Does anyone else have trouble when they draw for someone else?
Every thing I've scribbled on paper through out my life so far has been solely for myself. Studies to my favorite characters, everything.
I went to a draw thread once to test my skills but it turned out that I did worse than usual.
How the hell am I suppose to make money now? Is there no hope? Am I forever a hobbyfag?

You're probably just not practicing enough, or are being more critical of this piece. Post your personal work and your work from the drawthread.
>>2611337
it could be both, I do practice everyday though
but sometimes whenever I'm thinking of getting some freelance part time at sites like peopleperhour, I get too worked up and worried if I won't make any progress or if it would slow me down... even though there are some people that are worse than me on the top page.
>>2611334
Yeah I feel the same. Other people's ideas are strangely taxing. Which is why, despite doing porn, I closed down my commissions and focused on making products.

You can always create your own thing like a webcomic and have books, shirts, etc. to sell along with a patreon.
Look the Obi Wan Kenobi mosaic tribute i made yesterday. Rate!
Nice job anon
i thought it was sean connery
Nice
Don't like the green background though
I'm making a comic in the art style of Scott Pilgrim. Can anyone give me advice in some do's and don'ts of comic making? Any scott pilgrim references?
do other style
don't use that scott style
Make your own fucking comic.
also bait.
>>2610160
Anon, if you're going to copy his style at least only copy how it looked in 5 and 6. He was actually just bad in 1-3.
So I sucked it up and made a patreon. I don't know how to write my description or what to promise. I've seen other people talk about needing to pay their rent/bills/food and I definitely don't want to go from that angle. But I am no professional who will be shipping books out to fans every week either. I've also seen people who received a lot of support at first, promising big things, and then not delivering.
How do I keep it classy /ic/?
Post examples of good patreons?
>>2609539
small things mainly. Offer to ship your sketchbook when you're done to a raffle of the highest donators.
Allow donators to suggest shit.
Offer Hi-rez and your work files and work process to those to donate.
Start live streaming and then offer shit to your viewers.
Basic crap man.
What do you draw, op?

I don't know anyone irl who draws, so when I go around carrying my sketchbook in front of people, I look like a weirdo. I'm not sure if it's because I draw or because I'm a silent autistic subhuman. Am I supposed to like act like a normie for a few months before drawing in the open? Is there anyway I can meet other artists even when I'm studying business in college?
>>2610809
Helps if you have a bag to carry it in, if not just carry a small pocket sketchbook. Conceal your sketchbook if you dont want the normies getting uncomfortably close to your shoulder as if its a spectator sport
>>2610812
Normies never get close to me. I pull out my sketchbook from my bag to draw, they look at me, and then turn their heads and carry on. One girl told me in a sort of annoyed voice, "Maybe you should draw guys". Sometimes I get normies that actually like my drawings and one even asked for a tumblr so far. But still, I'm always left out of conversations and generally ignored.
Which is why I'm not sure if it's because I draw or if I'm just a subhuman in general. I want artist friends because at least I could some how fit in.
>>2610822
trust me, artist friends are not worth it most of the time. You will get discouraged by how shit they are or discouraged about how fucking pretentious they are. Finding a middle ground is quite hard.
I'm 19 now, but I was an underage going through shitty High-school art classes up until last year.
I used to post on here back when I was 15 and was a victim of the LOOMIS meme spam. What's more important than Loomis is the practice of basic fundamentals.
Please don't decide to skip drawing from life.
I know people say it's important, but most of the time they never say why.
If you want to make something from your imagination, you have to make it out of basic shapes. I'm not talking about circles, squares, and triangles. I'm talking about cylinders, prisms, and spheres.
You have to think in 3D on paper.
If you don't know how to think in 3D (and I'm not talking, "Oh man I can make a cube! I'm set! I'm going to keep drawing from imagination and get better from practice!") you're hurting yourself tremendously. You learn how to think in 3D by de-constructing objects from life. It's not about simply copying what you see onto a piece of paper. You have to see through the form you're drawing. Pic related.
I have immense regret over not learning about this sooner. It was practically hidden on the /ic/ wiki when I was going through the resources.
I was left wondering "Why is everything I make so flat? What's so great about construction?"
Every time I tried to find an answer, I was redirected to garbage where men were created from flat 2D shapes, etc.
So please, DRAWING FROM LIFE IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO TO BECOME A BETTER ARTIST.
Wtf..You were a fucking idiot then, i as..Oh no..
Its fucking basic knowledge that you need to know what Construction Lines etc..are.
>>2609526
>What's more important than Loomis is the practice of basic fundamentals (...) drawing from life.
This clearly is on the sticky. And LOOMIS is short for read the sticky.
>You have to think in 3D on paper
Isn't this the first thing Loomis teaches you in FWAP? although not very explicitly.
>>2609538
If you look at the beginner thread on here, it's obviously not.
As previously stated, I went through 4 years of "art" classes and never saw anything of the sort.
how the fuck do i draw hands without my brain having to restart and do a system update?

