Hey guise. I'm making a playing card thing called "Supreme Confiscator". Would love some tips and tricks and what ever. I think I'm about 45% done at this point. Been working on this for 4 evenings evenings so that's like ~29h. The thing he's holding is going to be some scroll with some Latin crap written on it. He's like "You need to pay your bills niggahhhh!!".

I was thinking of going over all the fabrics and the background with a hard 100% opacity brush to make everything look a little more painterly and adding stuff like strands of saliva between his teeth or something. I'll also make the smoke more blue so make it seem like it's grabbing light from those blue windows.

Feed my back...

Damn dude, not offense but this is pretty nuts. You are spending hours polishing a turd.

After 4 evenings you still haven't got the drawing right, haven't got the general colours established well. You painting is really muddy and the shadows are just going black basically. It feels like you are relying too much on things like overlay or colour dodge or burn. Any of those digital layer and brush modes are pretty dangerous because they push the values very extreme and push the saturation a lot, and in very predictable ways.

Stop mindlessly rendering and take a few steps back and then just spend a little bit of time correcting the big main important things.
>>
>>2729181

I love what you did with the overpainting and it's great that you gave me a strict critique. I know that I definitely need to get rid of those black shadows. I just find it easier to work from bark to light so I'll definitely do that. Going into rendering too early is also a big problem that I have... I'm don't understand your overpainting 100%.

Are you basically saying that I should bring the darkest darks closer to midtones and that I should emphasize all the attributes like the beard and jacket to make the character design more interesting? If you could just elaborate more on what you were going for with your overpaint that'd be great. I was all ready going to make the scroll super light so I really don't need to hear about that but yeah. Thank you!

I just want to paint my art and make money. I have three jobs and I hate them all.

How do I get my art more public so people will start noticing me? Social media is filled with adolescent drama and no one has an interest in purchasing fine art.

I'm so over the world being controlled by trendy bullshit pop culture. Where are my classy upscale companions.

God damnit I hate the world.

What is the best market to start making artwork immediately and get the best returns as fast as possible?

Fan art seems to be the big player.
Furry and porn are definitely off the list, but I know it's super huge.

I don't know, nor do I have experience with actually selling my work since none of my stuff is pop culture related (I'm working towards concept design for film). I do know how to draw people and characters, but I don't really know exactly how to tap into this market.

Fan art for movies? Fan art for up-coming movies? What about nostalgic videogame fan art? Metroid always seems to do well.

Naturalistic or hyper complex pop culture works, yes. Of any medium - sports, videogames, soap operas, whatever. Just play to your interests, make it less painful, and remember to expose yourself to the areas where fans of that medium gather.

Do you have the imagination and aesthetic taste to create something like this?

This is what it takes to become a concept artist in 2016.

It's not to my taste but it's well done. There's a variety of different ideas there and they're all presented clearly and looks like hte artist producted many iterations quickly. This is what real concept art looks like. People's perceptions of things are messed up because of Art Of books which are mostly filled with polished material.

I tried this once before with a small bit of success, let's give it another go and play a game together /ic/.

Open a movie, pause it somewhere (wherever you like, but don't make it TOO obvious), and draw it. Take as long as you want, it can be a 15 minute sketch or a long ass rendered out study. Others then try and guess.

I'll start.

they said their target demographic is young artists on the go
its cheaper than other products
can use regular paper on its pad
and has an attractive design

but it is cheaper
the touch screen has no pressure sensitivity
and has weaker specs

you overall get what you pay of course, but is it competitive at its price?

I'm getting an Intuos Pro Medium, I can squeeze out just a bit more money for Intuos Pro Large, but I think that'll be a bad idea financially.

I know that it doesn't have that great of an effect, but I'm still very nervous about the purchase

Can you guys convince me that Intuos Pro Medium is all fine?

Can you guys show me good or great artists who use Intuos Medium (8.8 x 5.5 in active area)?

I know this is retarded as fuck, but I'm anxious as fuck since I'm poor as fuck.

I'll start with one artist I like that use Intuos Medium, Teal Line Guy

Most pro artists I know use the medium size. The large is actually too large for many people. I use the medium and have used it for a number of years and am glad this is the size I have.

More money doesn't mean better. I've used cintiqs and hate them, really the medium intuos is the best imo.
>>
>>2727333
Thanks dude.
Yeah, I've heard a lot that Medium is the optimal size

But one of the things that made me anxious is the fact that Feng Zhu, who is a top industry artist, uses Intuos Large.

So that's why I want to see other great artists who use Intuos Medium

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

So I bought the 50 pack for prokos references and I'm pretty happy about it and recommend it. But I'm here to ask for more references. Does anyone know where to look for other various body types for females like fat/chubby or muscular/fit? I don't mean searching on multiple sites I mean as in 1 pack.
