So my friend bought the old 2013 Naya Precon and doesnt like any of the commanders.
He wanted to try Uril and asked for my help but doesn't want to spend more than $50 to test it out.
Our group is pretty casual with no strong tutors, barely any "good" board wipes and limited control and removal (seriously they all need help because its a bit ridiculous.)

Was wondering how this looked:

What is your favorite RPG and whom and why would you recommend it?

Mine's Warhammer Fantasy 2e, because I love the setting, that's a mixture of fantasy, horror and satire/comedy. Also I am a huge fan of the magic system (with a very small change) because it's dangerous and magic isn't the easy solution to anything. The rules are easy and deadly, character creation is fast.

I'd recommend it anyone who wants to play a gritty fantasy game that doesn't take itself too seriously.

But OP, I *do* have a cat.
>>
What would happen if I used Merging+Aspect Manifestation on a Supernatural angel like Zachariah? Assuming it would even work (which I'm doubtful of for several reasons), would it get the rest of Heaven gunning for my ass? I know God himself probably wouldn't care, given his abandonment and the fact he doesn't mind our deuteragonists (who have killed several angels a piece and aren't exactly moral paragons themselves), but I assume that the rest of the Host would start looking for me. Whether they could find me is another matter entirely, but that's beside the point.

Can a language be feared/worshipped by other lesser race?
29 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
It needs properties beyond normal language, aka it needs to be magical. EG Dovahzul actually warps the world when spoken by a master (and that many of the ancient users were actual dragons doesn't hurt) and the elven tongue from Eragon (I know, I know, but this idea was one of the goodish ones) was used to form spells and impossible to tell lies with.

Often, in demonology/old one stuff, speaking the name of the demon/horror brings a part of it into our world, meaning that their language has power beyond English.

In my current setting, magic is rather wild and dangerous, but the ancient elven language allows one levels of control over magic. If you use such a language, the speakers have to be dead/rare/really really powerful.

Sure why not.

>First RPG

D&D 3.5 when I was 13-14

>all the campaigns you can remember
I'm going to call a campaign something that lasted more than like 6 sessions.

So, one in highschool that lasted 1.5 years that I played in.

Ran a 3.5 game in College for ~6 months

Then ran a 4e game for ~1 year

Then another 4e game that lasted ~4 months until schedules fell apart.

Then ran another 4e game for about 1 year that actually completed with the players beating the BBEG and epilogue stuff.

Currently running a 5e game that's been going for nearly a year and playing in a 5e game that's been going for 5 months.

With sprinklings of other 2-3 session games here and there in between.

>Genre

All fantasy, ranging from high to low. Some pirates, some survival, currently running intrigue.

>Any other RPG related accomplishments

My friends will still talk moments/dungeons/NPCs they loved years later and it makes everything worth it.
>>
>>50444312
You asked.

>first RPG
AD&D, first edition. We were wacky preteens doing randumb bullshit and torturing goblins and eating chips and having a blast.
>all the campaigns you can remember, length, genre
1. AD&D wackiness. Lasted a long damn time.
2. Gamma World, a very old edition, more wackiness, lasted about three months.
3. More AD&D, lasted about six months perhaps?
4. A bout with ESR("extremely simple roleplaying"), about a month
5. An odd 3.0-esque "homebrew", about five months
6. D&D 5th edition, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, played at my FLGS, about three months
7. A game of "Fiasco!" set in the Midwest, an afternoon
8. D&D 5th edition, Lost Mines of Phandelver (GMed), about 5 months maybe? Scheduling is hard.
9. Two sessions of "The Warren," (Essentially Bunnies & Burrows with the Apocalypse World system, AFAIK), about a month, on hiatus as far as I can tell
10. D&D 5th edition, Princes of the Apocalypse, currently running, for about 3 months now I'd guess
That's just off the top of my head though. ESR and Gamma World were sci-fi, Fiasco! was realistic almost-freeform, Warren was realistic, the rest were fantasy.
>any other RPG related accomplishments or projects
I'm working on a setting, but it's mostly just an excuse to doodle maps and brainstorm mythical deities/cultures in class. And my players tell me I do a good job.
>>

I read through the AD&D first ed. books a bunch when I was young, but I could never find a group.

How would you play a lawful evil character, what could be his end goal except for taking over the throne?
How did you play your LE pc, what will a LE being do to gain the advantage and how will he execute it?
What kind of acts will he do, for example, blackmailing someone, tricking someone into signing a contract that will screw him over in the end, reporting a crime to take out his competition.

Although I've never DMed on a system that uses alignments, I've DMed plenty of villains who had the law by their sides or even actively enforced it. When the law itself is unmoral, the moral thing to do is resist.

In this sense, it's not the villain who has an active plan to do anything, but the PCs. The villain is just defending the statu quo. Bonus points if the statu quo is unmoral and unjust but arguably benefical for the nation as a whole (never the individuals if you don't want your PCs to change sides eagerly)

Writing up an adventure I'm gonna GM with some friends, but I'm having a bit of writers block and I can't think of a good adventure, so I need some help please.

