Thinking about ordering a GPD XD RK3288 for game emulation and other Android options. $160 off Amazon and the reviews are looking good. I thought about picking up a PSP-3000, but in my area they are going for $100 easily, and this seems to be able to go way up to PS2 games and be a lot more expandable. Anyone got one? Any thoughts?
Never heard of it, but it looks pretty solid to me. I would imagine a lot of games would be better played on a big screen, but it looks like a decent portable option. My main concern would be build quality in the long-term.
you'd better go for a vita and henkaku

I have it.
I really like how it's done.
no gps or camera though, and a few chinese shovelware preinstalled (just uninstall them first).
Did any of you guys have Sega Channel? I always wanted it as a kid but could never convince my parents to get it.
my cousins had it. their parents (my aunt and uncle) spoke very well of it, and were very disappointed when it was discontinued
I used a free trial. Worked great. What a cool idea.
One of my childhood friends had it at one point. I believe I saw him play the Wily Wars version of MegaMan 3 on it.

You have falled OP.
I tried getting Soul-Calibur 2 in FFIX once. I was one hour late, then I realized there was a trick to skip FMVs and that I was playing on a lower PAL version, which means I would totally have gotten it in the real version of the game.
There's a button code for invincibility, you know.
>Spend $40 or so for n64 game called Starshot Space circus because the $50 and $60 is just over my budget.
>Regret not paying the extra $10-20 for a quality game because Starshot fucking sucks balls.
What's your favourite Mario clone? I would say Giana Sisters because it's the one that feel closer to the original game. Hard 'n Heavy was nice too, but only the C64 version, the Amiga port feels weird.

My favurit mario clone is sanic
Well...Can Kid Chameleon be considered a Mario clone?
BROS for the Atari 8 Bit is...interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4shac02_ks

Gradius III™ on SNES is a blast to play. It kicks everyone's ass. Gradius III™ on SNES is arguably superior to the arcade version. It has an incredible OST and is super far-out.
Fun game I've had since childhood. Still haven't been able to beat it because you pretty much have to 1cc it. Compared to other horizontal shmups, it's shortcomings are noticeable. Darius Force is my go-to horizontal.
The slowdown makes it a chore in some places, but it's a much more reasonable game than the notoriously difficult arcade version. That said, I do still find the arcade version an interesting game, and its hardcore players are amazing.
Has anyone made a Pi-based emulator box? Looking to make this exact one once a better guide is out...or if anyone has any alternatives. Looking to play all consoles up to N64 era which the Pi 3 handles no problem

I absolutely hate the names of these, but these are excellent guides. I am going to make a variation of one in the near future, changing the name obviously

i guess i'll use the raspberry as a home theatre/nas
Dead?
>>3422365
For now.
Yes. Metroid killed him.
Yes. And it should stay dead.
Nintendo isn't very well in the head nowadays and I don't a Master of Disguise 2.0.
Is it my imagination, or do you miss more often if you push buttons while attacking?
This isn't Super Mario RPG, so why would you even do that?
>>3422370
Because I just want to keep attacking so I keep pressing the A button. Or I used to until I noticed it makes me miss more.
>>3422373
Be more scientific. Run some experiments and record your results. You'll probably find it's just an internal bias rather than a real effect; however, it would be really interesting if it's true.
What's the best Monkey Island game and which version?
>>3422315
> The Secret of Monkey Island
Most charming, best puzzles.
The original EGA version is the one to play for extra animations, less smudgy visuals and the original minimalistic flava. The versions remade with CD Audio and 256 color graphics are fine though
> LeChuck's Revenge
Best detail, atmosphere, story and freedom (and awesome endgame)
Any version will do, they're all nearly identical (but not every version has a "lite" puzzles mode)
If you must have voice acting, the Special Editions of the first two in "classic mode" will do nicely
> Curse of Monkey Island
Great production values in general, and OK game overall; more than worth playing, but definitely not the best
>>3422315
The atmosphere of MI2 is incredible, few things come anywhere close. Maybe Donkey Kong Country 2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjR8NO4fL6s
The new editions suck. 1991 LeChuck's Revenge is the best adventure game in history, and will be for decades.
>>3422434
>The original EGA version is the one to play for extra animations
And extra stuff that was later cut like the stump joke. Also, that delicious AdLib and MT-32 music. Did I mention dat Mark Ferrari's dithering?
I want to play Final Fantasy 1 and 2 but I've heard that (as good as they may be) the NES versions are not the most user friendly and the PlayStation /GBA remakes updated the gameplay mechanics to be more in line with what people expect from JRPGs.
Is this true? I know there will be purists who will baulk at the idea of playing anything else but the original versions. Are the remakes the best way to play these games?
The final fantasy origins version is just fine, but if you really want to play the NES version look into this rom hack
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1631/
>>3422115
Don't play the NES version of FF1. A lot of the mechanics don't work as intended or are plain broken and almost none are beneficiary.
PS1 are closer to the NES versions
GBA are easy mode (which is good for II but bad for I imo)
Who Keitai Denjuu Telefang here? Aka Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Jade.

Overrated Trash or Brilliant Masterpiece?
>>3421960
In most regards it's a masterpiece.
Also, I have no idea how they managed to give some run down military base in Alaska one of the best atmospheres of any game.
Is it still worth playing this game today?
to me it was amazing when I played it as a kid and I still love it, my favourite in the series by far
I remember feeling really down during sniper wolf's and gray fox's deaths
not much replay value for me though (that goes for most mgs games I played)
I do remember not being crazy about certain parts of the game (reheating the card, finding the sniper, endless stairs with guards)
Why the fuck did it take almost a decade for someone to come up with such an obvious design?
Because physical button addons for smartphones have so little support that nobody wants to invest in making a high quality one.
Cause its shit design. Handhelds dont need to be in two fucking parts. Ds and 3ds get a pass cause they fold, but they still are not as ergonomic as any gameboy or psp or vita. Someone needs to make a case you slide your phone into, buttons on each side and a hole for the screen
>>3421939
There are controllers like that already.
How come Sonic 1 & 2 on Master System were drastically different than the Genesis versions?
Sonic 1 had some of the Genesis zones and replaced some with new ones, and Sonic 2 had no spin dash and had none of the Genesis zones.
Well MS can't run Sonic properly, so they made two great games with its expects in mind instead of two crappy straight ports, seems like a good move to me. They're designed more like traditional platformers MS can handle.
>>3421871
>expects

I'd rather have unique games than ports, OP.
How do so many people here have 240p RGB CRTs? I can barely find any that have RGB, and the ones that do are huge and 480p. How are you finding so many big CRTs with 240p AND RGB input. Is it just that they're older CRTs? (Stupid question but) is there some way to change the resolution of a CRT from 480 to 240 because I'm seeing a lot of pictures of 240p games being run pixel-perfectly on large TVs that I'm surprised manage to have that low of a resolution as well as RGB.
>>3421791
Older CRTs are all over the place. I got mine at a yard sale for 30 bucks.
>>3421791
>How do so many people here have 240p RGB CRTs? I can barely find any that have RGB, and the ones that do are huge and 480p.
What have you found that is exclusively 480p? AFAIK, just about any PVM will do 240p.
>>3422505
Or are you confusing RGB with Component? Either way, there's a CRT thread for this
