What are the best/cheapest ways to dump ROMs for each console?
>>3425392
Do you have autism? The majority of roms have been dumped since the 90s, it's completely unnecessary.
Retrode with adapters overall. Super UFO is cheap for snes and can dump roms though.
Everything is already online, just get the No-Intro set.
What's the best Marvel fighter in your opinion?
>X-Men: Children of the Atom
>Marvel Super Heroes
>Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
>X-Men vs Street Fighter
>Marvel vs Capcom
>Marvel vs Capcom 2
>>3425097
Out of all of those, I would say Marvel vs. Capcom.
>>3425097
Tatsunoko vs Capcom

LOL fighters are a scam.
If the SuperFX was released as an add-on pass-thru cartridge (like the Game Genie or Sega 32X), would we have seen more games use the technology?
The chip itself only added $10 to the price of a cart, but in an age where cart games were already hitting $80, devs were wary of adding too much price. So a separate SuperFX cart could've been a cheap upgrade from a onetime purchase. The add-on cart could even include a bit more beef to justify making a purchase like that
>>3425027
You gotta make it a super FX 2 at least, probably up the clock rate however much more you can past that, and if it can have extra memory or something on it, that would be absolutely called for.
I'd say you'd want to slip in both an SFX2 *and* an SA-1 chip, assuming that is feasible, though who knows how well they'd work together. But if it had some extra memory or something like that, and if only one chip could be used at a time but either could use the same add on memory, that kind of setup would be the sensible option.
>>3425064
2 SuperFX chips? Running at the same time? You absolute madman
>>3425083
Damnit, NO! We were not running two SFX chips at once! It only seemed that way to uninformed people!
Do you think there would be a significant market for a company like Nintendo or Sega to bring back old consoles with new cartridge game releases (and re-prints of old classics)? Games would come in the same sized boxes as before, and with printed color instruction manuals.
Also the new versions of these consoles would have modern connectivity options like HDMI and wireless controllers but otherwise remain unchanged.
Absolutely not. Aside from the slim market of retro gamers/collectors, only a handful of average gamers would bother buying into it, especially with Wii U VC and the NES Mini.
No, carts are expensive to make.
It would only work with expensive carts, but you're better off buying a repro.
Also, sega releases their games in bundles. The PS3 sega collection has 49 games. For 10 bucks.
Also, lots of the companies that made games for old consoles don't exist anymore.
They make easier money with the virtual console or ps store.
Tell me what you think the best /vr/ Sonic zone is, and explain why.
I've been playing CD a lot recently, and I've decided that Quartz Quadrant is the best zone in any of the classic Sonic games. It's not the fastest, but it's definitely the smoothest. Every bit of the level flows perfectly into the next, and there's platforming action that doesn't require you to slow down. It's the perfect mix of speed and platforming, and you can freely switch between the high and low routes at different points.
Wacky Workbench is definitely the best, it takes platforming to a whole new level, the floor can either punish you or you can use it to your advantage.
It has a frozen sprite which is pretty awesome.
It also includes a statue cameo in Past and Bad Future versions of the stage.
>>3424918
Well there's an original opinion. I think Wacky Workbench gets a lot of undue hate, but it still ain't exactly top notch. Primarily because the whole zone relies on the one gimmick. I feel that the bouncy floor and highground areas could be made to work in a 10/10 level, but it needs to be more than just two acts worth of non-stop workbench wackiness.
>>3424807
Ice Cap Zone is my fav, its pretty and it stands out compared to the average Sonic level. Plus it looked pretty awesome in diehard gamefan before the game got released.
Never really played any other game besides original Red in the Pokemon series, I have basically no knowledge as to how other games work, the Pokemon outside of 151 etc
What would be recommended as some of the better Pokemon games other than the originals?
Pokemon Snap on the N64 was a nice on-rails shooter
How many fucking /vp/ threads do we need? You have an entire board to contain your autism, go back there.

