1989 vs 2017
Literally who?
>>3748901
Bocke Lee Temjin
>>3748897
The only thing I didn't like was Piranha-Man. He looks like a complete pussy in the remake, while in the original he was a badass.
What SNES games do you think Newman played?
Risk
Seinfeld
Paperyboy 2
I don't know why, but sometimes I feel modern computing makes all dull and boring, but back then computers and consoles inside and outside tried to look either cool, either classy.
What's your opinion on that?
I'd say, Sega CD BIOS is an example of computers being cool. Well, I think it's the coolest BIOS around here.
I miss the 90's.
>>3748734
I think there are 2 big reasons for this.
First, PCs and electronics used to be more prestigious than today, sometimes even being luxurious. The presentation mattered a lot for them. Sega CD in particular was priced at $300 at launch in US. In today's money that'd be around $520—and it was an add-on for crying out loud. Add to that the prices for CRTs, the more expensive carts and so on. It was a more luxurious segment, hence they poured more money into presentation.
Second, times simply changed. Computers were still something new, magical and unreachable for most. They could still wow people with power and new technology. But today, PCs don't impress most people anymore; everybody has one, and specs don't matter as much anymore.
If you look at flagship smartphones though, they still try to set themselves apart from competition with custom skins, apps and so on. Budget segment doesn't do this, but it's obvious.
Lastly, Apple has gained quite a success with its focus on accessibility and minimalism in its products, setting the trend for all the manufacturers. And this minimalism tends to feel pretty dull really.
>>3748779
To give another example, think budget clothing vs luxury clothing, budget cars vs luxury cars. You'll see the big difference in presentation between them.
If you look at H&M or Kia, they tend to be pretty minimalist, generic, and somewhat bland—they don't spend much on design, obviously. Their ads will usually contain smiling, friendly people, emphasizing their accessibility.
Meanwhile, some boutique clothing brand or Mercedes will emphasize the value of the brand, its uniqueness, history, and will often include a pamphlet or booklet with a long story about how cool your product is, how it's made of the finest materials from all over the world, etc. You'd also notice their stores to be way better decorated, perhaps with better dressed staff too, not consisting of teens and obese women. Also, often they will have ads with beautiful people looking at you like at a piece of shit, kind of communicating: "you will never afford that, pleb".
In general, computers today are dirt cheap compared to previous years. They cut corners on everything. So the presentation obviously won't be any fancy. Consoles cost around the same—but usually they have alright menu design and such.
I got a Mega Everdrive X3 today and am relatively unfamiliar with either the Genesis library or the SMS library. What should I check out?
Only Genesis stuff I have played:
Hyperstone Heist
Castlevania Bloodlines
MJ's Moonwalker
Alien Soldier
Spiderman: Maximum Carnage
Streets of Rage
Shinobi 2
SMS games I have played:
Alex Kidd
Master of Darkness

Been playing Shadowrun on mine. Really complicated and easy to die but fun.
Dude, play Sonic, for starters.
>GTA
disgusting.
>>3748726
I've played Sonic CD if that counts. It's decent.
Everytime I try to download the files for image burn to burn Dreamcast games my computer tells me the files have been moved or deleted. Wtf am I doing wrong. I can only find one place to download those files.
You might as well delete your thread. This board is for the discussion of retro games, not your tech support.

