Are there any good youtube videos or articles about how to use these? Types, what drill size should i use etc.
How much weight can i put on them? Size and type of the screw i should use them with?
Are there articles about this hitting NASA level of autism? (like with that NASA soldering guide)
I am mostly drilling shit into wall made of bricks and plaster.

They come with instructions. They will tell you the hole size for you to pick the drill size, how deep, and what kind of screws. How much weight depends on what you are putting the holes in, and that depends on the actual structure of your building, so it is a widely uncontrolled environment so it is impossible to have specific guidelines other than general rules of thumb.

How much weight <-- assume zero because your wall can have defect and will crumble at exactly the point you drill, if you are really unlucky. As long as you don't go full retard i.e. mount a car on a wall with one of these, you are fine.
>>
>>1041851
Use drill that is about 2mm wider than hole. Than just the hammer plastic bit in the wall
>>
>>1041851
Use nail-in-anchors or rawlbolts instead if its a heavy weight that you're mounting

I have a DVD Philips Model 627K, but sometimes the screenplay where I spot the green numbers of reproduction sometimes the DVD don't turn on those lights, and usually just play the movies without sound. Just sometimes works fine.

Any hint to fix this shit? And not, I'm not a deaf person, the problem is the dvd.

Ip man...I mean OP man, just go to your Kwoon or Temple with a tape measure, pencil and paper.
Measure and draw. These things are really simple, not even glue or nails holding them together.
Cost? It's made from a tree trunk and branches.
I'd say $0 to $500
These were built in 1662 really low tech.
You will need to learn to use a chisel and hammer.

Anyone have experience with these?
I've a TV that's playing sound and showing picture but the backlight's not lighting.
There's two backlight strips and each has 11 LEDs on it.
I pulled the reflectors off so I could test them with a multimeter.
I did a diode test on them all (multimeter can
actually light them) and one LED is blown.

Is it possible to replace the single LED? I assume it's just some surface mount white LED.
Are they high power or something? I held a through hole LED in place while powering up the tv and all the LEDs came on but the through-hole one blew in a few seconds.

Hey /diy/

I want to make a custom stock for my AR-15. I want to make it of some kind of plastic. I want it to be similar in construction to the picture (Magpul STR).

How should i go about making it?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Plastic is hard to work, and is generally cast in molds.

Unless you fall for the 3d printing meme, you probably won't make a quality product. And even then, even a 3d printed part needs a lot of finishing and it'll still require assembly and metal parts (springs and pins) if you want an adjustable stock.

If you're serious, though, you could probably get plastic tubing or sheets something make your stock from a pattern, kinda like prefab/flatpack furniture, but it'll look janky as fuck.

Just buy a stock, dude. Or carve one from literally any other substance.

I'd almost say to buy a spare of your model buffer tube, fill the butt-stock detents with somethi, and make that part of the brick press/casting mold in >>1040583 with some HDPE appropriate release agents.

Then just carve it to form with knives and saws. Drill a hole and find some metal hardware to use for the detent.

My spidey sense tells me that is not a "plug" or socket at all, and is just a cooker connection unit. The neutral is loose. The knockout at the bottom is where the cable from the cooker would enter.

You are correct sorry mate the brown and blue wires enter from the bottom and the yellow and green wire goes in at the top the problem is I cant work out where the wires from the cooker go in to this unit

Could I simulate a 433 MHz signal with wifi packets?
I want to control my light switches with my phone and computer, but tellsticks are too bulky, and wifi is already in both devices.

I'm thinking that if I want to send data over 433 MHz, I can just send the same bits repeated 12 times (5 GHz wifi, 5196 MHz = 12*433 MHz). Would that work? Maybe power levels are too low?

Also, if it works in theory, I guess drivers might need to be hacked, but that can't be too hard for the computer at least.
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
No, you can't. The wi-fi signal is frequency modulated which means that for example a bit 1 is transferred by sending a 5.1 GHz signal and bit 0 is tranferred with a 5.15 Ghz signal.

Basic electronics. You should understand Ohm's law, how resistor, diode, capacitor, inductance, motor, transistor work and how and when to use them. Learn what you can connect directly to an Arduino pin, and what you cannot.
Basic soldering, find some junk boards and train to solder/desolder stuff.
Try doing some stuff in an emulator, circuits.io for online, proteus for offline.

So I want to run a fan to periodically circulate the air inside a small camper as it sits empty in the winter. Prevent condensation and mold and the like. The plan is to put a DC 12-24v to 3-12v adjustable converter between a south-facing solar panel (overpriced coleman-branded 40w from canadian tire) and the fan (rated 9v, 0.7A). That way, the panel output voltage can fluctuate, and the fan will run whenever there's enough juice to spin it. Running overnight isn't really important, so there's no battery (would probably freeze).

Is there anything major I'm forgetting that might result in burning the camper down? If I set the converter to a lower voltage, would that allow the fan to run at a slower speed, but more often if it's cloudier? It does still turn over at 4.5-7.5v without trouble.

How do I get rid of and prevent sigarette smoke in my room?

I just moved into a new place and there is a very prominent smell of sigarette smoke in my room, which I'm pretty sure comes from the guy one floor down, who's been here for years.

