I downloaded a complete genesis romset the other day. Thunder Force 2 and 3 don't work, and 4 is obviously hacked because it asks if I want to start with unlimited lives when I start it up. Never played the real version, need to download it from somewhere else

Neo Geo has decidedly more powerful 2D specs but there are more 3rd party titles available on Saturn. Neo Geo IS 2D arcade hardware while the Saturn runs ports of arcade games. They're good for the time, but they're still ports.

I'd say the AES due to carts (no load times).

But Saturn has a better library.

Not even close. Excuse the pun, but Saturn runs rings around the AES.

The only advantage AES has is fast cartridges that data can be quickly streamed off without the system needing much RAM.

I've only played Paperboy 2 but it's one of my favorite SNES games. Love how you can vandalize the non-subscribers without penalty. You can even drop a car on someone and they will stay subscribed, just don't break their windows

I really wanted to be good at the arcade version when I was little but I sucked then I killed myself to become mediocre at the NES version. I got the Genesis version and quickly became a beast. It made me feel good but I suspect it was just easier and all the arcade versions had vanished by then so I was never able to put it to the test.

ALl the classic mega mans are worth playing, but there's a noticeable drop in quality starting with 4.

X1 is the best of the X games, and each entry afterward gets exponentially worse than the last.

You didn't miss much. I've got a similar one though. I was afraid of the over the shoulder Bellsprout sprite because I thought it looked too unnatural. Convinced myself that it was weak anyway and I didnt need to bother using it.

If I recall correctly D2 does run in 800 x 600 mode, though with 640 by 480 still available. And D1 is straight up just a better game in my opinion, so there.

The other Irem beat 'em ups were arcade only too, except for Undercover Cops which had a watered down SFC port.

Huge fan of the Exile games, although I didn't like the Avernum remakes/updates so much.

Could never really get into Geneforge. I can't put my finger down on something I don't like about it, but it just never really caught my interest.

I think that some of the fan made Blades of Exile games (in particular, the ones made by Alcritas) are legitimately in the top 10 CRPGs ever. Maybe I'm nuts, but I would put Falling Stars ahead of any game in the Ultima series.

I loved the two first Exile games, but never could get into the third. The fact you have a limited time to do the main quest kinda ruined it to me.

Never tried the newer ones, though.
