Yeah it's easy, it's just expensive. I'm an Australian who moved to the UK, first on a Tier 5 then a Tier 2 visa. If you're young, get the tier 5 youth visa then try and get a job that'll let you stay.
Do not underestimate how much it may cost and how fiddly it can be. You may want to get a 3Rd party to help with the application if you are a useless fuck or easily confused. Try first contact

I'm travelling to Belarus soon, I'd like to know if anyone here has been there as a tourist and what the experience was like

Since I don't speak Russian I'll be pretty limited there so I'm trying to gather as much info and tips as possible

>>
why though?
>>
I go to Belarus somewhat regularly (and am a citizen, but only by descent, I've never lived there permanently).

What would you like to know in particular?

I will say, going there speaking no Russian at all will be incredibly difficult, you at least need to know the Cyrillic alphabet and some basic phrases and numbers if you dont want to rely on google translate 24/7 because literally nobody speaks English.

Also, its really not a country for tourists, what made you go there?

I'm trying to learn a little now
Could you recommend any restaurants? And even hotels if possible.
I heard travelling by bus between cities is more comfortable than travelling by train. Is this true? If so, could you tell me the names of the bus companies? I'd like to visit Grodno and Wikitravel says there are buses but no info on the companies or timetables.

Dodge City actually does take kindly to newcomers, so there's no need to "Get outta Dodge" there are some 'cities' in KS that will actually pay you to live there, but I'm not sure if it is one of them.

Kinda of have the impulse to leave continental U.S and see whats going on over here.

>~about 3.5k in funds, but want to be as frugal as possible.
>can stay for a couple weeks or months

Any answers/suggestions for the following would be much appreciated.

>is it easy to get laid?
>How much cheaper is cost of living here?
>can i gym regularly and cheaply?
>how dangerous is it?
>cannabis culture?

Any other advice welcome.

if you want hookers, they are definitely better in Brussels than in Amsterdam.

Just saying.

otherwise, there's stuff to see for a few hours.

Hello Americans, I need your help. I'm applying for a scholarship to come to 'murica, and I was asked to create an approximate spending plan. I'm targeting four completely different locations (Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Massachusetts), but it's always big university cities. Are you able to estimate:

1. How much does one pay for food every month?
2. How much does it cost to pay for basic living-related stuff (phone, bus ticket, w/e) every month?
3. How much does it cost to buy a set of basic household items (bowls, cutlery, towels, and so on)?
4. If possible - what's the approximate rent for a single room in the biggest cities of Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, and Massachusetts?

Please, help. I have literally no idea how much would that be.

Rather than (or in addition to) posting this on /trv/, where there may be only a few people from each of the cities you mention and where the post rate is low, you might look for sites dedicated to folks living in each city. You might contact the folks at the institutions you are looking at, they have an office dedicated to attracting students to the school and probably have some info on all the points you raise. You might also get some help by contacting the Chamber of Commerce or Economic Development Office in the cities you are looking at.

Hope that's some help. Good luck to you.

I feel like City-Data.com would be good for the sort of information OP is after.

>>1264699

Frankly, nobody can answer your questions without having a better idea of where you're looking to head.

The cost of living near Wayne State University in Detroit would be much lower than around the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

The same applies for other states, with Massachusetts and California generally being more expensive than states in the Midwest.

Not sure about Pennsylvania.
>>
>>1264699
>1. How much does one pay for food every month?

Depends where you live and generally, your college will have some meal plan for you. Generally compared to overseas, food portions are much larger for what you pay for. You can get burgers and shit for a dollar, to whole chickens for under 5.

>2. How much does it cost to pay for basic living-related stuff (phone, bus ticket, w/e) every month?

Like the other anon said use city data, it completely depends where you live, California will be the highest priced place on that list, followed by MA, the rest are pretty dirt cheap.

>3. How much does it cost to buy a set of basic household items (bowls, cutlery, towels, and so on)?

Go to walmart.com and look, easiest way.

>4. If possible - what's the approximate rent for a single room in the biggest cities of Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, and Massachusetts?

Go to apartments.com and look, select a price range and see what you get.

Hello, I'll traveling in China for about three weeks and I'd love to have your help forming an itinerary. Right now I have no more planned than flying out to Shanghai in a week.

I've lived in China for a few months so the culture and food is nothing new to me. I'd like to find beauty and novelty and although I'll have more to spend, I'd like to limit my spending to 800 USD or even less just for the sake of saving money. I intend to end my trip sometime in the latter half of July in Taiyuan as I'll be leaving most of my things there so I have a vague idea of going southwest from Shanghai or just west and eventually heading north.

Even though I've lived here for a while, I haven't put in the effort to learn the language but I'm comfortable getting around. I don't mind traveling by train but I'm interested in trying to hitchhike so if anyone has experience doing that in China, please share some tips if there's anything I should know that hasn't already been said in other threads. I'll also be traveling with my instrument and would like to busk in the cities I travel to. I am not sure about the busking laws and of course I'll look it up beforehand, but personal experiences are always more interesting to read about. This is more so I can get more comfortable playing in front of people and to share music rather than to make money so please don't waste your time writing anything harsh--you have better things to do.

Right now I'm thinking of going to Hangzhou for the west lake, Guangzhou for one of the oldest mosques in the world, and Guilin for the scenery. These have caught my attention but they're not necessarily vital for me to see. This trip is mostly for the sake of novelty and inspiration. I've been in a sort of rut lately and experience has taught me that backpacking, even if only for a few weeks, can take care of that. I don't really care too much about where I go but I suppose it's always nice to have a vague itinerary in mind. Thanks in advance.

