Let's talk about some old school fighting games, the good and the bad.
>>3385567
I miss the motion blurring in old sprites. Technically, even Tekken 6 had it, but it doesn't look anywhere near as good
>>3386726
Another one
>>3385567
As for the mains, I only play KoF'98/2002 these days. Usually I go with Kyo, Benimaru, Terry, Kim and K'.
Glad Karin is back in SFV, she used to be my favorite character in SFA3. Somewhat similar to Kyo, but as if it was a bad thing.
What would /vr/ games have been like if developers were able to offer post-launch patches and DLC like in modern games?
>>3416329
Bug fixes and more "rom hack" style games like Lost Levels.
Also, extra lives as micro-transactions, like in arcades.
But they did.
They wouldn't had been retro games.
SNES vs. PSX
Which was the better system for RPGs?
It's a tough call for me
SNES had Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Dragon Quest Remakes, FF6, Terranigma, Fire Emblem 4 etc
PSX had FF7, Suikoden II, Xenogears, Tales of Eternia, FF Tactics, Tactics Ogre etc
I think I'd personally go with SNES although the PSX has a lot of amazing RPGs as well.
before some austistic imbecile complain about psx, let's get started.
the SNES had some amazing RPGs, like final fantasy II and III (IV and VI), chrono trigger, earthbound... and many others.
But it was ignored by the japs that didn't bother to translate any dragon quest or many other amazing games.
the playstation marked the birth of the RPGs in the US. Now there was a market, so they explored it.
Every final fantasy was released for the PS, except for 3. Even chrono trigger with stupid loading times and videos! The lunar ports! I mean, every collector has those stupid gigantic boxes on display.
Final fantasy tactics and arc the lad were born on the PS.
And they even got exclusive series, like wild arms, suikoden, grandia, persona, vagrant story.
And their own 100 hour dragon warrior vii, that everyone think that they can finish quickly, until they realise that the whole game is a series of mandatory sidequests.
anyways, they are my 2 favorite consoles ever. the PS wins in RPGs.
>>3411335
Overall, I'd say the PS1 was better for RPGs, but at the same time, there are SNES RPGs I can't live without.
What was your reaction when you got to Zeal for the first time?
>>3410163
I was zealous
>>3410163
I thought it was overrated
Let us pay respect to the greatest RTS ever graced to mankind.
The fact that Cataclysm wasn't included in the remaster due to missing source code is a travesty. The story was at least as good as the original in a different way.
This game is really good for RTS begginers because there is no terrain or buildings just units.
The graphics have aged better than any other 1999 game.
A common misconception about the singleplayer campaign of Homeworld is that the size of the enemy fleets in each mission scales to the size of your own fleet at the end of the last level.
Actually it is affected by how many units you lost in the last mission. If have a tiny fleet and you don't lose any units then the enemy fleet will be full size.
If you didn't use a single unit and then you ordered your research ship to self destruct then the enemy fleet will be smaller.
Overall fleet scaling was minor in the first game.
Cataclysm had the difficulty setting decide the fleet size.
Homeworld 2 had fucked up scaling that punished you for doing well to the point that some later levels were impossible to complete unless you self destructed half your fleet at the end of the previous level.
ITT: We lie about our gaming accomplishments.
I beat Legacy of the Wizard without the use of a guide or any other outside help.
>>3414795
I found all the Mario games interesting enough that I played through them.
I have beaten a retro game in the past 3 years.;_;
I did this all without trading or glitching.

The only good thing about the NES Mini is that we might get a SNES Mini.
There's nothing good about that either.

Thanks OP, i've been waiting for this for a long time.
Any word on those Megaman X/Zero fanmade games?
So, how do I play it? As a regular GBC rom?
downloading it right now
Broodwar is BACK baby! Koreans have gone back to playing BW. Big tournaments, some of the best players in the world. With Nick "Tasteless" Plott giving English commentary.
Come watch classic Starcraft Brood War.

>>3407787
They got tired from SC2?
Kinda happy to hear that. I remember how people saddened by decrease of active SC:BW players.
>>3407812
Blizzard forced KESPA's hand to remove BW because they wanted to promote II. But now they've been slowly re-introducing BW for about a year now. It's just a much better game.
sc2 was such an abject failure that even blizzard gave up, kek. At least BW HD will have a small following
Any Retro games with motherfucking Cthulu?
>>3405495
no because lovecraft was a literal aspie and cthulhu is tumblr tier
>>3405495
Maybe
Shadow of the Comet.
Also Quake 2 had Shub-Niggurath
>licenses that aren't being used but you wished you had access to
As a game dev, this really sucks. Bomberman, Heretic, and some other lost IPs just sitting in the dust.
>>3405409
Couldnt you form a team build the game to completion then just drop it on a torrent and release the link here? The only games that get shut down are the ones with publicity and websites showing progress. If no one knows about it until its too late, whats going to happen?
;_;>
>>3405436
I want to make money from it and give me credibility to make more games with other licenses. It's a good resume.
Most of us have owned magazines, eh? Which were your favorites?
Post covers, artwork, articles, ads, etc.
OH BOY, MOM AND DAD ARE GONNA TAKE YOU TO BLOCKBUSTER
What awesome game are you gonna renting today?
>tfw I was never taken to a video store
>>3401898
A few Blockbuster stories for you
The games I've rented repeatedly were ACME Animation Studios on SNES and Army Men on N64.
One time my friend convinced me that the Barbie game on NES had a nude mode, so I convinced my mom to let me rent it. It was awful and did not have pixelated tits. My mom thought I was fucked in the head for the longest time.
I remember seeing Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak for sale NIB for like $5...
>>3401908
Also, not related to Blockbuster, but my roomate once had Nintendo Stadium Events with 2 pads. Traded it into FuncoLand (bought out by GameStop) for $40. Balls.
Hi /vr/. I've never played a Castlevania game, and I want to get into the series after hearing so much praise about its gameplay and whatnot.
Here's the dilemma. I have a recently modded Wii, and after doing some research, I found that there was re-make of the original game on WiiWare. Castlevania: The Adventure Re-Birth.
What do you think of this game? Should I play this to start my adventure into the franchise? Also, what other Castlevania games would you recommend for me to get into on my modded Wii? I feel overwhelmed with the amount of games I now have access to.
Thanks /vr/.
>>3415646
Play Rondo. I'm pretty sure you can pirate the virtual console version.
Also the originals on the nes. And Super Castlevania IV. Rondo is fairly easy so it's a good entry level game.
Before this turns into another CV shitposting thread, let me advice you to just play the series in order and form your own opinion.
Play the Castlevania 1 for NES, it's the basis of the whole series and is still a great game to play.
From there, move forward, they're all pretty much great games, you can skip Castlevania II if you don't like it but I advice you to at least try it, if only to hear Bloody Tears for the first time in its original version.
>>3415674
