I can't afford the real thing right now.

I ask because I'm sure the way you lift has to be a factor in how effective it is, and that some objects are better than others.

I don't have the energy to do more than a few sets of squats, but I lift at home so I have no access to other machines like a leg press to increase overall volume.

How can I get around this predicament?

I've tried doing front squats or deadlifts after my back squats, but it feels impossible, my form is atrocious and I just get burnt out for a few days after.

I never had this issue when I was lifting at the gym and just used the leg press and leg extension/leg curls. A few sets of hard squats seems to destroy my life-force

Maintaining mobility for weightlifting is very important and yoga works just fine. For me I work best when im told to do something for things i hate to do like cardio or stretching. Just make sure you don't sign up for strength yoga, its the same thing but you end up holding the poses for way longer.

Avoid any place that lets you do more than a few basic poses until you've gotten them right. Or any of the meme yogas. You don't need to be in a damn sauna, if you're doing it properly you'll be sweating enough. It's not just a stretch, but an isometric hold.

Due to years of changing my mind on cutting/bulking every few weeks, I just got fat, and stayed weak.

I am not joking when I say I have been lifting for over 4.5 years, coming up on 5 years soon.


I'm 5'7 82kg in pic related; currently cutting down to 70kg or so.

Is it possible to "reset" yourself lifting-wise?


Current lifts

Squats 3x8 - 70kg
Bench 3x8 - 80kg
OHP 3x8 - 55kg
Chin-Ups 3x8 - 82kg (bw)

I don't want to reset right now because I'm fat and I want to be lean before I begin. I don't want to just begin bulking on a fresh/novice routine again right now while being high body-fat %.

I actually stopped benching/squatting at one point, and only did Hammer Strength Press machine and Leg Presses.

But I no longer have access to those plate-loaded machines and rely only on Barbell Bench and Squat now....

What do you mean by "bulking"? A skinny guy eating a 500 kcal surplus and slowly gaining muscle mass and getting larger over time? Or do you mean eating a bunch of garbage and getting fat as fuck so that you can "cut" later? There is no reason to do a bunch of bulk/cut cycles. Get up to your rough natty potential in terms of weight, then cut down to a decent bf%. I understand that your bf% will fluctuate over time due to illness or getting lazy with your diet, and you may need to gain/lose weight again. But you should not be doing a bunch of bulk/cut cycles.

I'm the fat girl.
This is my first week at the gym and every night after work, the same three girls are there. Today I found out they have been snap chatting pictures of me and making fun of me, but I don't mind.
I'm glad that you haven't gone through what I've been through. I use to be in shape, I broke my hip and had to give up all exercise. Then my grandma got sick and I took care of her full time, I couldn't leave her alone because I had no help, so I gained more weight. Then she died, and I ate my feelings and gained more weight. Now I'm a size 22. I don't hate myself, or my body. I love who I am, and that took me my entire life to be able to honestly say those words. I love myself.
It really sucks that society, and your parents raised you that it was okay to try to hurt someone that's trying to better themselves instead of trying to lift them up but I'm not mad. Thank you for reminding me to keep pushing after I had a really long day. In a month when the new year shit has worn off, I'm still going to be dieting and working my ass off at the gym everyday. It's not so you, or anyone else, will except me. It's for me.
I hope anyone else, who feels ugly or is over weight and has decided to make a life change will keep going.
Forget the skinny girls who laugh at you, or the muscly men that tell you you're gross, love yourself.
Let's teach love, today's world needs it