In 10 days I did Beijing, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong and spent $400usd which was plenty and more. Lots of people knew some basic English but I may have just been lucky. Honestly dude public transportation is so cheap there you'd be a fool to try and waste your time hitch hiking. Three weeks isn't very long. I didn't see many beggars or any buskers in mainland China and I doubt the police would be ok with a foreigner doing it but I haven't been there long enough to tell.

Either way China was a blast even on a guided school tour so have fun man.

>I didn't see many beggars or any buskers in mainland China and I doubt the police would be ok with a foreigner doing it
There are beggers around, usually elderly or cripples (often fake cripples).

There are also buskers though they're not usually musicians, more like street performers wearing monkey costumes and playing at being Sun Wukong and posing for pictures with children. I don't think I'd want to do it to make money but it's possible. You'd get moved on by police a lot probably but generally they'll just tell you to get out of here and if you do what you're told then you'd be ok. If you were in the right areas then it would be ok, there are usually places that the buskers are tolerated.
>>
>>1263933
Come to think of it though, you'd be earning money on a tourist visa and if any cop stopped to think about your visa status then you'd be fucked. If you don't have your passport when cops ask, you're in trouble and if you do then you're earning money and you're in trouble.

Hello..
So I'm looking to go on a vacation, preferably someplace Scandinavia.
The focus was summer solstice festival/party but anything is possible..
Sometime August-September. The yearly meteor shower would also be awesome.. I also like Astronomy. Ideas?

Yeah, go for it, Scandanavia is awesome, don't know what you want us to tell you. Few general pieces of advice though, if you're looking to camp it can be surprisingly cold and fowl-weathered in in august-september, in coastal Norway specifically. If you're looking for partying and social engagment you should know Scandanavians are notoriously reserved people.

Other than that your post is pretty vague, have any specific questions? I've been to Norway-Sweden on several occasions.

Is your girlfriend a suit made out of skin?
I'd suggest Spain.
Barcelona is dope if you dig modern art. Or you could do the 'golden triangle' in the south of Granada, Cordoba, and Seville...as well as pretty much everywhere else in the south; Jerez, Cadiz, Ronda...
Madrid and Toledo are great too. Plus all the little medieval villages in the Catalunyan forests...

Vienna is hibrow as fuck.

Neo-classical architecture, some of the best classical music in the world, world renowned hub of diplomacy means great luxury services and cultural offerings.

Birthplace of psychoanalysis as Jung and freud lived there.
Excellent museums and so on..

I'm french and very proud of Paris but I never quite understood why people decided to crown paris as the best when it comes to culture when there are gems like vienna around.

Between 14 &16 you seem to be neglecting all the canyon areas. Grand Canyon, Monument Valley to name merely the most common two. If you are intent on staying further south then the Aircraft boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB near Tucson is worth considering.

Between 16 and 17, The McDonald mountains and McDonald Observatory for a sky party are worthwhile. If you have time and the inclination dropping down into the Big Bend National Park is worthwhile the scenery is splendid especially along the Rio Grandev and it is the most overlooked National Park in the US.

Between 21 and 22 The Blue Ridge Parkway make a different alternative to the Interstates.

Hi /trv! Tomorrow I'll take a flight to Marrakech and I've never been there. We will stay for a whole week. Does someone know something interesting to do there? (excluding desert and visiting typical places)

You've picked the worst city in Morocco to visit. There's nothing to do there for a whole week except get high with other tourists and feel bad about yourself and the world.
Take a shared taxi to Asni or Imlil (don't pay more than 30dh) and go trekking in the mountains. Don't worry about finding a guide; they'll find you.
>>
>>1264377
Thanks for the advice! Btw, will we find taxis to return to the city from those vilages?

What this guy says, Marrakech is kind of shit (don't do more than a day or two). Trekking in Imlil up to Toubkal is amazing

Hey, /trv/

My family wants to visit my uncle for his birthday in March of next year, and invited me to go with them despite the fact I'm not much of a family guy.

Don't take me wrong, I don't dislike my relatives above normal levels, but seeing as I care very little about wasting time with them walking around looking at clothes, or even being a tourist doing touristy things, I decided to use this as a chance to purchase tech equipment that cost 800% more in my country(Brazil), try and talk to people to practice my English and see what it's like pretending I lived there.

It's not /that/ hopeless a dream to apply for an exchange program or a green card(long story short, my father is a US citizen), so why not?

Here where I live I rely heavily on public transportation to get around. I take the bus and train/subway wherever I want to go, and get rides from time to time. So I have a question for folks living in the US:

How's public transportation? Does it work OK? What do I need to take the bus or train around town?

I'll probably stay in Florida for a week or two, so if you know how that'd work in Orlando, it'd be cool, but feel free to recommend me any other parts of the country I could visit.

>How's public transportation? Does it work OK? What do I need to take the bus or train around town?
It totally varies from city to city -- some places have subways, trains, light rail, buses; some only have one method or none. Some cities offer service every 10 minutes, some only a few times a day. Generally, the bigger the city, the more options you're going to have. In many/most rural or even suburban areas, transportation services are poor or nonexistent.

The only thing that's universal here is Amtrak trains and Greyhound buses, cheap but slow and for long distance.

As for Orlando, hopefully someone else can answer that for you.
>>
I'm not even being a dick, but check out the "get around" section of Orlando's wikitravel article. As the other Anon said, it varies widely from city to city.

what's the US citizenship deal, though, homie? parents unmarried, or father lived in the US a very short period?

Nobody will pick you up unless you're a girl, in which case they will expect a bj or at least handjob. If you're a dude you can get rides from truckers at rest stops, but most of them will expect sexual favors too. Hitchhiking is illegal on most US highways now, too. Expect the staters to arrest you if they see you doing it.

Sorry dude, the days of hitchhiking are long gone.

also, at least in europe it's pretty easy to do in general. I've done it on my own and it worked, but of course with a girl by your side everything is much easier.