Are these sticks any good? I plan on making my own 6-button controllers for my supergun to play CPS2 boards, and ebay has these for pretty cheap. Also, any tips for rewiring to a DB15/Neo Geo connection?
>>3424710
>I plan on making my own 6-button controllers for my supergun to play CPS2 boards, and ebay has these for pretty cheap
what do these 2 things have to do swith one another?
You're wasting your time with budget sticks; on top of shit tier "feel" (mushy and not clicky like they should be) and build quality to begin with, they tend to have the lever and buttons soldered straight onto the PCB and they don't have standard mounts for parts anyway, so it's a major effort to swap out those parts for ones that are actually decent, let alone to try and rewire it to work with another system
>>3424710
build your own. Most of these sticks are rubbish.

You are less than 4 levels into the game, what's the problem?
It's not like you got fucked right before Diablo.
>>3424591

No it's just that the Butcher was designed to be bullshit and I had to cheese him. Why is such a difficult boss literally on the second floor? He runs just as fast as you do, maximum swing speed, each swing stun locks you, has 220 health. Even if the answer was to overlevel and then come back, that's not good design either.
nes or master system?
Neither.
>>3424436
This.
>>3424431
Both.
No to playstation one.
Many retro games got releases on multiple platforms. The differences were sometimes minor, other times more drastic but the arguably more powerful hardware may not necessarily be the best version.
ITT post multiplatform retro games, discuss which version you prefer and why.
My favorite port - actually, a compilation of ports - is Super Mario All-Stars. While it doesn't add a lot of original things to the NES Super Marios (the save battery is the best change here, imo), 4 good games in one cartridge is still something very generous.
>>3424386
do you prefer the versions found in Mario All-Stars to the later GBA ports?
I prefer the SNES versions. Super Mario Advance 4 has bonus levels and a boomerang power up but you need a e-reader and e-cards to unlock them. Super Mario Advance 2 adds differences between Mario and Luigi but that's it.
The characters' voices are pretty annoying and Mario 3 already has Mario Bros., so, personally, I don't care about them. Also, the sound looks kinda muffled in these GBA ports.
Which was the greater retro Japanese computer?
The PC-98 is a fucking institution, even today.
In library size, the PC-98 wins by far.
The X68000 is more powerful. CAPCOM used it to develop their arcade games, that's why the X68000 has some of the earliest great arcade ports.

They went with an objectively worse format and it ruined entire generations of gaming. Why did they do this?
PAL is an objectively better format for watching television programs though.
When it was designed there were no home video games.
PAL-M master race.
>60hz refresh like NTSC
>superior colours like PAL
>>3424203
More lines and perfect color reproduction? Much easier to convert movies from as well, some tiny speed compensation and you still retain the smoothness of the original. NTSC 3:2 pulldown is a seizure inducing nightmare unless you've been conditioned to it.
PAL itself doesn't seem worse for video games in theory, it's just shitty conversions that let it down.
What's a good retro rpg for someone new to the genre? i'm looking for something that isn't overly complicated, mainly short and in fact teaches me something so i can play another rpg's after it.
My only experience has been a bit with Chrono Trigger, which i played until getting to the future timeframe but my save got corrupted and i don't feel like playing all that starting path again for now.
In fact, if someone does a list of subsequent RPG's in order of length/complexity it should be pretty good.
I'm interested on 16-bit, GBA and maybe PS1 era (sprites preferred, for 3d i'll just play modern games)
>>3424185
I think DQ games are good for newcomers. Maybe 3 is a good compromise between length and mechanics. But i would recommend GBC's DQ II

How good is the PSP for playing emulators? Thinking about playing snes, genesis, n64, ps1, maybe some nes.
>>3424174
PS1 is fine, Genesis isn't far behind. N64
is a bit slow and isn't great.
SNES stands out as being complete garbage on the PSP. Even beginner games like SMW suffer from broken sound and graphics.
>>3424174
Good, not great. An excellent value though. Add the other anon said, if you're discerning you'll probably not play much n64 and even if you're not a lot of titles straight up won't run.
>>3424174
The best thing you can get out of it is perfect, portable PSX emulation. Beyond that? You're better off trying anything else.
