I figured this was the right place to ask.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some download links for instructional books for drawing or artbooks for reference and inspiration.
Also if anyone's willing to share their reference folder full of poses, anatomy, clothing, or whatever would you be willing to dump it here too? Realism, cartoonish, or anime styles are welcomed.
I want to amass some references and bring them to my work computer and draw because I have waaay too much free time at work, so might as well improve my drawing.
I figured this thread can be used as just one big resource dump, sorry if I'm breaking some rules or something.
Thanks in advance!

Drawing from life is the best so get outside, otherwise just go to /s/ and read loomis
>>2560802
>go outside and abandon my work to draw
>go on /s/ at work
You trying to get me promoted?
>>2560873
>drawing at work
You just promoted yourself. Also face it, nobody will care about your night guard at the parking lot job.
Can we have a Deviantart thread? Pretty please? I need a good laugh.
>>2610890
Wait, delete this I think it breaks the rules.
>>2610894
Are you talking to yourself? If it breaks the rules the mods would delete it. If you don't want it up anymore then you delete it.
There are cringe threads all the time but as everyone else I've never actually read the rules
Have you ever seen an art style that really grew on you?
For me it was Shinkiro's work. Initially I was turned off but years later I have fondness for it.
>>2609861
i used to hate this
but now i can't stop obsessing over the style
>>2609861
Damn ash is buff and blonde now???
>>2609871
I pity the fool that knows nothing about the awesomeness of Terry Bogard yet all of the lame antics of Ash Ketchum
I hate Ryky and don't understand how he became that famous
This girl paid fuckin 50 USD for that
what the shit. what's that blue shit on her shoulder. what is that face. you can literally see the clipping between the layers.
what the fuck
ryky is fucking cancer. fucking hate this lazy cunt.
its not just that hes a bad artist, he manages to convince normies that hes awesome with how many shiny sparkle colors he uses. fucking pisses me off.
you can see in his brushstrokes that he doesnt give a fuck. its like he doesnt even enjoy drawing.
These are some comments under this piece.
I don't get it, how can people just lie like that.
I would like to draw a drawing with this composition I made.
Pic rel is a thing I did with paint in a minute to show as example.
2 characters in a dark alley, the white part in the background is outside the alley, it's a street, the street would remain empty, nothing would be drawn here, I thougnt about doing something showing that the street can't be really perceived, because it's much more bright.
What is my issue here is that I don't know how to fill the grey part; the dark alley. It would be quite dark, the left part would have a lot of black in it, a black area with 0 details. It would fade to something brighter towards the horizon point (the street)
I hope you get my point, can you give me advice on ow to deal with the dark alley ?
Im searching for references but I don't know how to put what I've found on the drawing. References aren't really helping me, that's why I'm asking

OP here, something I've found and I would like to do something with kind of a similar effect with the alley
When it comes to designing alien or other such fantastical beasts and beings, what actually makes the creature compelling, mystifying and well "Alien"?
Well something that does not look like anything you know of is Alien. When it comes to good looking designs however you need to take inspiration from nature or else our dumb little monkey brains dont know what they're looking at.
The way I see it is that most good alien designs are really bizarre combinations between a few organisms while trying to keep a general theme going.
The Kaiju from Pacific Rim for example usually carry traits found in fish, sharks and whales because they come from the sea, the Otachi for example (pic related) has taken great inspiration from a bat with the front legs/wings and the nose. It also features a "double-horn" found in ancient rhinoceros species though it is entirely possible it was just added because there wasnt enough clutter around the nose. The tail of the beast resembles that of a fish's skeleton presumably to give it an exoskeleton look for added toughness.
On the flipside you have H.R Giegers stuff (Alien trilogy) which in my opinion is a type of design thats made to look offputting or even horrific with the fusion between organic and mechanical while still trying to keep it looking like it's one living organism.
As a sidenote: Asymmetry is generally a bad idea, most people use asymmetry to signify mutations or disease even though it's found in creatures like crusteaceans that can have one big and one small pincer for example.
>TLDR: It depends on what you're trying to create, take from what you know and experiment.
I've been struggling with this recently, since I've been doing a lot of alien illustrations for my rpg group. I think that, like so much in art, the key is research. Understanding how animals evolved gives you insights into how things could be different. These were done in a bit of a rush and with software I haven't really mastered yet, so they could be better, but the group seems pleased with what I'm doing.
Quick cheat list for making things alien: transparent skin, colours other than brown, spikes and/or fronds, number of limbs other than 4, number of eyes other than 2, respiratory intake not through the throat, ears not on the head, number of heads other than 1, mouth not a vertebrate-style jaw, holes running through the body. You really only need a couple of those to start looking interesting.

Sorry anon, but I had to do this.
What art books do you want to physically have?
What art books do you recommend?
I want pic related to study the technique used by him, have some references, and enjoy it whenever I want far away from the screen.
what the fuck man, you couldn't have asked that in this thread?

Oh shit. /tv/ is leaking again!
HE DIDNT DRAW SO GOOD
>>2609742
You're a big drawing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr357guHcyw
Can someone identify what pen is he using?
>>2603310
You're part of the problem with so many artists in this day and age. The pens aren't fucking important. Only amateurs who have no idea what they are doing think pens actually matter. They don't. The standard ballpoint pen is all you need. Asking about pens implies that having them is going to get you anywhere. It's not.
PS:Kill yourself.

post this in, i'm sorry if it is)
when i draw i like to have noise in the background (because it helps me forget how much of a lonely little spider i am and i like absorbing info while doing busy work that way) but i can't just have ANY noise, oh no, i need to have something intellectual. the type of thing that you can play in the background and learn a bunch of stuff, and if it's dense with information that means it has more replay value because you can go back and listen to the stuff you missed without feeling like your only replaying it because you have nothing else to watch. The thing is i'm starting to go through my supply and i'm starting to panic. can anyone point me to good videos that hold what i want?;(the stuff that i watch for this is usually hour+ long podcasts but i'm open to anything good, here's a link example and sorry for my shittaste https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GF7GM26ngo )
does /ic/ have any suggestions for me?

I like listening to alan watts when im tired of music
dudes got a pretty soothing voice, interesting ideas and most of his lectures are uploaded in hour long sessions, you could give him a shot

>>2595146
lol, i'm used to listening to hour+ stuff were people are talking to each other and having discussion. I don't think i have ever listened to some guy who is just monologuing. That being said this looks pretty good, i'll check it out

i hope i get more posts as interesting as yours

Why make a thread to show off your two minute doodles? Something tells me you'd be more comfortable fishing for compliments about your boring life on facebook
Who is this guy
Why does he show up in poses so often?
Does he draw?
