ITT: General DOS gaming
What I wouldn't do for a GOG release of Bedlam...
DOSbox and other game-focused emulators are sloppy, mediocre approximations that still don't hold a candle to actual PC hardware of the time.
Pic related.

Well if Dosbox gives you problems, you could always try PCem which emulates the hardware itself rather than a dos command line environment.
Are there any Pokemon fan games made in RPG Maker that are like generation 1 games (same graphics/tilesets, pokemon, etc…).
Why would you do that when you can just hack the original game?
And to answer your question, I've never seen any. Because most people who would want to work towards that result would just hack the original game.

Generation 1 era fan game.
i remember pokemon brown being a really cool hack
Who else pre-ordered one of these bad boys? I can't wait.

It's interesting, but I'll be waiting for it to come out and be proven before I bite.
any proof that it actually works?

The dude behind it is an NES hacking veteran who is hoping to kickstart a new indie/homebrew scene with cartridge releases. This isn't your typical cheap Chinese crap with half-assed clone chips or an Android emulator. It plays unlicensed games, Castlevania III, and even has space to fit a Famicom Disk System RAM cart and play the extra audio channel.

Neo Geo MVS and AES Thread
Post high quality Neo Geo MVS and AES games.
I love the originals but there are many great covers out there, if you know some, post'em

Trying to replay pic related. Found the PC version to be the best because updated graphics and 60 fps, but there's a game breaking glitch that happens after the heli chase where you die in a cutscene. Anyone know a way around or a version that doesn't do this?
Dreamcast version is the least glitchy and has the same graphics as PC.
>>3417458
Thanks.
Is the framerate there though?
>>3417460
Yes.
There are quite a few titles from the third generation home consoles that have aged well, but it does not seem like anything from second generation home consoles are worth revisiting or have stood the test of time?
Pic sorta related, second generation home consoles were dominated by poor arcade ports.
Id argue that games like Warlords and Battlezone hold up.
Second Gen is an adquired taste, play stuff and wait to get used to it. If time keep passing and you don't seem to enjoy anything, just stop wasting your time. You don't have to like it because hipster points.

Midnight Magic for the Atari 2600.
Why do so many ROM hacks come in .ips files and require Lunar IPS to patch?
it was the 90's
>>3417315
Because when you distribute a rom hack, you're also distributing the game's original code, which is illegal. An .ips file is just the hack's new data.
Patches aren't illegal.
What foods would be available for someone trying to start a Pac-Man diet if one were to include the available items from every game?
I'm not sure what the real-life equivalent of pellets and ghosts would be. A power pellet would be like a tab of pcp that would make you go berzerk on everyone and eat them. But since the ghosts can regenerate maybe they represent some kind of renewable plant or fungus. I dunno. Maybe pellets would be pellets of Soylent or the like, but that sounds gross.
Also, maybe instead of eating keys you could eat a nice piece of key lime pie instead. And some bell peppers instead of eating a bell. That kind of thing. You would obviously have to eat the foods in some kind of order as well and determine some kind of intergame guidelines for item equivalencies. As a result there would be some choice, but once you ate an item from one point tier you would have to move on the next one.
I'm surprised no one has designed some pseudo-scientific marketing mumbo jumbo to try to sell this to rubes. You could say there was some kind of secret Japanese diet some, I don't know, monks or some shit, came up with where you had to eat foods in certain orders to gain immortality, but nobody knows what the foods really are and the Pac-Man diet is a bastardized but still salubrious offshoot of the original magical diet.
Celebratory pizza would also be allowed.
ALso, would you rather eat the Pac-Man or the Bubble Bobble diet?
This pushed another thread off the board

How is this even a real question?
Underage or retarded?
>>3417281
Let us all shed a tear for that 404'd thread about some guy's saturn not running the audio properly. I'm sure you were just about to give an insightful reply.
What's your favourite game based on the Alien franchise?
I feel like replaying Alien Trilogy since I never beat it. Any main difference between the DOS, PS and Saturn versions?
>>3417209
I was 16 when trilogy first came out. Back when blockbusters rented games I tried to complete it before returning it, played it almost solid for 3 days straight. Fucked me up, was hearing the motion tracker when I was trying to sleep and was always on edge.
>>3417209
always bugged me that the pistol bullets fly so slow
>>3417209
Is it just me or is the Ps1 version of this game really freaking dark? No matter what I do with my system settings and tv settings it still seems too dark to see anything
Why is every Ocarina of Time 2D fan game a piece of shit with ugly repurposed sprites made by a faggot?
>>3417201
There's more than one?
Because that's about 90% of the Zelda fanbase.
Are there any good accounts of what it was like to be in the trenches of retro game development, written with programmers in mind? For example, there are tons of stories about how Iwata saved various Nintendo games during his early years at the company, but I can't find any information on what the specific problem was those games were facing, or the solution Iwata came up with. There's a similar thing for Atari. Many accounts reference how hard it was to program 2600 games or to port certain arcade titles, but don't go into the coding specifics of what kind of obstacles were encountered.

Who made Iwata puppet there? That thing is bitchin.

Anyone have or used one of these Logitech ps2 cordless action controllers? I bought it new in packaging from ebay but it doesn't sync. The receiver blinks quickly looking for the controller but I push the button on the controller it blinks for like 10 sec I guess looking for the receiver and just quits. Know what I can do to fix this overpriced wreak?
>>3417183
Why would you get one? There's so many better alternatives.
>>3417202
I thought it seemed pretty cool and don't know of those alternatives you speak of.
>>3417208
You want something for the PS2?
Anybody else play this one? I feel like it's a better bronze-age/ancient world strategy game than Sid Meier's civilization, though it has a worse UI.
Also general /vr/ Grand Strategy and 4x thread
I played the board game, does that count?
>>3417363
Definitely
>>3417175
A lot simpler than Civ, which is why I don't really like it personally as a PC game. AIs are super predictable on the trading phase as well.
Never played the board game.
Decent soundtrack though, especially the calamities phase.