I'm not completely useless as a GM so here's the basic setting:

The story is going to take place in 2167, 90 years after the Great War between the events of Fallout 1 and 2, in Louisiana in and around New Orleans. From the lore I can gather that there is supposed to be vast plant and wild-life mutation in this swampy area.

I need a start-point for how my players meet and a basic goal for the campaign. I can then flesh out side-quests on my own.

They all come from the same vault. One day, the plant roots cause too much damage to their room. They are locked out from the rest of the Vault for the safety of others, but tasked with retrieving stuff that will help those left behind.

Vault Twist: [spoilers]The Vault was designed to constantly and slowly collapse, forcing the inhabitants to tinier and tinier rooms. A few drugs in the air vents and the PCs and all the people there are 6 inches tall.[/spoilers]
>>
Why is it always New Orleans?

Don't get me wrong, it's a perfectly good setting, but I feel like there are other unexplored regions of Fallout that could be used.

Like the Mobile Bay Area.
>>
>>50421739
You could go with a simple raiding party that is starting to attack the settlement tat they find first. Like, after they leave the vault they go to a settlement and find some people who take them in. Raiders are threatening the village, party deals with raiders, heroes get their names out there and someone gives them their big quest. It's simple yet effective.

Guild Ball: Steamcon Edition

I know there's a decent crowd of Guild Ball players here on /tg/, so I'm wondering if any of you are paying attention to Steamcon and all the news coming out from there.

We've got new cards for every existing player. The Engineers have been almost completely overhauled, and the Alchemists got a pretty significant rework too. Obulus and Silence both ate very sizable nerfs, and Avarisse & Greede lost the activation advantage that had made them tournament staples but instead now have a longer goal threat than any non-captain striker in the game. There's just absolute tons of changes on almost every card in the game; the number of unchanged players are probably in the single digits.

Here's the full set of cards, courtesy of Reddit:

With over 5000 games played, Team Brisket has been announced to have won the Butcher's Civil War -- albeit by a margin of less than a percent. As a result of this, in season 3 the Butchers are going to be getting a new player -- no, not a captain! -- and that is Veteran Ox, the Master Butcher himself brought back into the fray.

Looks like a bitching model, too.
>>
More news on the Farmers guild has come out as well. They showed the models for a number of their lineup in the keynote presentation, as well as announcing the name of their captain: Thresher.

What is more interesting, though, is that they're moving the game towards preassembled hard plastic miniatures in the same production style as the Kickoff! miniatures. New guilds, including the Farmer's guild, are going to be sold in 6 player packs complete with cardboard tokens and health dials and everything you need to be able to play those characters right in the box. The idea is to be able to slot them in and out of the Kickoff! product interchangeably. Expansions to new guilds are going to apparently be medium sized boxes with 4 models in them. Is that how the Farmers will be? This they didn't say. 8 farmers, by other people's counting, have already been revealed, so to have the 6 + 4 lineup they'll need an extra two models yet unrevealed.
>>
And, of course, there are new players. They confirmed that each guild is going to get at least one completely new player in season 3. The Brewer's Pintpot and the Mason's Granite has already been shown, but here are the Fishermen's Hag and the Mortician's Brainpan & Memory.

Hag is said to have the ability to reposition models on the pitch, and Brainpan & Memory are a two model duo which probably use the same dual activation schema that the new Avarisse & Greede do.

While something that can otherwise be overlooked and ignored, something I wonder is when wearing power armor and seeing how they are usually designed, how do you go to the bathroom in them?

A classic example is Dune where the Still suits (not technically power armor but whatever) is designed to take body waste and convert it into water.

Perhaps having nanomachines that live in your guts and your kidneys and breakdown body waste to be used again or perhaps used to power the nanomachines themselves? What would the consequence be of not actually pooping or peeing for longer periods of time?

I agree, there is (and never) should be a mechanical component to it. simply an aspect of worldbuilding to help get an idea of what people wearing fully sealed armor for long periods of time would have to deal with.

Hello, I want to run a game via text for my group. How does /tg/ recommend I go about it? Currently I'm on the fence between email or group chat? Is there a website/app similar to roll20 that is more geared for text based games? Any opinions thoughts about running a strictly text based game? Any tips?

Text based RPG thread I guess?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.

Text is a entirely fine way to run RPGs. Using IRC to run games is a time honored tradition. While some games like 3.5 and 4E require a grid in order to resolve combat, most can be run via theater of the mind. It's a great format for dungeon crawls, as RAW B/X wants the players to do all the mapping themselves. I ran a Maid RPG campaign last week, and everything went smoothly.

Look into IRC roleplaying channels OP. There is an official /tg/ IRC server (Suptg), though I use Rizon personally.
