How do I travel as cheap as I can? I need tips since I just started and I don't have alot of money.
I found out about couchsurfing, is it really free to stay at a host or just less expensive? Where do I find cheap airline tickets websites that won't scam me?
Let's say I want to travel from Romania to New York, what do I do?
>>1262805
read the sticky.
>>1262805
>I found out about couchsurfing, is it really free to stay at a host or just less expensive?
It's free.
>How do I travel as cheap as I can?
Hitchhiking, train hopping (not recommended), dumpster diving and so on...
AIRBNB is quite cheap and you can make some friends this way since lot of them are (former) travellers or couchsurfers. If you dont care about comfort, then get a tent and ask people if you can set it on their garden.

t-thanks
I see airbnb offers are smething like 70 euros per night so I'm better off with couchsurfing
is skyscanner legit for tickets?
Preferably a white suburb where I can roll out a sleeping bag behind an obstructed building and not get caught, raped or stabbed.
Also, if this place has a public library, gym that allows you to rent a locker to store your stuff in overnight, bus system, and post office where you can rent a po box and an entry level call center or data entry place (like pic related only less pay) all within close range, that would be ideal.
>>1262202
>caught, raped or stabbed.
>>1262206
Shit entered too early.
Anyway there's no way to avoid those things is you sleep on the street for long periods of time.
Sleep on the rooftops.
Going to Cape May in a few week for a three day vacation.
What is there to do over there besides the beach?
Atlantic City, Wildwood, Lobster House, Ocean City
go on Weird NJ and do some research for crazy haunted abandoned shit

So nothing to do in the actual town itself?
So, I'm going to China soon, and was wondering about my laptop having porn in it, and whether or not I have to get rid of it.
I've heard that porn is illegal there, and I don't wanna get into deep shit over some hentai.
Is it okay to bring in a computer with porn?
>>1261287
Depends, really, but you should be careful.
They confiscated my laptop after I showed local police my porn stash. I advise you not to do it. Other than that, you will be fine.
Although be careful at the airport when getting out. They do actually scan your laptop when it goes through security. If there is porn on it, they will know and this can and did sometimes lead to warnings or confiscations. You usally have to explain yourself, though, so it's probably best to avoid such a hassle by deleting your content.
>>1261287
i had the same worries when traveling to singapore and malaysia.
i archived the porn and put a password on it. sure this is not secure, but it hides it superficially.
>>1261287
>I've heard that porn is illegal there
I think porn is not actually illegal to own, just to make or sell but the letter of the law doesn't really matter in China. Anyway, unless you're watching it in public then no one gives a shit.
Chinese have all seen porn, lots of them watch it at home.
If I go to Brazil, as a slightly above average american white man, what are my chances with the local women?
>>1261179
As at home, zero.
>>1261220
Y-you too
>>1261179
You are saying that like Its a big deal. Being white, black or brown, here, it doesn't matter. If you are handsome, or even a "normal" guy and a cool, them Its another story.
Hello /trv/, I have some questions about the Jacob´s Trail and pilgrimage in general.
I plan to hike the Trail after graduating (next summer) and I want to start from my hometown (in the Ruhr-Area, western Germany), going through the Netherlands, Belgium and the Île-de-France (Paris). I then plan to cross Aquitania and Euskerra and walk on the Camino de Santos after passing the Pyrenees (and flying back, ofc).
If I make 30km a day, I´ll make it in about 60-70 days. Is this realistic? I´m quite /fit/ but it seems quite much, especially with a heavy backpack.
Also, since I can´t afford staying in a hotel every day, how dangerous is sleeping in the forest? I know that hogs are a real and deadly danger in the night, but do they mess up tents and such, too? Is there a possibility of staying in certain monasteries (if there a still ones in godless Benelux and France)?
Also, can anyone give me some general info on how to behave and what some important must-sees/must-knows are? I really want to enjoy this trip, and don´t want to miss anything.
Thank you in advance!

