I have fond, hazy memories of this game from my childhood and I've taken an interest in it recently. Are these good games? Which one is the best? How can I get hold of it seeing as it is not on GoG or Steam?
>>3414774
They're pretty good games. Jazz plays like a mishmash of several different styles of platformers.
You can snag them all online from archive sites by just googling the name. You'll probably need yo use DOSbox but I'm sure if you do a bit digger deeping you'll find an easy way to set it all up.
>>3414774
I'd say it's one of the best platformers for DOS, although that's not saying alot since DOS isn't really much for platformers. For the first game, DOSBos should work fine for it, but there's also OpenJazz for if you want to try some shenanigans (though last I heard the physics were wonky). For the second game you might try JJ2+.
Also, Tubelectric

I only played the second game so I didn't realize that this song had two versions. I'm not sure which of them should be considered the best but after listening to both versions I think I prefer the first one slightly.
How could they make all the original Pokemon R/B/Y and G/S/C sound so beautiful?
Gen 1-2 are painful to my ears

It's a little abrasive anon. It most likely attempts to compensate for the GB's abysmal speakers.
Nice tune tho
Is playing Earthbound with one hand really feasible?
You can play everything with one hand.
Yes but you can't cancel (B button).
L button works as A.
I never tried to see if Select works as B though.
if you play on an emulator using a Playstation controller, easily.
This game is tedious and boring. I'm at the part where you get the airship.

Welcome to literally every JRPG. They're all this bad.
>tedious
youre not using only berserkers, are you?
We had a topic about this on /v/ early so I wanted to see what ya'll thought.
Any other examples of games that just completely ruined the aesthetic with the remake?
The problem with remakes is the original vision isn't there 99.9% of the time, simply because the original talent isn't there. It's hard to come up with a fun and original video game, but any schmoe can be hired to hash out a game that already has a complete template. This is why I can't stomach most remakes. Of course there are a tiny few exceptions, but those are few and far between.
Although I agree with most of it, that picture is very nitpicky.
Typically /vr/ consoles provide very large leaps in the next generation as far as graphical horsepower goes so it's very difficult to screw up a game's aesthetics so hard that not even the upgraded resolution/colors can make up for it. Off the top of my head I can't think of any remakes that have graphics worse than the previous game.

The GBA Donkey Kong Country graphics are especially garbage despite being more advanced.
God damn there's a lot of extra scenes in the console version.

Is she eating a cockroach?

She says she was about to eat it by hyonu said don't.
For the Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia players:
Do any of you have an idea of what the point was for that "resting" thing?
http://www.kidfenris.com/2012/11/little-things-quintets-saving-grace.html
I found this article which tries to give an explanation, but what do you all think?
When you stop playing, the entire world of the game itself sleeps, because it only lives when you play it.
Soul Blazer is my favorite of the three.
>>3414020
>Illusion of Gaia, which may be Quintet’s best-known effort.
Was it actually well known? It's always the one I forget about.
Since the Olympics are on, what are some of the best games? All I know is pic related and Winter Games for NES.
Other sports games welcome too.
Winter gold is cool I like the graphics style and music
Winter Games was better than Summer Games but Summer Games still deserved wider release

had so much fun playing this one with my siblings and cousins growing up
Are any of the USB SNES controllers worth looking into? I just have a 360 controller right now and it feels weird when I'm playing SNES/GBA games.
>>3413786
I've heard good things about buffalo ones
>>3413786
The iBuffalo controllers are very good quality. I own 4.
>>3413786
I'm playing AM2R with this right now, Fusion control scheme. It's as close to an actual SNES controller as you can get. Outstanding.
Can we have a sound thread? Alternatively, (or additionally) can we have "how stuff worked" thread?
In particular, can we have a SNES sound thread? I'd like to know more about how it worked.
What I have:
- 8 voices
- 16-bit precision
- 32 KHz sample rate
- used a Sony SPC700 processor and a DSP... of some sort, can't find anything on it
What I'm looking for:
- Is this information accurate?
- Does the 32 KHz sample rate have any practical difference from the modern standard of 44.1 KHz?
- What are the voices (or what can they be)?
(Meanwhile I know the 5 voices of the NES and I'm sure I could fairly easily find its sample rate and how it produced noise and dealt with PCM because "whooo NES 8-bit etc.")
>>3413743
>What are the voices (or what can they be)?
It's sample-based, so effectively anything.
What do we now about the Playstation's and Saturn's soundchips. Can't find much on the PS1's.

>>3413829
seriously? there's no wave generators? does it do FM?
...hmm, I just looked again at a doc I found, it says each voice/channel is assigned a track, and the tracks together make a pattern, and a string of patterns makes a song
If this is true it's unfortunate for me; it would seem there isn't any unifying hardware setup that creates a "Super Nintendo sound" like there is for the NES and some other systems, which I was hoping to replicate.
Are there any other (affordable) CRTs besides Sony PVMs that have RGB input? Preferably around 20" and less cause I don't have the space or muscle for anything above that.
>>3413702
yes lots. you just have to look. JVC, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Ikegami, Nec, Commodore Amiga, Proscan. I have even seen european tvs with scart in america that people imported.
For $50 plus $10 for the audio breakout adapter you can buy a "SCART-to-YUV" transcoder that will let you use RGB SCART cables on the dirt-cheap US consumer TVs with "component" input.

Is this shit really worth it
Was looking for RPG to play on Vita. Came across this but never got to play it. How does it compare to FF 7 / 8? Does it have a lot of content (i.e. sidequests)?
Basically debating between this or FF8. What would you choose /vr/?
It's awful. For all its flaws, FF8 blows it out of the water.
Never trust anyone who tells you Legend of Dragoon is worth playing. It's an unfun slog.
The game was mediocre. Youre not missing anything by not playing it. Just youtube the game and see what you think.
Get FF9
Name a better retro console than the SEGA Dreamcast.
Protip: you can't.
>>3413218
I owned both and I got more enjoyment out of the Saturn's library. Dreamcast didn't really have anything that held my attention apart from PSO.
SNES, Mega Drive, Saturn, NES
>>3413232
What did you like more about the Saturn that held your attention?
Why are old games so expensive? Shouldn't they be bottom of the barrel $5? I hate how resellers jack up the price for fucking video games. It's worse that people accept their prices.
>>3412731
0/10
>>3412731
Some old games have always been more than others and I accept that, but in general I agree. The problem is the newfag influx. Newbies ruin EVERYTHING - see 4chan. And I'm being dead serious. If you started "collecting" any type of old games within the past, say, 5 years, you are the problem.
>>3412742
I'm not a collector really. I just buy games i wanna play for consoles that have poor emulation support like Saturn, Dreamcast, N64 and Xbox HUEG. I don't like having to pay $60 bucks for a working cart of Paper Mario.
All right, I've fallen into /vr/ memes and bought the ultimate gaming system (guess which).
Should I get Ethernet adapter?
Your favorite games?
Also, thread.
>>3412701

Cool, it's almost like an upgrade so your Dreamcast can play DVDs
>>3412701
Just don't buy Shenmue. That game is insufferable shit garbage for degenerate dumpster people. Get Jet Set Radio.
>>3412720
>Just don't buy Shenmue
It's too late, I bought the console with backuped Shenmue.
