PROTIP: If you would like to submit any news or your personal map or mod releases here, please reply/backlink to this post.
And just a little pointer for those that use 4chanX and want to make a new thread, at least copy and paste the body of texts of both the OP and news post from an archived version so I don't have to clean up all the embed tags and find the YT links again.
Thank you.

Stop trying to derail the thread with AGDQ shit you fucking bellend.
Overrated or worth a playthrough? FF VI and SMB3 are some of my favorite games btw.
Is a great game on his own, but dont expect anything challenging or complex here. The best definition for this game could be "My first JRPG".
The best "babby's first JRPG"
I never understood the appeal of this game even when it first came out. Mario makes for some great platforming action, but the Mushroom Kingdom "universe" is pure ad hoc garbage-tier babby food.
So why was DKC3 not as praised as DKC2 and DKC3?? It was still pretty fun and there was a whole lot more stuff to do then 2. Did people just hate Kiddy Kong?
I played the hell out of the original DKC, but by the time the sequels came out I had already moved on to the 5th gen consoles.
I just don't think many people played it.
>>3728928
>Did people just hate Kiddy Kong?
First, it was 1996. Second, yes.
>>3728934
This, I was aware of DKC2 but didn't own it. I didn't even know DKC3 existed until much later and it being released right after the N64 definitely didn't help.
Does anyone remember this thing? Japanese only, had some neat exclusives, practically DLC for games like Zelda:LTTP/Chrono Trigger/F-Zero and a full remaster of the first Legend of Zelda, among other things. You'd think people would talk more about this gem.
What's your favorite Satellaview game, /vr/?
Most people will say BS-Zelda. It's not really "DLC" per se it was a sort of online community thing. BS-Zelda is actually a remaster of the Famicom LoZ with a timed element and live audio broadcast over the satellite channel. There's also a Chrono Trigger related story game called Radical Dreamers. A lot of the content was Japanese gambling games though and there's really no reason to rehash those.
We have weekly threads on this thing for some reason. Yeah it's kinda neat but the novelty wears off.
Radical Dreamers >>>>> Chrono Cross
What made this game such a masterpiece?
The music, mostly.
http://blog.hardcoregaming101.net/2010/02/final-fantasy-vi.html
This articulates perfectly what makes FFVI such a stand out game, I suggest everyone read it when they have the time.
So many characters and the time skip after the end of the world really makes you feel like you get to know your characters on very deep level. Losing all your friends then spending endless hours trying to find them and finding out what they have been doing since and that feeling that things will never go back to the way they used to be, even after you beat the boss, so bittersweet.
Yo /vr/, /v/ here. Been thinkin' about gettin' a Dreamcast but its library seems kinda lackluster - just a bunch of arcade ports and former exclusives.
Only games I'm really interested in are Shenmue, Fire Pro D, RE 2 & 3 and Daytona USA. Any hidden gems I don't know about? What are your personal favs?
Oh, and the Sonic Adventure games look alright. Bet I could burn lots of hours in the Chao Island.
Unless you already have a retro PC once you start playing any game on Dreamcast especially using VGA out you'll get hooked.
>>3728904
the system has a very low amount of exclusives that are worth it. almost as bad as the n64 imo.
saturn all the way
Give it to me straight /vr/
Does this look stupid like this?
>>3728806
Cord not long enough for side by side? I mean u got the room.
>>3728806
get an fdsstick and move on with your life
>>3728806
famicom support was a 5 min afterthought
of course it looks stupid
Problem with super ufo pro8
It has deleted 10 hours on Earthbound
How can I play without the fear of losing everything?
You have to manually save your SRAM before you load a new ROM. Or just not change ROMs until you're done.
>super ufo
ayy
>>3728742
Is it a good emulator cart?
Is this an essential /vr/ console?
>>3728158
You don't like Star Trek?
>>3728158
Not while the power base converter and/or everdrive exists.
It does look kinda cool though, I'll give you that.
It's Sega, so yes.
It's Sega's most irrelevant console though. (figuratively, inb4 people mentioning SG-1000 or Pico)
When I think of atmospheric games, Super Metroid is the first to come to mind and certainly my favorite. What heavily atmospheric games do you like?
Super CastleVania IV.
>>3727989
Legend of Mana has that awesome fairytale mood to it.
Shame about the weird-ass "custom" world map system; a traditional open fantasy world would have made it perfect
>>3727989
Phantasy Star Online.
And specifically, Mines 2nd level.
Why is the IA so bad?
Why is the spelling so bad?
Because AI is hard and it doesn't really need to be good to make the game playable and enjoyable for most people. Proof: everyone fucking loved Secret of Mana regardless.
Alternate answer: to encourage you to get a friend to play with you.
All those years wasted on 4chan were worth it for posts like these.
>>3727162
ya know the one person I tried to get to play Saturn with me last year did not seem the least bit interested. i didn't pitch a fit or anything of course, not everyone is into old shit after all, and we happily watched some youtube after smoking another bowl
>>3727163
As long as you weren't watching Pudiepie that sounds acceptable, bit sad though I would have jammed that shit out with a few beers.
>>3727163
DEUCE
>Want to play some Super Metroid
>Remember the long unskippable intro and space station sequence
Share this and similar feelings with me.
>load up super metroid in a decent emulator
>hold the speed up key through the intro
>play the game
Emulation 100, Real Hardware 0
>want to start playing rpg
>remember intro shit is like 40min long
>want to say the PS1 is the best console of its generation
>90% of the good games of the library are 40+ hour games with 1-2hour intros before the game actually begins, at best
Sooo... Bit rot.. How concerned should one be about software deterioration on older vidya? Is there any real way to protect cart boards open to the environment?
Have any of you had this issue before? Are our vidya just doomed?
You should only be concerned if you leave your carts in the wettest, hottest place possible. I had bit rot happen to me once because I was a retarded teenager and thought it would be a good idea to store my vidya floppies in the garage during a hot, damp, summer.
carts will outlive us all.
>>3726602
I sincerely doubt that.
What did you think of this game /vr/?
>>3725868
HUM HUMMMM UMMM HUMM HUM.
Great atmosphere and music. Tim and the monkey guy's scenarios are the worst parts of the game, though.
>>3725868
Ellison's AM is genuinely one of the best performances in vidya.