>I know that hogs are a real and deadly danger in the night, but do they mess up tents and such, too?
Yeah sure, but boars are smarter than some humans I know. If there is a human, the chance of getting shot increases so they will stay away. They arent wolves or tigers.
>>1260073
you probably wont find much help for the france section here, you're doing double what most on trv have done.
posting your experience of france when you've done it would be interesting

My sibling started in Biarritz, barely the French trek, but still France nonetheless.
The first 3 days were the most grueling of the whole trip, if I recall the complaining about it. I want to say it was like crying while you're walking uncomfortable due to elevation in the Pass through the Pyrenees.

Just read a blog and get the apps for what to see and what to do along the way. It would help that you're catholic and can bond with the keepers of the various choices to stay and dine. Everything is soooo well documented. Thousands do this every year. My sibling had a great time with this pilgrim last summer and stayed together for several days of the trip. Hopefully you can pick up tips from the blogging notes, great photos inside hostels and at meals. Scroll all the way down to start at the beginning.

So I'm three days from leaving on my bike trip through europe and desperately trying to decide what to bring clotheswise.
Anyone with touring experience that can chip in?
My current plan is to bring:
biking t-shirt
long-sleeve shirt
"casual" linen dress shirt
jeans
hiking shorts (for biking)
a rain/wind-jacket
one pair of trail-running/hiking shoes for biking and walking around in
a cap
underwear+socks
I'm mainly concerned about the temperature during the day, and at night in the tent. I have a great fleece jacket that I could bring, but it takes a lot of space. I feel like I could also just stay a few nights in hostels/warm showers/airbnb if the weather turns bad..
Also, general recommendations on things see
for the record: I''m going all the way to Rome, it's just that google maps can't find a bike route that crosses the french-italian border so I couldn't plan it
When you're in Italy don't bicycle through the main streets / between the major cities. Just go up in the Appennines and follow the roads remaining in the middle of the peninsula as much as possible. Landscapes are far better and you'll find some cute towns
That's certainly a lot of biking.
What reason is there to travel outside of the United States?
This is a serious question. The United States has literally everything to offer in terms of terrain and scenery. Europe is now a muslim shithole. Asia is still an unsafe shithole. Africa and South America? Kek. Literally Switzerland and Shenzhen/Hong Kong are the only places worth visiting, imo. Why do people even care or want to see other cultures? If it's not generating money, there is no point

I see what you mean OP,
Im moving to live Mexico at the end of summer for a year or two to learn Spanish and teach english. I mean, everyone travels for different reasons and i think learning another language is certainly one of them.
Some parts of the world are also cheaper, its 20 Mexican pesos to 1 dollar right now, so my money goes a lot farther down there. There are parts of the world with exchange rates where you can live for a dollar a day.
I guess you really like the United States, i do as well but its harder to travel it for a longer period of time without a lot of money. Or a car for that matter.

We get it, you browse /pol/ now go back and report what a good boy you've been.
Recently I've checked out some guinness world book records and I found a lot of places which have the world's largest bucket, coffee mug, iron, chair, whatever (mostly household stuff). Most of them are in the U.S. especially in the country side, there are a lot of scupltures.
Visited the 2nd largest clothespin in Umea recently: https://youtu.be/WY1D5QNUquE
The largest one of course is in Philly. However, those sculptures are nice to have if you are somewhere anyway. But are there MUST-SEE objects around, you would travel to for? Post some examples! Cheers.
I went to one of the worlds biggest coo coo clock in south Germany. It was shit
I don't know if this counts, but in Camogli, Italy, they have the biggest frying pan of the world, and they actually use it to cook fish during a local festival in the summer.