How do I get the smell out of the wooden walls? I'm thinking of washing everything with "green soap" as it's called here in Norway, soap used for wooden surfaces. I also read something about vinegar removing smells. Should I dilute that and smear it on the walls and floor first?

What ways can the smoke come in? There is no ventilation to or from the room, so I think it must be coming through the wooden floor. Should I buy laquer and give everything a coating to seal it up? I could consider laying plastic film and laying a new floor on top of this one.

Any other tips? I'm going to keep some plants in the room as well and see if that helps freshen the air.
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1041367
You cant get it out, it is the oil in the smoke and it will get into the wood.

If smoke can come up from downstairs from your floor, your building is fucking low standard, and is not worth saving.

There is no other way the smoke inside the room is from anywhere other than inside the room. Unless both have windows directly above, and both are open all the time to allow the smoke to go in from the outside.

Once the oil takes hold in the walls etc it will be impossible to mask it with any amount of plants. Perhaps with industrial sized air filters, maybe can mask it while it is on, but it won't get rid of it.

Wooden walls<--just replace the walls.
>>
>>1041367
If renting, talk to your landlord, and bring up anything in the contract about smoke / non-smoking areas. If owning, scrub everything down with soapy water, dry, then fumigate with ozone. What kind of floors does your building have? OSB on wooden beams could let smoke through, but poured concrete wouldn't without openings. Check carefully for utility openings like electrical, data, plumbing, etc. Smoke might pass through a light opening on the ceiling below, work its way through the walls, and enter your room through an electrical outlet.
>>
>>1041376
Thanks. I really hope you're wrong in that theres absolutely no way of washing it out, but I have little reason to doubt you.

But the smoke coming from downstairs doesn't come through the solid floor planks themselves but I'd guess through the numerous tiny gaps between planks and behind skirting. I hope lacquer and some other filling material can do the job.

I'm not replacing the walls, I'm sure I'd never be allowed to. If it has to come to that I'll just move out as soon as I can, but I'd prefer not to.

>>1041378
Thanks, I'll keep all those gaps and openings in mind. It's a wooden building I'm quite sure, as is usual here. But the building seems to be very old.

Fumigation with ozone, I did not know this was a thing. But I think I can't take such drastic measures here, I live with 3 others in an apartment.

I've had this problem with my ER-5, where when trying to start the bike the starter cranks the engine but it won't get running. If I turn the ignition off and back on, it usually starts after one or two times. But I would like to fix it before selling the bike. I've done following:

1. Checked the plugs, coils and leads. OK
2. Checked compression, very good.
3. Checked magneto, pickup coil
4. Checked CDI box, which gave some strange values so I replaced it, didn't help
5. Checked fuel tank, fuel lines and fuel tap and cleaned if necessary, all seems to be ok.
6. Removed the carb and took it apart cleaning it (was very clean to begin with).
7. Checked the killswitch, sidestand switch and neutral switch.
8. Checked the wiring, although I'm not sure I did this entirely correctly since I'm not that familiar with diagnosing electrical systems

My best guess it's some kind of electrical problem since bike will start if I turn it off and on few times. Any ideas on what to do?

Check the battery, check the fuses, look for any bad earths or corroded connections, you might also like to take a look at the carb, especially the idle jet/choke.

>Removed the carb and took it apart cleaning it (was very clean to begin with).
Sorry I missed that, check the battery, do a drop test on the battery.
>>
Er6 here.
My bet, based on experience is a faulty down sensor, or faulty kickstand switch. Hence you have to switchy on off to start it. Even if you have checked em, check the harness, and even as far as replace anyway. Ive seen many cases here in ausfagland where guys in your situ play tinkerbell for weeks then sell it, and the newfag literally spends $25 and fixes it.
Dump the codes bro, it will tell you whats up.

If photon upconverting materials exist, how come I can't use them to turn heat into electricity?
34 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1041313
Because the useful energy that can be extracted by any process is thermodynamically limited to at most Carnot efficiency, which depends on temperature. Though temperature isn't usually associated with individual particles like photons, temperature is a measure of kinetic energy per particle, so it's calculable. Visible-range photons have a thermodynamic temperature of multiple tens of thousands of degrees, and so energy manipulation involving them can in principle be rather efficient. Low-level heat sources have a much lower maximum efficiency. Additionally, the "temperature" of electricity is also very high, with one Volt representing about 11,000 degrees, so "upconverting" thermal photons into a useful Voltage would be much more involved than visible or near-visible upconversion. That said, some people are working on this as a way to make solar-thermal electricity more efficient.
>>
>>1041313

Because the Seebeck effect works well enough on the small scale, sterling engines work well enough on the medium scale and turbines work well enough on the large scale. There is no point in that continuum where infra red photonic capture is best. Also capturing radiated infra red energy and fucking around with it is less effective than capturing kinetic heat directly.

Even if the use of radiated heat was desirable you could simply use infra red tuned photoelectric cells directly without up converting the photons.

There is some interesting work on piezo based thermal electric generators.
>>
>>1041329
>>1041335
So it's not that it's impossible, it's that no one does it because it has an extremely low yield?

Still, the solution sounds like it's just to apply the effect to something that has an extremely large surface area.
e.g. a sponge that absorbs its own thermal radiation.
