I'm looking for a new case, I've been using the one i got from my first deck builders kit for so long its starting to fall apart.

i was hoping for a more permanent storage. preferably something as easy to transport.

Was hoping you could help me flesh out this idea for a space marine chapter.

The Somber Gargoyles are a secretive Dark Angels successor chapter tasked with guarding the planet Quasimodo and its secrets.

Now, gene-seed mutations are often quite dramatic. Prospective new successor chapters may end up with special abilities (such as bone spikes, or heightened psychic ability) or they may be so catastrophically defective that they must be immediately aborted and purged from the record.
For purposes of this concept, let's say that a certain number of attempts in creating new successor chapters result in gene-seed mutations with more mundane defects. The Magos Biologis might develop a promising new batch of space marines only to note minor but highly debilitating mutations resulting in memory loss, seizures, or muscle atrophy.
Rather than terminate these rejects outright, suppose the Imperium were to instead allow these misfit marines to live out the rest of their lives under observation on a remote death world? That way, at least they might yet yield some potentially useful data.

Quasimodo is a once-populous former hive-world turned cratered death-world in a quiet corner of Imperium space. It is here that defective astartes offshoots may be permitted to live out fulfilling lives exploring catacombs and fighting monsters under genetorial scrutiny. However, they cannot be permitted to self-rule; a chapter of healthy, loyal space marines must be assigned to guard over the planet Quasimodo to keep its inhabitants contained and hidden.

The Gargoyles have had morale problems in the past. They used to recruit from a feudal world near planet Quasimodo. The valorous people of that world make for fine astartes indeed, but unfortunately they are poorly suited to the Gargoyle's mission. Even with hypno-indoctrination, recruits from that world often fell into despair upon learning their purpose, and tended to abuse their wards on Quasimodo.
The Gargoyles began settling human colonists on Quasimodo to live among the misfit marines residing there. The death world's conditions would make for hardened recruits, and exposure to their future wards would help to instill them with a sense of duty appropriate to their task.

I think the main issue is, why have an entire Marine chapter guardians defective Marines? It sounds like a waste of resources and it seems like the gargoyles wouldn't get involved in very many wars.

Maybe put a more potent threat under Quasimodo. Like a Necron tomb or a Chaos Warp Portal.

>gets super grumpy if he's loosing and refuses to play either of his two other armies because they don't do as well

He's single handedly ruining our groups game night, theres already talk from people who aren't gonna show because of him, I've tried calling him out but I have to bully the fuck out of him to make him change even the tiniest cheese out and he puts it right back in next week and I don't wanna do that every week

I try not to be, and I'm getting better.

But I do get a bit pissy when I lose epicly. like one time when I still played 40k I went up against Grey knights with my tyranids, I wanna say... 1500 pts (even though I had to dump every upgrade possible to bring MY force to that number) utterly annihilated in 2 turns, he took no casualties whatsoever. I was in a pretty sour mood after that.

Alright, /tg/, it's time to switch gears.

The fact of the matter is that only about half the people who frequent /tg/ play games, the rest are here for Fantasy and Sci-Fi Navelgazing. This would be fine, except for the fact that it's led /tg/ to stagnate. The community has become toxic, especially towards those who want to create content, like artists, authors, and homebrewers.

So, here's what I propose: let's get /tg/ back into gaming. Sure, there's the Game Finder threads, but that's basically a Roll20 Beg Thread at this point. No, let's take the stress out of finding a group and going through that whole slog. RPGs take time and effort, and you guys don't have that. Let's cut to playing some games already. Here's a few resources for virtual games that don't require heavy computer specks or money, but still let you have an enjoyable experience in a hurry:

I will be adding and expanding to this list as the thread goes on. Feel free to provide suggestions and I will add to it.

I hope to post this thread on a weekly basis. Thoughts?

Nothing.

The user is more important than the weapon. I just assume that whatever the character will be using is a weapon fitting for whatever he ends up doing. Modelling the minimal statistical differences between weapons is almost always a waste of time.

What are the best principles that any normalfag should remember?

My approach at the beginning is to never move into a spot I am not covered by another piece and then to expand so I cover as much territory as possible

What else should I be doing that isn't memorizing openings which I cbf with?

More important than openings are endgames.
Most piece combinations have a simple algorithm for checkmate during the endgame.
Memorize every single one, they come up pretty much every single game.
You'll look really, really stupid if you fuck up the endgame.

After you've got endgames down, start workings on openings.
You only need one at first, but you should recognize all of them.

For chess?

You have three underlying principles in the opening. You want to, in no particular order

A) Get your pieces (not pawns) off the back rank
B) Control central squares
C) Keep your king somewhere safe.

Obviously, these interrelate somewhat. If you have a huge development lead, your king is probably safe wherever it happens to be; if you have to keep parrying attacks at your king, you're probably too busy to control the center, etc.

You don't need to keep your pieces all supporting each other, only if your opponent is threatening a square.

Also, in general, not an opening principle, but the more squares an individual piece can move to next turn, the stronger it is. Try to maximize that while minimizing your opponents.

Trade pieces when you're up material, trade pawns when you're down; that tends to maximize endgame chances.
