I don't think Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES was a bad game. I think it is hard as tits. But that only makes it challenging, not bad. What do you think, /vr/?
>>3733209
No offense, OP, but it sounds like you pulled your opinion from somewhere else...
That can't be right. This game is borderline unplayable.
Are you attempting to ruse me?
>>3733214
Well the phrase "hard as tits" came from the Tourettes Guy but no. This is my opinion. I've managed to get to level 5 on it. Hope to get further someday. I just have to devote some time to it.
Missed the last thread. What do you guys think of this port?

Careful with that edge, Eugene.
I finally got around tosoft-modding my wii foremulation, and pic related is so goddamn awkward for playing retro.
Is there a better option? Maybe something resembling a snes or a dualshock?
Any recommendations?

Official NES Classic Controller
Official SNES Classic Controller
GameCube Hori Pad
Wii Classic Controller
Wii Classic Controller Pro
You kind of are creating a fight so good bait if that was your intention.
Both the Classic controllers are quite traditionally laid out but they plug into the Wiimote and introduce perceptible lag
There are adapters that let you use legit retro controllers on Gamecube and so also on a Wii's Gamecube ports. The quality and efficiency of these vary wildly,
Get a classic controller?
For NES games I just turned the wii remote on it's side, it just felt so natural to me.
I need some DQ3 party strategy to beat the God Dragon/Divinegon. It's the SNES remake.
The last time I played through I fucked up. I had the Hero, Pilgrim, Wizard, and Jester. At Dharma I changed the Pilgrim into a Fighter and both the Wizard and Jester into Sages at lvl 20 (which is too soon, I think). I thought this party would be good but I couldn't beat the Sky Castle. Everyone was too squishy and the team magic sucked. And the Jester/Sage was the worst member of the party by the endgame.
So what is the best party composition to do this with? Is it really as simple as just not messing around with job changes in Dharma at all, and just go Hero, Fighter, Pilgrim, Mage all the way through? Seems kind of boring, but ok. I'd rather at least do *something* in Dharma...there needs to be a Sage in there somewhere or I feel like life just isn't worth living.
You just trying to beat him at all or do it within the turn-limit?
Beating him at all didn't seem like a big deal so long as you've got both sage stones and healing spells.
Doing it in the turn-limit though, I made all three characters into the crit-happy martial artists to do damage fast enough, but only after giving them spells first; think I had most or all of them as sages at some point. So they can heal and cast attack-up.
I played the GBC version but this aspect should be the same I think. (I didn't use the double-attack dragon transformation trick that's unique to GBC.)
>>3733237
Just trying to beat him. Not worried about the turn limits really, just b/c he's the biggest guy in the game and it feels incomplete leaving him up there.
Late game I had both sage stones, but I got into a loop where I wasn't doing enough damage and wound up on defense. And I only just barely squeaked by Zoma, basically got a Hail Mary crit on the last possible round. Epic af but I feel like I would lose that matchup 9/10 times the way I set it up.
Hero, Soldier, Fighter, Pilgrim seems as though it would be good enough to win with, but three sages-turned-warriors is even better. That second scroll doesn't come until late, though. So you must have had a jester as well?
I think I really only want to class change once. Ugh, so many options tho...
>>3733283
>So you must have had a jester as well?
Yeah, I remember using the whistle spell to summon instant encounters when grinding monster medals (GBC thing) so I must have had a jester to get that.
RIP
its interesting how much effort people put into the theory, but he didn't die
>>3733076
I could sort of get behind the whole R=U theory, but this shit is just stupid.
I have a question about the whole retro trend happening right now in reference to indie games.
Does it deserve all the praise it gets these days? Why is it happening? As /vr/, for myself, I think it's a bit of a childish trend. I honestly had enough pixel art back in the day and it's not like any of these games are going to the snes level of quality, when games were looking gorgeous. I'm just not sure if it's really a thing, if it's just a cult thing drilled into their brain, or if it's just a desperate attempt to grasp at any game that is considered "good and old fashioned."
I find it a little contradictory that gamers would want games like the good ole days, but if they were really from those days, they'd be like me who is mostly done with that low quality style. I like clarity in my graphics.
>>3733043
Neat, I have that exact same little game holder, though I wasn't aware it originally came with a lid too.
I don't mind the pixel art. I just want them to step away from the "8-bit" meme. They're not even doing it right anyway.
I'd much rather they do something like Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, or that Scott Pilgrim game.
Just... no more passing MS Paint stick men off as "Retro"
>>3733064
Yeah, waiting for the 16 bit to pop up, which will be never.
People seriously cried over this?
>>3732987
It was a simpler time.
hide shit threads. don't respond unless you are a total fucking baited loser. go back to /v/
>>3732987
I cried because I wasted hours trying to level up her.
But she was a good character, definitely the best girl in the game.
Any anon know of any effective ways to remove marker from a game cart without warping/damaging the plastic?
>>3732939
1) Sell it on ebay
2) Buy a replacement
I've used Brasso and successfully removed marker from an NES cartridge.

