>mfw AGDQ is happening and there's not a single speedrunning thread in sight
>>3736398
Agreed
>>3736398
Came here to post this.
>>3736398
Speedrunning is fine, AGDQ however is fucking cancer.
It's been a long day, /vr/. Let's hit the /vr/ showers
I hope no silly FBI agent interrupts my shower
>showers
>not sitting in your own filth
>not sitting in soup made of old Japanese men
filthy casuals
In your humble opinion, what are some of the best under the radar shmups ever made? excluding next gen stuff of course
Bari-Arm
Robo Aleste
I really like Geki-Oh but if I'm honest it's largely unspectacular.
>>3736065
Donpatch isn't under-the-radar, you retard.
can /vr/ shed any light on if you can turn one of these into a phone these days.
Hacking, Cracking, modding, anything Goes....
It started out as a phone and can still be used as one assuming "2g" (HSCSD) is still active in your area. It was literally just shut down in my area like a week ago.
If you want to know what software you can run on it the OS it uses is Symbian S60. There are a LOT of increasingly obscure games for it as well as emulators for first through fourth gen consoles
This ain't retro, friend
>>3735793
If we count Symbian as a platform it would be. This is one of those derailing arguments though and as much as I'd like to help preserve and build interest in Symbian and Java games, it's probably best if we keep the discussion to N-Gage as an emulation platform.
How would you save the Metroid franchise?
Wrong board m8. Cheers.
Making a game like Super Metroid, but >>3735652 is right
>>3735648
Take the Super Metroid engine, polish it to a mirror sheen, take Samus' sprite and make it a series of components for flawless animation, and put it on Steam with extensive creation tools.
Which art style/character designs do you prefer?
Mônica's
>>3735634
The remake's. Respectful of the original yet not afraid to improve where there is room to do so.
New Hawk-Man looks better
Mouse-Men are about equal
Old Lizard-Man and old Lion-Man were better
Old Piranha-Man was FAR better.
I think the new artstyle and animation looks great, and the backgrounds look gorgeous, the character designs/sound design not so much.
I wonder what regular Hu-man Bocke will look like. It seems they're basing this on the TG16 version, so he probably won't have green hair, but they're taking minimal inspiration from the classic team's artistic vision, so he may not look like he does in the GG artwork. In the old days every illustrator had their own version of Bocke for all the ports of his 3 games, up until the definitive design in the MWIII manual and later MWII on the GG, it will be fun to see another version of him.
What are some weird/trippy/"screwed up" games?
pic related is Weird Dreams, which came with a ton of lore and story. it's frustratingly hard, but has a ton of lore in it and great production values for an Amiga game.
Other games I can think of are:
> Cool World (just shown on AGDQ)
> Garage: Bad Dream Adventure
> Eversion (if you're planning to play this, do it blind, don't spoil yourself)
the Inca series
Is that uyuni?
>>3735835
Coktel Vision had a bunch of weird stuff in general.
I've never played a Megaman game besides II before, but i really want to get into it after all the fun i had with similar games. problem is, there's just so many games that i don't know where to start.
I know the Classic series has 10 games spanning over the NES, SNES, Playstation, and downloads, but that's it.
How many games are in Megaman X? Battle Network? Star Force?
Which games are good? which ones should I avoid?
What's up with Megaman Zero, what's that all about? Why does Zero have giant green lightbulb tits? And most important of all, why doesn't anyone bring it up?
>>3734523
Well, 10 games besides Megaman & Bass and Wily Wars, sorry. I forgot
You already know the different serieseseses so that's good.
Just go in release order, budinski.
>>3734530
yeah but that's literally all i know; that they exist. How many games are there in each series?
DL3 best kirby game
>>3734364
Nah.
>>3734364
Super Star or gtfo.
>>3734364
Not while Superstar exists. It is criminally underrated though.
Nevermind if 6th gen should be allowed here, the real quest is should our board-tan be redesigned? /vr/ just doesn't seem to match up anymore with the helpful cool dude persona of Tre/vr/
>>3733628
True true
If you have a problem with it Tre/vr/ just needs to be deepened somewhat.
Nobody can be berated constantly for what he knows in his heart to be the only true path without developing a little defensiveness
>>3733628
tre/vr/ is an inspiration for all of us.
Release date: 1993
Name: Vision
Cost: $499 USD
Vision would be a purely CD based 16 bit console, albeit with 24 bit color like the Neo Geo (though not as powerful in other ways, to keep cost down)
It would ship with a mouse, and the library would have a lot of RTS and point and click adventure games as a consequence.
Both the mouse and the controller would be wireless via RF, the controller would have two analogue sticks for twin stick shooters (another big chunk of its library) and games would come in standard CD sized jewel cases.
There would be an outright ban on developing any FMV based games for it.
>>3733402
Release date: 1992
Name: Dick Puncher
Cost: $299
Punches OP in the dick.
SNES with CD support
LJN Funtendo
3 button controller
2.5 inch 16 color LCD
800KB floppy drive
On/off indicator light
High quality RF output
Monster World
ITT: bad games liked only by you
People don't even seem to like it in a "it's so bad it's good" way. The plot is surprisingly high concept for the time too, it's a shame it got treated the way it did, NES graphics aside.
Everyone seems to hate this game for being too difficult to understand but its super comfy to fly around in 8 bit space.
More people than me probably like this game, but whatevs. I have too many great memories associated with playing it, and the music and graphics are pretty fuckin' great for the Genesis. Better pre-rendered 3D than DKC in my opinion. And really the gameplay isn't the worst. It's just not anything like a Sonic game.
I feel like if this game had been based on an original IP, people would like it more, and it would be one of those quirky, late-system games with a cult following and a semi-high price nowadays.
Let's talk about the brilliant NEC PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16. What are your favorite games? Hidden gems? Recent pickups? Replaced caps?
>>3730985
Bonk yo
lol I mean what do you want? It's so prolific but also 90% Japanese exclusive it's like a Sega Saturn that was at market for a decade.
>>3730985
Recently picked up coryoon with a bunch of other games. Game is really a lot of fun. Better than I thought it would be. Got it with a bunch of other games including ninja spirit which kinda underwhelmed. A lot of my friends said it was one of the best games on the system so maybe I had my hopes up? Gotta play it some more. It was def good tho.
Also wife got a me a duo-r for xmas since my pc engine's graphics chip decided to commit suicide.
>>3730985
Neutopia/Neutopia II were fantastic Legend of Zelda clones/ripoffs.
Gradius for PCE was really good.
Magical Chase is both an excellent side-scrolling SHMUP and has one of the best soundtracks on the system.
I haven't played on a real PCE in over 7 years - I sold all of my collected systems for various reasons.
I'm a fan of playing games on their original hardware - to the point where I play PS1 games on a PS1, not a PS2. Having said that, I have two questions:
1. Would it be worthwhile for me to get an original Game Boy in order to play original Game Boy games?
2. What are the more obscure must-have titles? I know about Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land, Kirby's Dreamland, etc.
It's worthwhile, the classic gameboy dot matrix screen with green background is pretty iconic and GB games were made with it in mind.
>>3728305
If you like authenticity than play on an OG. If you can, play it on a super gameboy. It plays at a different clock speed than the original, but some games add some colors when played on it.
>>3728305
As much as I love the DMG, I highly recommend the GB Pocket instead. The screen is radical, and the Pocket is iconic in its own way; Pokemon was designed for it after all.
