Anyone have experience using a pack to carry your logs long distance?
I'm thinking about buying one of those $50 frames used for deer. Think it'll do the job?

yeah, clean up the branch and tie a loop on it and drag it whole don't cut it up.
you will move more with less effort.

Yeah ok.
a friend and I recently carried pieces of firewood in paper bags to a quarry for a fire. It worked well enough, even if the weight was killer and the idea stupid. A paper bag/satchel will carry more than that pack at less cost anyways

it's how i always do it if there is no big fallen tree around my camp i drag a whole tree sometimes from miles away to the camp. if i can shoulder it which is possible with a 12 meter long pine i don't have to drag much easier.
for really long distances and a lot of wood I'd want a cart, or if it's just a bundle I'd just tie a loop around it and strap it to the bottom of my pack.
I don't see anything wrong with a pack like that. It would be great to pack in logs if you're staying in an 'hike in' camp site without any real fuel around. I think I may end up buying a frame like that for this very reason.
you could make your own pack frame.

I really like the way Dave Canterbury put this PVC frame and pack together, it could work for lots of stuff and it's super cheap to make but VERY functional.

Careful packing in firewood. It isn't permitted in a lot of places due to the high risk of bringing in various pests, like the emerald ash borer

You're a fucking idiot

wow really made me think
great reply

pvc is not especially strong it gets fucked up by uv easily and cold makes i brittle.
it will not be anywhere near as strong as any metal frame.

You are right. I maxed out at 45+lbs and 1000' elevation change in 2 miles, loop at 6.6 miles with this frame pack. But I wouldn't want to drag a log that far.

PVC frame is fine, but for $40 usd this has AWESOME waist belt and adjustments for fitting with aluminum frame. Try that diy. Just pony up $40.