You DISGUST me.
Can we decide on what the hardest retro game is?
Don't decide on a shmup. Shmups have no soul.
>>3732952
>Gradius
>no soul
Playing Gradius II for the first time can feel really hard, but it succumbs to memorizing. It has a lot of stuff to stop you from beating it on the first try though. I'm speaking of those fire arches and birds on the first stage, for example.
The rest is just what you'd expect from Gradius game. Yes, it's hard, but there's nothing unpredictable in it.
Whats the VR recommended method for restoring yellow plastics to their former glory?
I have a Apple II GS (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc are all yellowed), SNES, NES (us front loading type) and probably some other stuff I forgot about.
I hear lots of contradictory information, some methods seem to damage the plastic, others don't work, etc. Trying to get a trust worthy opinion on this stuff.
The peroxide method seems to be what I see a lot of - get some stuff from hair salons (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001RYQITU) slap it on top, put it in a bag and leave in the sun.
Is this really the best way? The bleaching thing sounds pretty easy to do and totally ruin it. Not to mention leaving shit in the sun is just beh. UV lamp would be a little better I'm guessing.
Still that method seems uh not great.

Retrobrite is the best anyone has figured out so far, but even it needs to be reapplied after several years or the yellowing will return
It might be worth it if you are selling it and want to get top dollar, but otherwise I wouldn't try and restore it.
It's not worth the risk of making the plastic brittle. The plastic becoming brittle is problematic because it can be more susceptible to cracks when unscrewing etc.
Is there anyone here who owns a Atari Jaguar and a Jaguar CD? If so, would you recommend buying the system just to play the handful of good games that are on it?

DDP/SMB2 were good games but you can't even compare that shit to SMB3
Hey, so I've been grabbing some more controllers for my N64 for multiplayer, and I noticed something you guys might be interested in.
This is a TTX Tech controller, and there are two separate kinds of them that come in the same packaging.
The first kind is decent.
It locks in memory/rumble paks, and he joystick works well, if a little on the sensitive side.
The second one is terrible.
The joystick look like an imitation of a real N64 controller, but it's super clunky and goes zero to full throttle, almost like it uses microswitches.
The latch on it also fails to lock the memory pak into the controller.
>>3732507
This is the good one
>>3732508
This is the bad one
Interesting. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Was Link a Christian elf?
>The Book of Magic resembles a stereotypical depiction of the holy book of Christianity, the Bible, as it has a cross on its cover. This is because the Japanese version of the game actually called the item the Bible. This was likely changed due to Nintendo of America's guidelines. In spite of this, the later Famicom cartridge edition retains both names, with Bible in Japanese and Book of Magic in English text beside it. In addition, the shields used by Link and Darknuts also have a cross painted on it.
Switching the Holy Bible into a magic grimoire is an odd case of censorship if you ask me.
>Although [A Link to the Past] rang in the religion of the Golden Goddesses and the Triforce, official artwork was released regardless that depicted Link kneeling before a crucifix.
>Right before the entrance to the Desert Palace, Link finds a tablet which, if read by using the Book of Mudora, tells him to pray to open the door. He then draws a cross on his chest while the first nine notes of the Sanctuary theme play. Incidentally, there is a pentagram inside of the Desert Palace in the Japanese version, though this was replaced with a nonsensical symbol in International versions. The Loyal Sage character was also a priest in the Japanese version, and his Sanctuary was intended to be a church.
Now I didn't know about the Pentagram...is there a Japanese version Romhack with English script? I want to revisit the old Zelda games with their original features intact, including OoT with the Islamic prayer in the fire cave.
Christianity is a novelty to them it's sort of like Westerners making some buff bald guy and slapping some big spherical prayer beads on him without really bothering to know much about it.
>>3732458
It's true but that's not to say they wouldn't do their research. I rather like the implications of Link being a Christian elf and the Gerudo being a tribe of Islamic people (and by extension Ganondorf)
Hindu swastika (Zelda 1)
Arabic references, Moon crescent, sheikh, etc, (OoT)