And when did dreamcast come out? Thanks for being a dick. Im sorry being 13 and and an obvious Nintendo fand boy that you got your wittle feewings hurt...
When I came across this game in 2004, I had my doubts. But, it was such a damn good game, except for the abrupt ending. So, I ask. What is your personal favorite game no one really knows about?
making a RPG game out of the quake 2 engine must've been so fucking hard
>>3748609
Yeah from what I remember reading. They made this game to compete with FFVII I believe. To show that an RPG can be made with real time graphics, including cinematics. Not to mention if you search on youtube, it became the first full length Machinima, cutting up all the cut scenes into one hour long movie.
I need some help.
I have pic related hooked up to a decent sound system, but no matter what I try, most of the games sound pretty bad. Definitely worse than I remember from when I was a kid.
Is there anything I can do with the EQ to do something about this weird "twangy warble" I keep hearing?
>>3748235
Can you be more specific about that sound? Is it trebbly? Bassy? Midrange?
>>3748235
You should be using a model 1 genesis with the stereo audio port on the front of the console if you want better sound.
Sounds like you have a Sega Genesis.
What is your specific complaint?
Why did we let this happen?
>>3748086
Looks like an RM2K game.

Is there any point at all in owning the first Stadium if I already have this?
If you like the multiplayer mini-games, I guess.
It's compatible with more Pokemon gamrs
As someone without either, which one should I get?
I heard 2 is hard to play without using a transfer pak.
Saw one of Pat's latest videos (where he goes to the flea market) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrJ_7dBh-_Y&t=4s
What a freaking homo. First he puts out stuff he doesn't want to sell and then gets mad when people are like, "WTF?"
Then he tries to sell an empty lego box for $5 (Pat: *swallows spit* "Well, you know, on e-bay the new complete set goes for $100!") and gets mad when someone thinks it's retarded to sell an empty box for $5.
Is there a bigger homo than Pat?
>>3747617

Yes, you.
I miss Jew Wario.

Are there any gameshark codes to fix this?
The arcade mode is sideways because the monitors in the arcade cabinets were vertically oriented.
>>3749469
Yeah no shit. The problem is the game rotates the 'wrong' way. Every other TATE game rotates clockwise so you lay the monitor on it's left side.
What's the difference between setting the TV on the right side vs the left side?
How many of you use burned games? Do you just write the name of the game on the cd? Or get something printed onto a cd? Lightscribe looks interesting but expensive. Any places making high quality cd repros or do some of you make them yourselves?
I don't have much of a real collection of games or hardware outside of my pc and emulators but I can speak a teeny bit on cd labeling.
A couple years ago I did try lightscribe and didn't like the results of the printed cover. I preferred buying those stickers that you print onto with full color that you peel off and stick onto a cd/dvd. They always worked fine after I put it on and even to this day still work fine. They printed out wonderful with the colors and you can design them. I downloaded covers from like those sites that have cover jpeg collections (like www.cdcovers.cc). I would use Nero I think and just print it out real quick and then bam I had a nice cool looking disc.
>>3747382
Just old fashioned CD with sharpie.
If it's an NTSC-J version, I write the games original title in Japanese on the disc as well just because. Better than just some blank boring disc.
>>3747441
I wish I had that option. Between my garbage handwriting and coordination along with obsessive compulsive disorder I guess or whatever I always HATE the cd after I get done writing on it. I seriously feel like throwing it out and re-burning it because I hate staring at my own writing. Letters at a slant and different sizes and shit. I suck at writing and hate my own writing. I wish CDs had lines so I could do a better job.
What are /vr/'s thoughts the DOA games?DOA3 is allowed since /v/ doesn't give a fuck about it since it's 15 years old and it isn't a waifu doll dress up simulator.
Are DoA Ultimate the definitive versions of 1 & 2? They're fun games to play with friends.DoA3 is the best one
DoA died with Itagaki leaving Team Ninja/notretro
>>3747158
I didn't like DOA1 at all, but most of the ones after that are fine.
>>3747165
Well, DOA1U is just a higher res Saturn port and lacks the extras of the Playstation port, so it's hard to say if it's definitive (I'm sure Itagaki will agree that it's the definitive version, otherwise he wouldn't have chosen the Saturn version), but it certainly resembles the original arcade version more than the PS1 port, which DOA++ was based on. I personally did not care for the graphics of the PS1 version, way too Tekken-like, especially with the spark hit effects, plus the backgrounds were ugly and simple.
DOA2U is definitely the definitive version.
