This game is bullshit. I'm at the dragon mail shop as Piranhaman, but I can't buy it since it just shows up as a question mark. It's a recurring theme with this game. Why so many shopkeepers not-selling god damn question marks? If I have the money I'll buy it, if I can get to a shop I should be able to buy what it offers, no reason to guard it behind some arbitrary, impossible to guess barriers. What a badly designed game, I guess my quest stops there.

You're not that retarded are you?

Each transformation or piece of armor you wear has different charm values, the shopkeepers won't sell certain items unless you have a high enough charm. You can look that value up in the inventory screen.

Why do people never talk about this game? Best game on the N64 without a doubt.

It does get mentioned from time to time as one of the better late games to have come out for the N64. I enjoyed playing it, but it was not the SMRPG 2 that I was really hoping it would be. I can see where they tried and they still did a pretty good job at it, and maybe I had very high expectations for it. Either way, it was still enjoyable in its own right, just not SM64 good.

The problem is with the SRAM. Someone on GameFAQs had a similar issue but fucked up installing the new chip. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/198314-pokemon-yellow-version-special-pikachu-edition/74205973 With steadier hands you might be alright.

What PSX racing games should I be playing beside R4?
I prefer more arcade type racing games, so don't say Gran Turismo, please. I just want something to do run time attacks in and try to git gud.
I guess other systems are fine too, but PSX is preferred.

I hope such illiterate monkeys don't get to play Earthbound.

Yeah, I know, they wouldn't play it anyway, it's just for shelf. Just hard copy.

Note that I haven't fallen for pic related, but it's known to be a gaming hoax as well.

Modern games emphasize graphics and story over fun. That's the most underrated word in all of video gaming, fun. You can talk to me all day about frame rates and resolutions but I really don't care.
>>
>>3729459
This. Old games are just fun at the end of the day. Modern day gaming is presuming itself to be something other than a whimsical electronic toy.

the PAL standard has caused the populous by and large to think slower, to have worse reaction times, and due to the implementation in games, has given them a poor perception of game design.

Do you approve the use of save-states to save between levels instead of save scumming?
69 posts and 6 images submitted.

personally no, games are designed for you to fail at constantly. this prepares you for later stages and if you can't do things correctly then technically you never learned anything or paid any attention. that's how i feel

why do you want approval anyway

When I was a lad I used to use savestates. I'd use them to get past difficult parts of games, or as a fast alternative to save points in RPGs. Now that I'm older, I only use them if I'm hacking a game.

I think I stopped using them after getting burned playing Breath of Fire. I was near the end of the game fighting some little kid at the top of a huge tower. Something happened with the savestate and I ended up saving a bug-frozen game. When I loaded up the SRAM, it seemed I hadn't saved in 30+ hours, so I just dropped the fucking game.

Since then I have recognized when I first was playing Tetris Attack, I thought the AI was literally unbeatable unless you used savestates, yet now I can crush any opponent in 15 seconds. I think save states limit your ability to get good at a game, feel accomplished when you beat a challenge, and generally detract from the experience. Maybe you don't feel the same way, but I'd recommend against there use.

Does the N64 have the worst library of any major console? I mean it has first-party Nintendo games, it has Rare games, and then... it's just nothing. A barren sea of shovelware as far as I can tell. Am I missing something about this console or can you pretty much pack it up after playing the classics, the 20-some good games it has?

>>
It was the last stop before the Wii, appreciate it for what it has.
>>
I'd rather have a few FUN first party games than a bunch of AAA that's actually shit.
>>
>>3729162
The problem is that its main competitor, the PS1, has a wide range of quality developers and titles. I'm not saying the N64 is bad itself, the first party titles are nice, but it's seriously bad in numbers.

What games do you think are exactly-rate. Not over or underrated, but rated fairly by most people.

Pic related. Quiet, slow, pleasant, pretty great music. Bowser is neat. Maybe not the best version of the game or idea. Fine.

I think SNES Simcity Simcity is the best version of the game. But all the sequels improved in it in a lot of ways except for the comfy factor.
