How do I make the rerelease of Final Fantasy IX look... not terrible? I was gifted it by a friend, so I feel obligated to try this version rather than emulating the PS1 version.
The models and cutscenes look great, but the backgrounds seem to be the original PS1 versions with a godawful bilinear filter over them. Does anyone know how to make this look a bit more consistent? Even changing the filtering on the backgrounds would help.

I brought this up before and said it looked bad, and a person kept calling me an idiot whilst saying it looks good. So I doubt you're gonna get help, I sure didn't.
I've what I've read before on /vr/ is right, they lost the original high-definition backround renders of FFIX, so whatever they used for the PS1 version is literally all they have to put into any future versions.
>>3742769
Play on a small screen. Literally all I can say.
It looks neat.
>>3742730
no text editor?
Way way way way ahead of it's time
The Palm organizers came out much later and could do all this stuff without a peripheral keyboard and still were pretty terrible.
The phone was the key missing element.
Ah, that's pretty cool, basically turns a Gameboy into a full PDA.
Don't know if this kind of thread ever pops up here but do people try and revive/port old games that are available in source form for Linux etc?
Many games have already been ported I know, like the big ones like Doom, Quake, Hexen. But there are games that didn't get so much attention like AvP.
Only asking as I might attempt to port it just to see if it can be done. Haven't done any game or graphics programming before but I have done a lot of general application and web programming and I know Linux fairly well.
Godspeed.
>>3742583
I see some games available as source code, mostly DOS games. I don't know enough about it myself but go for it man, why not
>>3742583
Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem and a fucking bunch of other PC games around the mid nineties released their source code. You just have to do some digging and you can find them. Maybe you could decompile ROMS with certain emulators.
I originally posted this on /g/, but I thought you guys might be interested. This image has the original mario rom in it. To decode it you need the tool Image Steganography and select the decode option.
>file claims to be 410kb
>is actually 820kb
why would i do that
cool good job you can put files in pictures
>>3742569
That was the original image. This image has the original mario rom encoded into it, hence its bigger filesize.
What series have you beaten the most games in? For me it's Mega Man if I include the various sub series. I've done 1-10, X-X6, I-V, Power Battles 1 and 2, Mega Man and Bass, Zero 1, Xtreme 1 and 2, and Soccer and a few other games.
Other series I've done most of or all games in: Super Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pilotwings, F-Zero, Dragon Quest, and Phantasy Star (original series).
Castlevania. Only ones I haven't beaten yet are the 3D games (too shitty) and some of the more obscure ones, like on MSX.
Ultima 1-9+UW(1+2)+SI+MD+SE
>>3742340
Also Mega Man for me. I did all of the main games for each series, even Star Force and Battle Network
well, looky look
interesting
>>3742080
wow they totally pussyfied to for the americucks

I get the sexual/religion censorship but what's with the teeth?
Does /vr/ approve of the PSP's emulation abilities?
>Genesis/MD
>NES
>GBC
>PS1
that's just what I use, there's probably more. Some SNES games work, but it's not very reliable. Other than that, I've only had minor graphical glitches from pretty much anything I've tried.
Any of you guys use one?
also not /vr/ but GBA emulation is damn good too
it's OK, but it's still emulation and even some basic essentials on genesis like sonic 2 do not run correctly.
>>3741815
I beat Sonic 2 on a PSP. Do you use PicoDrive?
>>3741808
>Genesis/MD
Picodrive has poor sound emulation, runs slow with vsync on.
>NES
NesterJ is very good. No noteworthy problems.
>GBC
MasterBoy seems to work just fine, no problems I'm aware of.
>PS1
More or less perfect since it uses Sony's own emulator. Games that use the full compliment of buttons on the PS1 pad may be a bit awkward, but the controls can be remapped.

Do you call her "Peach" in this or still call her "Toadstool" in this one game?
PRINCESS
>>3741809
This.
>>3741801
Peach. I've never heard of someone calling her princess toadstool.
SMT Thread. What's your favorite game and why?
I haven't played a lot of SMT games aside from Persona 3 FES, Nocturne and 4 Golden.
But I love the series mostly for it's atmosphere, designs and gameplay.
What's the best way of playing 2?
I have 1 for iOS, I finished Nocturne, and I'm in the middle of IV.
Are there any proper English patches?
My favorite SMT isn't /vr/
My favorite /vr/ SMT is Soul Havkers though. I miss having to manage magnetite, and the caharcters and atmosphere are great.

Is the 3DS remake any good? It's only 10 eurobucks in the eShop.
There's much ado about the hardest games ever, but what about the easiest ones, ones you play to simply relax and have a fun time?
I like some of the old pc city builders. I've been playing caesar 3 and pharaoh a lot lately.
Rhapsody is nearly impossible to lose without trying but it's still worth playing for the story and cheesy musical numbers.
Kirby's Dreamland may not be the easiest game on the system but it's difficulty is so low that it's almost hard to enjoy the game due to its lack of challenge.
Following the discovery of the source code for Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and other assets on the SGI Indy computers recovered from the Acclaim Entertainment bankruptcy, they will be auctioned on eBay "with a portion of the proceeds going to charity."

Didn't that fat fuck assembler have all the acclaim shit? He's probably gonna snap this one up too and we'll never get to see it
Oh well at least there's Kaiser's remake

Yep, apparently he isn't doing anything with them.

What's with all the dislikes on the video?
i'm guessing fans are angry about something
>giving a shit about MGS when golden eye exists
Being a PlayStation owner was suffering
Sure tapping on walls and snapping necks was cool but think about all the cool things you can do on Goldeneye
Boy, I love console wars from 20 years ago.
Two different types of game you dolt. Besides I could just play real FPS on PC.
>>3741486
They're two entirely different things. One is a game based on a movie. The other is a game that's trying to be a movie.
/vr/ related stuff in film & television
post your favourite retrogame of acclaim
NARC
Rampage
Total Carnage
All of their titles are edgy games isn't it?
>>3741397
nice!
>>3741397
>Total Carnage
it was from midway
Why the fuck does the competitive 2-player mode use Splitscreen but the cooperative mode doesn't?
What the fuck SEGA?
The splitscreen is shit and Sega was just trying to show off double resolution interlacing mode hoping that some other developer might actually bother using it.
>>3741341
It looks a bit off but it's better than not having at all. The game is pretty much unplayable on coop.
It's not cooperative mode. It's still a single player game with a controllable sidekick that serves little purpose on than to keep the younger sibling occupied for several minutes.
