>Mega Racers
do you mean MegaRace (which also had a sequel, webm related) or was Mega Racers a different game

Has anybody done a challenge run of Super Mario RPG? I recently beat the game only using Mario, Mallow and Geno and only gave them Special upgrades but I was still able to steam roll most enemies. Now I'm thinking of doing a run that's a little more challenging like :
-No Armor
-No HP Upgrade
-No Leveling Glitch (Star Abuse)
-No Weapons (Not sure how hard this will make the game)

Are there any other things I should add to the list? I don't want the game to be so hard that I can only make a little progress each couple hours of playing and constantly dying. I did find a few threads on GameFAQs but they looked a little too hard for me, like staying below level 5, no items except Mushrooms etc....

What do you think?

No flower upgrades? In other words only 20 FP.

A cap on FP would be interesting. My plan is to only upgrade Attack power and mainly use normal attacks or mario's single Jump attack.

Beat it with just mario and peach M8

Do you miss the kind of game UI where they used the host platform's standard widgets (buttons, windows, checkboxes, etc.)? Those games would often use MDI, too, which felt pretty comfy for some reason.

Just so you guys know, Retrobright and colored plastics are a bad mix. I found it actually speeds up the deterioration of the pigments instead of just reversing the discoloration. Only use it on white and light gray playstics. I had to order replacement switches for my NES but now hopefully I've saved one of you from making the same mistakes.

My SNES deck still has a treatment session or two to go before I put it back together. Things look promising so far although I'm not quite expecting a 100% return to the original color. We'll see. I've also got an NES that I need to get coated and out in the sun.

I hit a bit of a snag with my Castlevania 3 reproduction today. I got my pin adapter in the mail from Ali Express, but it looks nothing like the one that the seller had listed, and it's a lot less space efficient. There's no way I can make this thing fit inside the cartridge with the Madara PCB. I guess I will have to pay a jacked up price on eBay for the one I actually need.

This bigger one might at least be useful for some testing, though, and it might be useful later for another conversion or a custom converter pack, so I'll hang on to it.

Why can't GameBoy Colors have backlight mods? All I ever see are frontlight mods, which don't look as good.

First of all I should explain why Gameboy and Gamboy Pocket *can* have backlight mods-- the reflector that makes the screen visible in daylight is just a sticker, which can be easily peeled off and replaced with a backlight panel. That is essentially the idea behind Gameboy backlight mods.

In the case of the GBC, unfortunately, Nintendo changed their manufacturing process. The reflector is no longer a sticker on the back of the screen, but instead is actually sealed inside of the glass of the LCD panel. It's impossible to take the LCD glass apart without destroying it, so backlight mods for the GBC are impossible. The best you'll ever be able to do with the screen is a decent looking frontlight mod.

If your heart is really set on a backlit GBC then the closest you can get for now is the GB Boy Colour. Obviously, that comes with some tradeoffs, like the somewhat goofy looking bootleg aesthetic, the lack of a Nintendo logo, and the incorrect aspect ratio screen which in some ways gives the illusion of being smaller even though it's the same diagonal size.

In theory someone like McWill could create a backlit replacement LCD for the GBC, however given the cramped space inside the GBC's case, getting an extra board containing a scaler chip and RAM modules to fit inside might be a bit of an impossibility. Maybe if the guts of the GBC were moved inside of a DMG case it would work, which in theory is possible, although it would likely be an expensive and very labor-intense mod to perform, assuming there's even a market for such a thing.

For now a front light or the GB Boy Colour are your best bets. An it's not even that the GB Boy Colour is a bad handheld-- it's just got some quirks you will have to get used to, and it's as cheap as an unmodded GBC anyway.

So I'm at college right now kicking out some credit hours early for cheap and I brought my gameboy with Doom, Doom II, and Wing Comander Prophecy.

They're fun games, but I wound up with zero time to play them.

For whatever reason my grade in math is based on time rather than work, so I have to do 45 hours of math a week just to get an A.
