice" drawing from imagination. If you are very visual minded you can also try to think of a certain object, pose, composition whatever and jsut try to draw it and once you have troubles with a certain matter (how do these muscles work? how do i draw plants? how's this object going to look in that perspective? etc) you can use reference for those specific parts and memorize the process so you will be able to draw them from memory next time. It's obvious but there is also a huge difference if you want to draw stylized stuff from imagination with drawing photo realistic things from memory. The first one just requires a basic understanding of how forms work in a 3-D enviroment (perspective, construction of form, light sources) and subject related knowledge. Also keep in mind that for stylized works gesture, composition and colors can make up for a lot. Just look at some popular tumblr artist - most of them just have expressive stylized drawings that look good even tho they lack in many other aspects.

It this supposed to be trolling. Even I never use references for poses and I think I'm doing quite fine. Better artists imo do the same.
With the western release of Monster Hunter X/Monster Hunter Generations I thought it may be time to have a thread about Monsters. I personally find drawings/paintings of such Monsters very interesting and thought that maybe some of you guys share the same feeling. To widen the theme of this thread I guess anything artistic about fantastic creatures goes in here, but feel free to stick to MH related art. Post Artists/(concept)Art/Tips
what makes a good creature design for you guys?
what's your favorite fictional creature?

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, uhhh, have fun!

Remember the words of our good friend Glen Vilppu: “No rules, just tools.”
>>2606771
friendly reminder that you're all not going to make it.

Not true.
Unless you can draw entirely from imagination, your work is invalid 2bh.
Any retard can trace or use references.

I need to design some tattoos for his back. Basically, the idea is that he used to be a slave fighting in these gladiator-like pits, and like in Russia, each tattoo represents your sins. So one tattoo for each person he's killed in the pits basically.
Any ideas?
How important is sitting in a good posture when working?
Because I've been getting into the habit of working like in the picture and I'm wondering if it might be bad for my skills if I don't sit up and use my shoulders. I find I do more drawing if I do it lying down though, since I can do it in bed or without setting up a surface to work on.
Should I continue working a lot but in a sloppy posture or force myself to do it properly and therefore end up doing it less?
>>2616154
Everyday we drift further from god's light.
If you're really able to draw like that, respect.
But do whatever is more comfortable to you.
>>2616154
That is the fucking dumbest shit, are you just trying to be unique?
actually that might make for a good fap position.
Who else have these issues?
I'm just sick of being straight up trash at drawing & being a lazy and total moron that's too stupid to understand some things (say, perspective and anatomy) doesn't help much.
>>2616298
You just have a low tolerance of failure. It's okay. Not everyone is going to make it.

Allow yourself some failure. You aren't sharing everything online.
There's a huge, and I mean huge gap between you and experienced people, I know that, but life is not a contest, start slowly with some circles, keep going with some Loomis heads and download some references (>>>/hr/) to sketch later.
Keep studying one fundamental at a time. You don't have to draw every know subject.
Browse the "motivation" videos of ctrl+paint dot com and stop worrying. The only secret is keep practicing. Nobody will see your failures.

why aren't I kyle? I want to be kyle.
Alright so you know your fundamentals. How do you go about creating work that isn't just rehashed, uninspired, generic bullshit?
Is it just a matter of picking interesting subject matter? Is it a matter of just refraining from art trends? Drawing from a different source of inspiration?
I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this.
Gather a wide spectrum of influences
Watch a lot of movies, old and new. Read a lot, go to museums
If you spend all day here of course you'll end up drawing the same kind of boring, uninteresting shit most people look up to
Also go out inb4 re
I started messing around with different media lately cuz I'm out of sketch ideas I really like pastels but I'm in a rut again (sorry for bad camera)
