>It's a you gotta kill this guy in his castle quest
>his castle is in a forest
>The Wizard is all into fire magic
>Players go "Well let's just burn the forest !"
What to do ?
>>50460531
There is nothing wrong with forest fires desu.
>>50460557
Yeah but it's just too easy, I wanna mess with them a little
>>50460625
The guy in the castle reacts when they start a massive fire, retaliating with whatever he has available.
How do you depict your mages? Do you depict them as a typical white European male with long robes?
No. Mages come in shapes and sizes in my games. The only thing they have in common is that they tend to be eccentric, both terms of appearance and personality.
Some look like this.

This one always seemed good to me for a creepy game
http://cthulhumusic.com/
Games that would make for interesting RPG settings.
League of Legends use to have interesting lore until riot stopped caring and DOTA seems interesting but again valve didnt care to expand the lore.
>>50458673
Infinity. Really interesting setting.
>>50458673
Dark Souls. Only problem is figuring out a plot that's not "go immolate yourselves"
>>50459012
It already has an RPG though

Why is it impossible to make magic systems that feel good?
I'm having such trouble coming up with magic systems that I like. None of them feel very good.
>Vancian casting; Overly relies on preparation, strict spells and limits kind of boring
>Ritual casting; Takes away action-packed Wizards
>Mana casting; feels too 'video gamey'
What's a good magic system? Or at least, what's your favorite?
>>50458406
Suggested reading, look through the PDF request thread's archive for them.
>Ars Magica for high level abilities and flexible system
>Unknown Armies: mostly good for fluff, but the charge system's not a half-bad way to do things
>Reign with its skill-based schools of magic for high-magic settings.
>Shadowrun: not my thing, but its magic system has some neat bits
>Ironclawhas a pretty neat way of going about its system, basically take a feat for the basic tricks of a school and then a feat for each major spell learned
I've got details on some of them if you don't feel like digging through the Archive right now.
>>50458477
Never heard of Reign before. Could you tell me about it?
>>50458406
There is always the 40krpg system, magic has no real limits on how much you can cast it, but each time you do you risk bad things happening.
>What is Mutants and Masterminds?
"Mutants & Masterminds, or M&M for short, is an adventure roleplaying game in which you, the players, take on the roles of fictional superheroes having thrilling adventures in an imaginary world. One player, the Gamemaster, takes on the job of creating that world and the stories for the other players to take part in. Together, you create your own tales of heroic action and adventure, like your favorite superhero comic books, television shows, or movies. You don’t need any expensive computers or video game systems to take part though. You just need a book, some friends, and plenty of imagination."
The game is currently in its 3rd edition.

Interesting stat challenges: What are some weird but ways to explain Damage effects that have Alternate Resistance 0/r Dodge and/or Parry?
I was thinking of some weird magical rapier that, rather than simply damaging the opponent with stabs, punishes the opponent for "losing the duel" via supernatural forces and damages with a parry resistance (they'd get the chance to resist Parry after the attack roll unless you did some weird stuff with Reaction: When within range of an enemy).
That could be interesting OP, I once used a sword that was Damage 8 Alternate Resistance: Fortitude, the blade was almost but not quite ethereal and instead of cutting drained the life force of whatever it hit
>>50458277
I decided to quickly stat up the Rapier user as I was "threatening" to do last thread. Looking at it I can already see what I could do better (can't believe I forgot Strength Effect Multiattack, also deception isn't needed really when you have agile feint as I just figured out from the description of the fightign style).
>>50458277
Hello M&M General.
My group and I have decided to run a game of M&M and I need to 1. get resources for playing the game and 2. get a premade adventure.
This is more of a break for me to continue to write the campaign for our D&D 5e game (I am unable to produce 6 hours of content a week for 6 players)
Anything I should know before I even start? We are all new to the system.

What's the difference between High Fantasy and Low/other Fantasy?
Saying it's 'not on earth or on earth' is not a good enough answer. No bullshit please.
>>50455640
Amount of magic and other supernatural features involved. There is no hard boundary.
>>50455640
>The answer is not a good enough answer
Anon, if you didn't want to know, why the hell did you ask the question?
High: everything is covered in shit golems
Low: everything is covered in plain old shit
Do they need a lore nerf?
>>50454499
I think everyone needs a lore nerf. Almost everyone, at least.
Will cleanse the galactic void of Tyranids for inertialess FTL cheese drives
>>50454499
No. They're adversarial, so they need to be portrayed as an unremitting, inexorable force.

I don't. The post-apocalypse is boring as shit after you realise it's a titanic map filled with inbreds and dungeons.
Campaign ideas thread? Campaign ideas thread.
>>50451343
I'll bite, here's one I just made up off the top of my head.
>Monsters and demons and shit have been ravaging the kingdom
>Players have to act as clean up, kill these strange, alien creatures
>Finally manage to find the source, a wizard in a tower deep in a distant mountain range
>After a perilous journey they fight their way to the inner sanctum
>He's actually super chill and very surprised they are there, frightened and confused that they want to murder him
>He's been experimenting with extradimensional magic and accidentally made a hole
>Didn't realize that creatures are leaking elsewhere in the world
>He can't close the portal in his sanctum, something is keeping it open on the other side
>Players now have to go through the nightmare world that's connected to theirs and destroy whatever is on the other side
>>50451546
I like it. The "BBEG causing these monsters to spawn is actually a clueless albeit chill dude" idea.
>>50451343
There's a tyrant, a recent coup attempt, and a shitload of hangings day in and day out on the Nevergreen tree in the middle of town.
Lately all the water in the city turns into blood and back every now and again. Sometimes it stays blood for a few days at a time. There's vampires in the city. They love this shit and some will claim credit for themselves or their god. If the party actually manages to get in touch with the vampire god he's pretty unhappy with the whole thing. Vampires are supposed to kill for their sustenance damn it!
The real culprit is some dude making homunculi using an accurate-ish recipe. You put dung and the cum of a hanged man in a bottle and feed it blood over a period of months. What with all the hangings in the past few years he's well on his way to breeding a proper army. I haven't really figured out how he's turning rivers to blood yet though.
what kind of helmets do horned characters use?
>>50451321
Helmets with slits in them so the horns can fit.
>>50451321
The kind with holes/slots
Maybe something that fits on as multiple segments
>>50451321
Same types goats use in Ironclaw.
