Holy shit. Just came across this pinball machine during my first playthrough of Parasite Eve II and it made me pretty excited, Einhander is one of my favorite game soundtracks ever.
Got any other retro easter eggs to share?

Great Easter Egg for an awesome game.

I wonder which items are collectable in that room.
https://smrandomizer.codeplex.com/
So I just finished my first run of super metroid randomizer and wondered if anyone on here has tried it out? It basically generates a SM rom where all items are randomized. All items are in the same location, but like, where you get the morph ball bombs you may get like, speed booster instead. I had a lot of fun with it, in the run I got my first item was the speed booster and super missiles, and basically went all the way to maridia without ever getting morph ball bombs. I never did find the ice beam or wave beam, but then I've never 100% Super Metroid so I'm not sure where every item is located. It's a really cool idea and an interesting way to breathe some new life into Super Metroid if you've beaten it numerous times.
>>3420528
Neat. I recommend checking out FF5AC if anyone hasn't, and FF6 Beyond Chaos Randomizer's Speed Cave. Both are good random fun.
Also ran, the Resident Evil PS1 randomizer. It's kinda neat, but turns the game into a pure combat/speedrun type thing. Gives you tons of ammo too.
>>3420528
What's the guarantee the game will even be beatable? I mean, if the items are dispersed truly randomly, there's should be a substantial chance an item needed to progress will be inaccessible.
>>3420528
Any other interesting/good romhacks? Because that sounds like it could be an issue.
Anyone else have problems emulating this with Fusion? I have the BIOS from the wiki, and it's been un-EMC'ed. I get to the SEGA start screen and after sonic throws the sparkles it freezes. what do besides kms?
>>3420519
>un-EMC'ed
Lemme guess, you have 1 bin file? You should have 4, and your .cue should look like this:
http://redump.org/disc/20699/
>>3420590
yes how did you know pls help me get to anime land sire
>>3420613
Because you had to "un-EMC" something. That's a hangover from when 700MBs was considered gigantic, really OLD rips.
One thing to try in Fusion is to turn on Perfect Sync in the options. I'm told it won't boot Popful past the sparkles without it.
If that doesn't work, then you need to find a better quality rip. Darkwater's should work, but if not then you need to go Redump.
Do you still play SMB?
>>3420086
every once in awhile, if my nes is hooked up.
it's p. fun.
>>3420086
I just played it two days ago, I still haven't gotten around to beating it. I can get to World 5 just fine but from then it's downhill, I don't have much practice with those later levels.
>>3420086
Somewhat often actually
What are /vr/'s thoughts on OpenXcom? Also, general X-Com thread, because why the fuck not.
What's the best settings/mods to use for a first playthrough? I'm afraid of fucking up the balance.
>>3420673
What is it with kids wanting to mod a game on their first fucking playthrough of it?
It's pathetic. PLAY IT LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE, FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
>>3420673
xcom doesn't really need any mods. I guess you could get the mod that makes managing your troops inventory easier but it isn't that big of a deal.
The only must have fix isn't even really a fix, you just need the right settings for DOSBOX to make the game run right. I think you can find them on the steam forums.
Also, lesser known games from popular developers thread.
I just remember the box art looking fucking awesome on display at Blockbuster, and then being disappointed that it was just a mediocre platformer.
>>3420038
haha, the box art is to a agreeable standard, but please - it's a blob. gelatinous blobs star in mediocre games. don't mention boy and his blob, that's about a boy.
>>3420053
Man, I didn't know any better. Look at that though, he's all FLYING and there's FIREBALLS and look at that CHICKEN! LOOK AT IT!
Is it possible old school games have terrible interfaces because the developers hated normies and didn't want them playing their games/with their toys?
>>3419943
No, they just fucking hate you.
>>3419943
what
it's pretty okay interface
>>3419943
What is in your opinion wrong with this interface?
Dunno if it's been posted here already, but Game Boy Color is getting a new game in 2016:

Infinity, an RPG with some pretty cool visual and sound effects for a GBC game. Originally meant to be released in 2001, it was canceled due to the GBA pushing away publishers. It's finally going to be revived for a digital ROM release this year by the original devs.
Official site: http://affinix.com/ (Hasn't been updated in almost a decade, though.)
interesting, trying to figure out how the battle system works from the gameplay vids
dialogue seems decent
thanks for the heads up OP
Someone provided me the ripped sound data from this game a while back and I recorded some of it from a real DMG. Been meaning to record the whole soundtrack, but just didn't get around to it.
The soundtrack is pretty fucking sweet, the shitty emulated 64kbps recordings they have on their official site don't do it justice. Maybe I should go back and finish up that recording since people will probably want it now.
Just think, had this been released we might have had another Shantae on our hands, in the $100+ game sense.
>used to emulate without scanline filters and hated them
>now can't stand emulating without them
Anyone else know this feeling?
>>3419664
No, not really.
Whats so good about scanlines and emulating them?
>>3419664
>not just using a crt
>>3419806
Without scanlines colors are much more intense than they're supposed to be
I played this game today for the first time
It is fucking amazing! what's your thoughts on it, /vr/?
Yes, it's pretty good.
The only part I dislike is the memory puzzle.

This is the best track

Way better than sonic, he should have been sega's mascot.
Arcade cab building suggestions?
I'm trying to find a plan that isn't overly complicated for something like a sit-down candycab (or just a box that you put on a table)
The electronics are the easy part for me. It's cutting wood and all the shit involved with assembly. Everytime I look for plans they are behind a pay wall or something stupid.
Any /vg recommended plans or resources? I might go LCD over a RGB monitors due to size and weight constraints.
>>3419590
If i be you, ill be very satisfied with these comfy japanese cabinets, tough yours its only 4 buttons.........hey you can buy a MVS multicart and you are all set!

Wood is wood, man. It's pretty much something to house a screen and controls. Make a cube or something first if you're not confident. Or you could do this >>3419937
Master Sonic 2 > Mega Sonic 2
Spindash ruined the Sonic series.
>>3419584
Americanizing it deliberately, ruined the sonic series.
>>3419591
Sonic was always inspired by America.
8 bit S2 is pretty good but you're wrong
I remember playing this gem with my dead back when I was a kid, a good two decades ago. Got it from gog a couple days ago, thinking I'm going to breeze through it for nostalgia's sake...
>REEEEEEEEEEEEE, WHY IS THE COMBAT SO HARD
Playing on medium, seriously getting my ass kicked pretty much every fight. Savescumming not only before every nook and corner, but also multiple times in the middle of combat, and that's just fighting the regular guards in blue armor near the start of the game. I have no idea how I managed to get through this as a kid.
>>3419416
really great gem, i loved the space atmosphere and most importantly those alien enemies with spears that would rip your body apart if you weren't good enough. the final boss was awesome, loved how you had to slash at its stomach to finish it off
>>3419416
>I remember playing this gem with my dead
but anon, that was exhumed.
>>3419435
A slight slip there, but my dad is indeed dead, unfortunately.
Can we have a thread about the best console roguelike of all time?
If you've only played the PS2/Wii version, you are still welcome for discussion since the story and gameplay are near identical.
Myself, I finished the PS2 game a while back, but I recently just started on the PS1 version (playing it on my vita alongside LSD: Dream Emulator -- great combination by the way), and boy is it incredible. The music and sound design are just so much better, and it's legitimately scary at times. The breathing of your character when you get down to 30HP sounds like somebody's sawing your character in half.
It's a proper survival horror roguelike, and it has the most in-depth gameplay of any console roguelike I've ever played to back it up.
And lastly, has anyone actually played Baroque Syndrome? Is there anything actually worthwhile about it, or should I try and find the manga instead? I'm really curious about this one.
I really wish Sting could return to making odd genre exercises like this or innovative stuff like Knights in the Nightmare. The Wii remake doesn't quite cut it for me, but OG Baroque is great.
