Halp /trv/,

I'm doing a road trip across the US with my father in late April to visit his brother in Tennessee (I live in California). The original plan was to drive out there, spend a week, I would catch a flight home, and he would drive back. I booked a flight last December with American Airlines while the rates were still decent. Because of some recent health concerns, my father can't make the return trip back solo so I'll be helping him drive back now. I figured everything would be okay with just cancelling the flight, until the person I spoke with said that there was a $200 cancellation fee. Da fuq? I mean, I'm essentially being charged to no longer fly with them, which seems absolutely ridiculous. To me, it's like purchasing a movie theater ticket and then not going, so the theater charges you for not watching the movie. Anyway, am I just screwed on this? They say they will give me credit on the cost of a new ticket for the original purchase price, but I have no upcoming flights. I just want to be out $179 I paid for flight and be done with it, not $179 + $200 fee.

Pic related, it's what I feel like I'm doing.

My friend did the same thing. He had to pay AA $200 to salvage a net $50 credit on a future flight. The tickets you guys bought were non-refundable. You also didn't opt for trip insurance, which I'm not sure would've helped you here anyway.

I agree that it seemes ridiculous, but airline reservations are already crazy. I wish the entire experience can be less painful and annoying.

I thought the $200 cancellation fee is to get credit for what you already paid. I believe you can just walk now and just eat what you've already paid. That's how I understood it.
>>
Y'all are fucking idiots.

Let's take >>1226432 as an example.

The guy paid $250 for his original flight. The airline removes $200 for a "change fee", then gives them a code for $50 off a future flight within 1 year.

OP, how in the hell do you think they're going to charge you $200 extra dollars just because you didn't show up to the flight? No, you're not going to get money or future credit back. But no, you're not going to get charged extra either.
>>
>>1226432
Yes, somewhat same scenario but I don't want the credit, I just don't want the fee. I have travel insurance through the credit card I used which offers the same benefit as the add on and it's usually just for death or illness related claims.

>>1226449
Yea, that's what I thought too, until the rep I spoke to said otherwise. Cancellation is consider a change and incurs a $200 fee. I imagine that if I don't cancel and just don't show up a magic $200 charge will occur on the credit card I used for violating their terms and conditions. Which is crazy, because it's like a paying for a hotel room and then they charge you again because you didn't show up to use it. I'd love to just be out the original cost of the ticket but I doesn't seem that easy.

I'm thinking of sending AA an email, any ideas on how to approach it?

Hello /trv/, I am in the early stages of planning a trip to Moscow and the Golden Ring, as of now, my idea is to stay in Moscow for a week and to backpack through the towns of the Ring. I also plan on going to Korolev, in order to visit the Vostok 1 capsule, however, the only Tripadvisor review says it is open to Russians only so I'm still not sure if I should waste my time with something I probably won't see. I was also thinking of going to Dubna in order to see what wikipedia calls "the second largest statue of Lenin", can't find information on which one is actually the largest. Can you recommend me some interesting destinations, things to try, any tips in general, if possible, I would love to see some less touristy places. Any help will be appreciated.

Oh, I'd really love to visit Saint Petersburg as well, however, I don't think I will be able to fit it in my 30 day visa without having to rush through everything. I am even worried I won't be able to finish the Golden Ring. I have two more trips to Russia planned, one to Saint Petersburg, Novgorod, Arkhangelsk and the Solovetsky Islands and the other to the Far East and Siberia. Was thinking if I can get a Russian friend from uni to say that I am visiting him so I can get a private visa which allows me to stay for 90 days, however, it will probably require effort on his side and I don't want to be a burden. Also, it just dawned on me that the World Cup will be next year meaning that a lot of the prices will be heavily inflated, therefore, I might have to reschedule the trip for summer 2019 seeing that I don't really want to visit in the winter.

The museum in the Korolev is closed not only for the intrants, but also for the Russians, you need to fill out a lot of papers to get there. But this if you believe the Internet, maybe you will be allowed to go there without any problems. In Moscow by the way there is a good museum of astronautics. The second largest statue of Lenin really is in Dubna. If we talk about the golden ring, then I advise you Sergiev Posad, Suzdal, Murom and Costroma for a long time to talk about the merits of these cities, but i love they. A very beautiful monument to Ilya Muromets, a monaster in Sergiev Posad and the whole architecture of Kostroma. In other words, it was in the past the main cities where the new Russia was born.

Ehi anon,

I would like to travel to Sarajevo with my 3 friends by car from Italy.

One of my friend is transexual (FtM). He is a guy but his name on the passport is still a feminine one.

Are we going to have trouble at the border or in the country?

Thank you very much for any help. I really care about this trip.

I explored a partially abandoned underground complex in Tbilisi, Georgia, back in 2013, as well as an empty insane asylum in Massachusetts the following year.

The former was creepy because it legitimately felt like the sort of place where you could get murdered by homicidal hobos or marauding bands of zombies. There was a burnt-out police car in the basement, piles of blood-stained gloves, and a stuffed or frozen capybara surrounded by clotted fur and chewed-on bones. Needless to say, the whole place was pitch-dark. Near the bottom of the stairs, the ground was invisible due to all the shattered glass and spent syringes. Anybody who walked down there in sandals or barefoot probably would have caught AIDS or herpes within a millisecond.

