So, does anyone know a system that would be good for gunslinging and the old west? Something that specifically either focuses on, or just plain has a system for, quickdraw duels.
Aces & Eights. Personally I'd use GURPS but I'm also a giant GURPSfag.

Whats the general consensus on Hutt PCs in the Star Wars RPG? What specializations are they best suited towards? Are they worth it, ridiculous, would you let them in? Just got my hands on the system and was thinking about getting Lords of Nal Hutta.

If playing a game set in the Great Crusade, is it better to have the players be all of the same Legion, or a set of diverse chucklefucks a la Knights Errant?
>>50413286
Depends on the story to tell. I like all of the same legion since the legions were bigger and allowed for more diversity. However, if doing Istvaan or any multi-legion clusterfuck, then I recommend allowing them to play the appropriate legions.

'Tis Your Destiny: Plain Joe 3
Oh, the Trauma: Can't Complain 6
Momma Loves Me Best: Momma HATES Him! 0
Total: 17
Conceptually --
>What he is :
Racial: Half elf base, with Aasimar Template. Solar descendant.
Religious: Tends to follow the sun gods [depending on setting] gods of hope and mercy.
Conceptually: Paladin of Mercy.
Visually he's 7'0'' with a 'solid' build. Long white hair blue eyes and wings though they appear white at first offer a prismatic sheen.
Back ground wise when he was young his mother couldn't afford to keep him and essentially sold him over / gave him to a man of Gentry to work as a page from the age of 5.
He was not the only page and had and older boy to look up to and learn from. Eventually another younger one came along. In his mid teens he begins to serve as a squire to this gentry. Near his later teens his sire fell on the battle field and from then on he ensured his sire's estate was taken care of as well as his family before moving on to join a chapterhouse for his religion. Personality I see him being a very hopeful character who belies people can change and who is willing to help those that show they are trying / willing to work at self improvement. His charismatic demeanor is awkward- When his wings grew in he hadn't known what they were and initially tried pulling out the growths thinking he may have been diseased. He's a bit of a book worm and likes to research things. His MO is aiding others and being of use.
>>50447482
honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about what other people think. Yeah, he's seven foot tall and has fucking prismatic wings, that's a bit weird and screams special snowflake, but who cares? If it fits the tone of the game it fits the tone of the game.
If this thread was just to post this mary sue thing, why didn't you just do that?
>>50447536
I'm honestly interested in what people think makes a 'good paladin'. I've been told by a certain select few that the concept of a Paladin that offers Mercy doe snot make for a paladin. Then again I designed him to fit the noble bright sort of setting.
The way I see it I like to think Paladin is a perfectly viable concept with a redeemer's mindset IE: A Redeemer's Mind Set
Associates A redeemer may ally with an evil creature as long as she feels the creature is capable of redemption. A redeemer may accept henchmen, followers, or cohorts who are not lawful good provided they demonstrate they are willing to follow her and seek betterment under her tutelage.
The Book of Exalted Deeds states that a Good character must not fall prey to falling in to denying mercy. If they surrender you should take care of the accordingly.
It explains how if you don't show them that they can be accepted welcomed if they change their ways they will feel isolated and assuredly slip back to old ways to feel accepted. He often times tries to use how he treat some one as a means of showing them they can be accepted that there is hope and he's willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and help the along the way. He tries to make it so they feel like they can confide in him and tries to build on that feeling to help support the change.
Visually I wanted him to be painfully awkward and obvious, so he's terrible at disguise or hiding and those sorts of things.
>>50447648
I would say a Paladin isn't about mercy, specifically. They are capable of granting it, but that isn't the focus.
Instead, a Paladin is about Justice, but can also be about redemption. If a Bandit surrenders to a Paladin, they have to be willing to pay penance for their crimes, and work to redeem themselves. The time mercy is unwarranted is when it's clear that the act of surrender is less out of guilt or a possible change of heart, and more as a last selfish attempt to prolong their life and possibly escape later. In those instances, it is perfectly reasonable for the Paladin to fulfill his role as Judge, Jury, and Executioner.
Still, I would say if you go down this road, you want to think a bit in the mindset of a TV cop. You bring the hammer down hard on ringleaders and assholes, but give more favorable outs to those punk kids who got swept up in something because they don't know better.
Again, it all really boils down to justice and prevention. The punishment must fit the crime, but you also can't give a weak punishment for someone who won't learn their lesson.
Pick your favorite character from this universe. Got one? You sure that's the one you want? Ok.They are hunted down by a giant red dragon, who confesses to being in love with them. And wants to keep your favorite character as their "greatest treasure." How fucked are they?