thanks mate!
i feel like quitting art altogether
i'm currently in animation school and i'm constantly miserable. i draw for hours every day and i still feel so sad and empty.
i don't want to continue
i don't know how to fix this and i don't even know if i care enough to
>>2607228
But why are you sad.

pursuing art is hopeless and i constantly feel inadequate
Do any of you keep all of your art? Even spanning years ago? I've gotten to the point where my entire closet is full of sketch books and the trunk of my car filled with giant sketchpads. So I ask you... do you ever throw tons of your old stuff away?
>>2610205
I throw away halfassed doodle and bullshit but try to keep a good amount of art from each stage of my development. I have stuff from when i was like 6 still.
Probably a 2-3 boxes full
>>2610205
I have about seven portfolios packed to the gills with old art. It's really good for me because when I don't have any ideas, I can go and flesh out old ones that I didn't have the skill for back then. At least for me the inspiration and ideas are worth keeping old sketchbooks, but make sure you flip through them once in a while unless the reason you are keeping them is for your children or some shit.
I have all my sketchbooks still and even a few stacks of this weird spreadsheet kind of paper that my dad would bring me from his work so I wouldn't use up all of the printing paper. I throw away loose stuff but can't throw away sketchbooks, have milk crates of them in my parents storage.
It's fun to go through the real old shit and remember my teenage feelings and laugh at the awful chibis.
I've been drawing pixel things for /a/ for several weeks now, but I want some tips on how to improve using paint.
kek
Get back to the basics and apply em.
Pixel art is just the medium. If you want to make great pieces you'll need to have correct basis
I know it's not specific or even interesting, but seruously, read and study the sticky
>>2607406
stop going to jojo threads please
Shrink your canvas. Make the most out of each individual pixel.
I suggest starting out at 100x100, trying out the style of the DS Pokemon games, then either increasing or decreasing the size of your canvas to suit your style. In my opinion, the maximum size of sprites should be around Street Fighter's size. Any bigger, and they turn into normal pictures.
Image planning on killing yourself (or don't if you plan on killing yourself) what would be the last thing you'd draw before ending it?
>>2611177
a painting of myself dead
I'd draw you're mom
Alright this may or may not be retarded, was probably already thought off and posted a bunch of times, but I'll still try this anyways, as I think it may be a cool idea, and I couldn't find anything alike while browsing this board.
I don't know how your brains work whenever you draw something, but when I do, I always think of a certain theme that I want my art to fit into. One that can be defined easily in words, as a summary of what I'll be able to see in the picture.
If you have drawn something that you have come up with yourself, try to put it into a few words and post it in this thread, but don't include an image.
Other anons can come here and draw something solely based off the few elements behind your idea, and finally post it. (If you want to, you could then post your original drawing)
This is a win-win sort of game, as anybody can come to this thread and find some inspiration, and those who have posted their ideas will see them redefined. Could obviously work with time limits as well.
tl;dr
Write a short definition of what your drawing looks like, another anon can draw their interpretation of it.
Might be cool, will probably flop, I thought we could give this a shot.

Which style of painting makes for the best desktop wallpaper?
>>2611132

How is this style of coloring done? It looks almost like watercolor, but more precise and vivid. There are also spots where it looks like water was dropped on and spread out on it's own instead of brush strokes. How difficult is it to replicate this? I usually just use pencils and never color anything when I draw, but this was a little unique and eye catching to me. This artist has a bunch of drawings like this so I'll post a few and let you guys check it out. I know it's weeb stuff, but I'm more interested in how it's colored not the picture itself, although they are cute.
>>2610798
it's called using layers
>>2610806
I think it looks especially cool with the wood grain being lightly drawn on there. The artist is Terajin, if you want to look up more.