Don't think I need to explain the insane asylum. I don't believe in ghosts but my cousin was having a rough time once we crawled in through a window and went up to a residential area. We had to wear masks because of the potential for asbestos. Honestly, all of the buildings we could access were very interesting - it was like stepping back in time to the 1970s or 1980s. There were still patient registers and medication charts on the wall. Underground there were series of tunnels which would grow progressively smaller the farther down you went.

We also found a giant room that was almost exclusively full of toilets and toilet seats.

It's no longer in use, but they give tours. I took one with just one other dude, that I didn't know as an old man showed us around and talked about its very bloody history. Pretty chilling.

Brazil is fucking amazing if you aren't too much of a pussy about the safety issues. And the women there are on a whole other level.

For me it's most of the cities in the U.S. - they're just mind-numbingly boring from a tourist perspective, the nightlife sucks compared to most other countries, the women are fat and entitled, the people are friendly but reserved.

Hey /trv/, I'm currently on my first solo trip in Europe. Im in serbia right now and I'm ultimately ending up in the UK on a work visa. I have no family in Europe and only some aquiantances. I feel like I've completely lost my sense of "home" as I think even going home would be depressing and I wouldnt feel comfortable, yet I have no where else to call home. I feel completely lost in the world and constantly lonely and uncomfortable.

I understand this may be the norm for people travelling alone for the first time, but I would love some advice on how to deal with this or any stories of your experiences.

hi,
I am going to spend 2 weeks in miami beach with my gf, any tips what to do there?

i have planed:

miami beach 1 week, key west 1 day tour, everglades, key biscaine, and maybe 1 week on fort myers beach..

i probably will buy a GO Miami Card, is this a good option?

me and my gf mostly love beaches, nature and wild animals.. and anything strange :D i have read many things about manatees, crocodiles and so on..

how are the prices for food in miami (its my first time in Usa), how much should i plan /day for healthy food, but good junk is also ok from time to time..

Honestly I could recommend a thousand places better than Miami in respect to what you are looking for.

Did you already book the flights?

If not I'll tell you better places to invest your time and money into.
>>
>>1226611

yeah, i saw cheap tickets to miami from vienna, so i made a spontanous decision.. and booked them..

i hope my first US Experience, will be a good one, is miami safe?
>>
>>1226644

Miami is not the safest US city, but you should be fine sticking to the touristy areas.

However, if I was going to Florida (and I have), and wanted beaches, I would immediately either (a) drive south and spend time in the Keys *other than Key West*, or (b) drive west and spend time on the Gulf Coast.

Key West is basically full of drunken tourists. The other Keys are nicer and whatever tourists are there are nicer too.

Is Karachi as fun as it seems? Any Pakistan stories?
18 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>1226538

My understanding is that Karachi is generally regarded as being relatively dangerous compared to other cities, such as Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Islamabad. I'm sure you'd be fine with some sensible precautions, though.

Got to imagine that getting "hot grills" would be substantially harder than in neighboring India (which isn't a cake-walk), but I suppose the suppressed-conservative factor could make it easier to find sluts. After all, white men don't judge!
>>
>>1226542
interesting, i though Karachi being dangerous was just because it was the biggest city and that you should be fine as long as you don't go to the poor areas and act autistic

its not even on the list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_murder_rate
>>
>>1226548

I genuinely don't know a lot about Pakistan even though I've been to India seven times.

I just remember people telling me that Karachi has some problems with crime and that there's an elevated risk of mugging and robbery. Islamabad, in contrast, is almost universally renowned as being a decent and safe kind of place.

Anyway, I'd love to go to Pakistan but am worried about how having a visa from them could impact the renewal of my India visa. If you want to go to Karachi, just go, but be careful and ask a lot of questions for your first few days.

How much money in U.S. dollars would it cost to travel to Japan and see the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

I'm not a weeb, I swear.
21 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
It will be a lot of money, probably at least $4,000 depending on how long you'd like to stay and unless you get a deal on airfare.

Tokyo is already one of the most expensive cities in the world, and you have to figure prices will be jacked up for this...Olympic events are already very expensive.

Why would you want to go there during the Olympics?
There will be millions more tourists than normal, prices will be higher, and Olympic sports are generally pointless anyways.
>>
>>1226206
I love travel, and Japan is on my list for sure. And I think the Olympics are fun and exciting :)

But thank you very much for the insight, Anon :)
>>
I hope you're either pretty wealthy or a very, very big fan of the Olympics, because otherwise this sounds like a fucking waste of money

Just the tickets themselves are going to be expensive af

Anyone else have FF status? I'm a DL platinum, probably going to end up with Gold based on 2017 travel projections. Gold is what I need, because I value lounge access
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1226167
I am aiming for reaching it this year. Probably will only make silver, though.
>>
>>1226171
In my opinion, Silver benefits are not that great. Gold is where I really started to see benefits:
sky priority
lounge access on international flights
4 free drink certificates
some (rare) free domestic upgrades to first class

If you can churn some MQMs out of a Delta branded AMEX card to get to Gold, it might be worth it (depending on what you value)
>>
>>1226173
I am on track for getting the MQD waiver from my Delta AMEX platinum, and I gor the 10,000 bonus miles for the card already. My goal in at least making it to Silver is not to let those bonus MQMs go to waste. I haven't looked to see what the gulf between gold and silver is.