Quick question for /tg/:
What options exist for cowboy&indian themed adventures?
Say I wanted to dm a wild west campaign, with somewhat accurate-to-the-time-period firearms & weapons, but still include elements of magic & mysticism.
What should I use?
I've heard mixed results about bringing firearms into d&d/pathfinder systems.
I've thought about maybe adapting shadowrun, but I would be cutting out several classes and mechanics entirely from that system.
>inb4 GURPS
>>50446629
Deadlands
No experience with it, but Deadlands sounds like exactly what you're talking about.
>>50446629
>I've heard mixed results about bringing firearms into d&d/pathfinder systems.
Generally it's a bad idea, the abstract nature of the combat system and HP doesn't mesh well with firearms.
There are a number of wild west themed RPGs out there, though, and several have magic and such. Deadlands is the big name, but others include Wild Cards, Go Fer Yer Gun, Aces and Eights, Blood and Bullets, Boot Hill, and Tombstones 'n Tumbleweeds.
I just started playing 5e with my longtime friends and we are all really enjoying ourselves. For Christmas I want to get everyone something tabletop related, but since we're all new I'm not sure what's out there and was hoping you guys could help me out.
Also, general gift ideas thread.
>>50446181
Maybe some artisan dice? They look nice, they're functional, and there's a lot of options for matching them to the specific recipient's tastes (wood, metal, stone, bone, horn, etc).

really cant go wrong with new fresh matched sets of dice in everyone's favorite colors.
what game do you guys play? a hard-cover copy of several game books for the group to have or share may not be amiss.
are you in the middle of a long term campaign?
do you mind spending a bit more?
hero-forge some custom minis for the group.
bump, I'm in the same situation
We all know that the Ork codex is a useless heap of gubbinzless gits and rules made by stoopid 'umies. Let's sort this out. We'll be here all night if dat's what it takes so get workin' boyz.
We'll start with the easiest question: should boys have S 4 instead of Furious Charge?
>>50445357
Yes
Fix their leadership check rules.
Fix lack of shooting.
Add Squiggoths.
Make some potentially devestating, orky rules.
How about dont play the game
My former teacher made a really, really simple office supply wargame that I will share with tg.
This game was meant to be modded, and the basic rules are intentionally threadbare. Common, easy mods are stuff like hitpoints and terrain; try and make creative ones below. Just don't make it 40k level complex unless you really have to.
Making the game:
-Find a bunch of similar objects and a bunch of paper.
-Choose objects to be units, and code them with folded sheets of paper. You can color code them with construction paper, stick a number on the thing and write it on the paper, etc. Fold the paper in half. You should have at least 3 units per player.
After that, take 3 small slips or cutouts of paper for each unit. Label one rock, another paper and the last scissors. Stick them under the unit's paper.
Then, go find a ruler and a table to play on.
At the start of the turn, you choose the Rock, Paper or scissors card from under the paper and put it in the middle of the fold. Once all units have had a card selected, they are all revealed, and that unit becomes either a rock, a paper, or a scissors for the turn. I'll explain what that does in moving and firing.
Then, decide on the starting player. They move one of their units. The next player in line (or just the other player) moves one of their units. Go on until all the units have moved.
Rock units move six inches; papers move nine; scissors move three.
Then, in the same order if you can be bothered to keep track, the units will fire.
A paper will fire three inches; a rock six; a scissors nine.
In vanilla rules, one shot is an automatic kill, but that can be modded away.
Tell me what you think of this, and suggest mods if you like it.
Simple but elegant. I expected some sort of rock paper scissors style x beats y but loses to z though.
>>50445263
Nice and simple. I think I'll give it a try with my nephews at Christmas.
If you haven't played Tom Clancy's Endwar, they use the rock paper scissors rules for most of the game
How do I win?
I'm just kidding. My question is how do I get the most enjoyment from D&D?
If it helps I'm a human with a longsword and a bow, I'm a folkhero, but not noble. I think I'm better than I probably am. Would it help to post a few stats?
Most likely by going back and picking a better system.
