okay so I noticed I eat because I'm bored and because it's routine. I also eat calorie dense food. Yesterday, I had two snack size packet thingys of cheez its in the morning and some water and that's all I ate because I was anxious and busy all day. I wasn't hungry. When I'm depressed and bored though, I eat mindlessly. What do I do? I don't want to be anxious all the time to not eat :/

Excess anything (excess being that is pushes you over your TDEE) will result in it being stored as fat. There's nothing special about sugar in that regard.
Maybe you could make that argument for Fructose since it can only really be metabolized by the liver, so the rest will be preferentially converted to triglycerides once the liver is full. So if you have a big fruit smoothie with a high fructose load, it might be worse than eating the same amount of sugar in glucose based candy form. So in this instance, the 'clean' food (fruit) is actually worse than the 'dirty' food from a weight loss/gain perspective.