I believe the one in Rose Hill, NC, is bigger. Lacks the handle, but the handle is superfluous on something you can't pick up.
I just spent six weeks going around Spain, thought I'd rank the cities I went to.
I went with my girlfriend, we are mid 20s and like eating, drinking, cultural stuff & the beach. Spain is full of these things so we understandably loved it.
GOD TIER
Bilbao
San Sebastian
Cadiz
Valencia
(beautiful cities with amazing food, great vibes, shit to see & do, great beaches. the Basque country is the best part of Spain).
DEMI GOD TIER
Madrid (would be god tier if wasn't so fucking hot or it had a beach. I love Madrid but 38°c 8 hours a day is too much )
GREAT TIER
Seville (really nice place but we ran out of stuff to do, nightlife was a bit shit)
Barcelona (it's fun and all, ticks the boxes but it's a bit of a tourist trap. I've been a few times and I'm always underwhelmed)
Cordoba (Mezquita is GOAT, good for a day but no more)
GOOD TIER
Granada (it's kind of ugly, free food is nice but not that tasty, Alhambra is overrated)
>>1263636
I picked a random picture from my phone why is it sideways reee
how are the women in Spain?
>>1263636
Tell me about Cadiz, what's so nice about it? Isn't it just another andalucian beach town?
Also, have you been to Malaga? I found the food+nightlife there to be pretty good, plus they have awesome beaches, plus it's not overrun by tourists like Sevilla.
Travelling from DEL-KUL in a few hours, and even though Ive flown atleast twice a year for the past 12 years, i am feeling really anxious for this flight generally (doesn't help that I'm travelling alone)
>>1263611
The only thing I am anxious about is not finding the right hub at the airport

Remember all of them come down
Enjoy your flight buddy.
Going on a roadtrip soon with my friend who has never been to the west coast. How does this route look?
>>1263588
my buddy enjoyed Couer d'Alene when he had to live there for work
any reason you're completely skipping cities, even tiny ones that you'll be right on top of like Spokane, Eugene and Salem?
local here; sounds best route. most scenic
>>1263588
It may fuck up the loop, aspect but if you're talking about west coast culture, at least hit up either Seattle or Portland. If you talking about the literal west coast then this route is perfect. Of course its tourist season, so find a place to stash your car if you do go to Seattle (dont know about Portland though. Probably the same). Traffic is so fucked that you'd get to the point of suicidal rage. Also the fuckers cant drive in that city, so keep that in mind.
Going to northern Vermont next week. Any suggestions on places to go? Mostly gonna be kayaking.
>>1263550
I did a daytrip to St Albans and really liked it, but didn't look like there were many places to stay
>>1263599
was there much to do there? i'm staying in burlington
Vermont is cool.
Are you into craft beer at all? They have some highly esteemed breweries in the area that you should check out.
Burlington is OK although I would say it's mostly a partial meme unless you are a college student. Taking a walk down Church street and by the water can be relaxing if you're with a girl or some gay shit like that. Check out the UVM campus at the top of College St at night. It's pretty cool to walk through when you're tripping balls on LSD.
Do you like weed? Check out some of the smoke shops. The bigger-sized one on Church does a lot of live glassblowing and I guess there is a huge local blowing culture so you can go in and check out the "art" or "pieces" by well known reputable local blowers. I guess it can be kinda neat if you're into that shit.
The rest of Burlington is pretty bland. South Burlington is just generic industrialized trash (chain hotels, airport, walmart, etc...) and towards Pine is just more industrial shit and not much culture.
Do you like motorcycles? Rent one and hit the local state forest or mountain. Don't like motorcycles? Hit it anyway. The peace of the Vermont and New Hampshire forests is something that is difficult to find in Massachusetts/New Jersey/downstate new york.

What are other youtube channels like SerpentZA and ADVchina?
ADV is such a cringefest compared to winston
his chink wife is also ugly as fuck
>>1263416
his name is c-milk. he's not that bad, without him winston would come off as really dry since he has no sense of humor
>>1263420
I dunno he comes across incredibly boring and cringy, the type of American you find all over T1 cities. His outlook on most things is just boring and generic to boot.
the Chinese girl tries X! videos are probably the worst offender cringe wise, worst still Winston decided to adopt that format.
I have the opportunity to go to Sri Lanka for a week or two in August. What am I supposed to do in this meme country? I haven't done any research on it at all except look at pretty pictures.
>>1263244
if you like looking at ancient rubb-i mean, historical sites, then just visit the random various sites i guess
if you like nature theres a fuck ton of elephants and a some evasive leopards if you're lucky
if you to stay in modern civilisation, dont leave colombo
>>1263244
>What am I supposed to do in this meme country?
Eat bad food, pay exorbitant rates to enter the historical sites, and fend of some of the most aggressive touts you will ever run into.
>>1263282
if you think theyre aggressive, never go to india
