Anyone else wants to go to Tokyo

I want to go to Japan but everyone (including Japanese) tell me it's kinda meh.
>>
>>1228972

what they mean is japan is very conservative. and yes very racist too. but dont let that stop you its well worth visiting for all other reasons.
>>
Dunno.

I'm sure I'll go at some point, but East Asia has never held much of an interest for me. Japan and Korea and China are all on my eventual to-do list, but I can live without seeing Tokyo until I'm in my late twenties or thirties.

Going to Amsterdam this friday, does anybody know where to score mdma/coke and what would be the best places to party under the influence of those? Thanks

mdma is easy and cheap to get. Like 3$ a tab just ask around in every single club. Coke is kind of a problem. There's a lot of white heroine around posing as coke. People have died from this. As for clubs there are quite a lot in a concentrated area which you'll easily find. It depends from person to person which they like the most.

Hey /trv/. /fa/ guy who's gotten borderline autistic about gear that looks good without sacrificing function. I was hoping we could get a thread going about that as well as very specific things that I'm looking for:

- a round hat that covers your neck without making you look too much like a fucking dumbass (I need it for hiking: something like pic related)

- travel adaptors are super bulky imo. There's gotta be something thinner?

- hiking pants that don't look fucking stupid (must have cargo pockets and can't be super baggy)

- For shorts, I have lululemon pace breakers (which are great 'cause there's a zip pocket that's sort of hidden for my cash). I think their long sleeves also look great and are technical without being too obvious

- I'm looking for a soap container that actually makes sense. I swear they're always massive and take up more space than they need to + your soap gets all soggy because it's just swimming in soap water

- I'm looking for the lightest flip flops. I literally hate flip flops/hike in vibrams but wear them only to shower

- favourite brand for travel size bottles for liquids?

---------------
It can also be a general gear you can't live without thread

- I love my merino wool buff. It's great as headband, good as a scarf, good for motorcycling so you don't eat bugs/it covers your neck

- also use eagle creek compression bags. They're awesome 'cause you can just throw everythign in there, then squeeze the air out. I can be ready to leave in minutes now.

Hello /Trv, goin to Vienna in May for a week, was wondering what street foods I should definately try?

Also any tips in general, places to go, things to do? Thanks chiefs

Pic unrelated, although Liverpool is worth a visit.

Dunno about street foods, but the thing to do in Vienna is immerse in some of the very historic coffeehouses of cultural acclaim. Have fantastic schnitzel, yummy coffee and pastries, get the famous cakes like sacher torte, some fresh apfelstrudel, etc.

There's some more traditional foods if you find it, from leberknudelsuppe (my fave!), to hot dogs twisty wrapped in bacon, various sausages like burenwurst/currywurst/leberkase to liptauer spread for your bread (oh the breads are good!). There can be found a lot of neighboring foods like czech or hungarian menu items, if you want that. The dumplings are always a sure bet to be different than the last place you ordered them. Walk through the Naschtmarkt and sample some of the street food offerings there. Delicious drinking can be had with the infused fruit liqueurs, like the eau de vie, apricot or pear brandies from the Wachau Valley (take a cruise on the danube through the valley and visit Melk).
http://www.hpsepicurean.com/preiss-spirits/bailoni/
I also really enjoyed some of the Radler (low alcohol fruit beers), and soda flavors like "melissa" and "elderberry" so popping into a market is a good bet. If you get a chilly evening, maybe get some gluhwein (spiced wine).

If you feel really conflicted on what to do and what to eat, then you might pay for a Food Tour, and hit the highlights for a reasonable fee, a prix fixe, and have it all curated "good finds" for you. This is an expensive city afterall.
>>
Vienna is lovely, just wander around the city and immerse yourself in the culture, take it slowly, sit down, relax, have a coffee and some sachertorte, read a book while doing it and appreciate the beautiful architecture.

Hey guys,
I want to experience living in another country for a while, and just have some time to get up to shenanigans and grow as a person. Plus I've been in school my entire life, and always living with somebody, and I'd like to experience just not having commitments for a while when I finish up with uni. I was thinking maybe 3 months, since it's short enough for me to be able to fund it without working during that time, but long enough to actually do some stuff. Has anybody tried this before? How was it? Where did you go, and do you regret it?

>Pic semi related; how I feel in my current country sometimes, knowing that if I don't take a break after uni and before full time work, it'll just get harder

Figured I'd post my current plan, which I've done exactly 15 minutes of research on. Literally my first idea, so I'm definitely not married to it.
>Go to Thailand
>Relatively low cost of living
>Rent one bedroom apartment for 3 months
>Spend the time focusing on bodybuilding and learning Muay Thai (been lifting for a while, and been doing martial arts since I was little)
>Relatively low cost of living, so I'd hope I could cover all my stuff like rent, internet, food and utilities for about 1500AUD a month
>Go out and party with tourists and shit when I'm bored
>Go to other areas in Thailand and do generic tourist shit
>Get up to shenanigans and while away my days doing whatever I want
>Come back to home country (Australia) ready to resume my life
>>
bump for interest

>grow as a person

Myeah. I suppose. I'm not up to current with the value of your dollaridoos, though. Check rental prices, multiply that by ~2.5 if you just want to live there and do nothing.

Quick, post travelin' cuties before this thread gets deleted.

Has anyone from /trv/ moved to Europe to work and live?

What is the best way to do it?

I'm born in Europe in Bosnia but live in Canada and would love to move back to Europe but Bosnia just seems a poor choice economically. Also not in the EU so that doesn't help my case for working in other EU countries!

I have a Canadian university degree in finance and speak English, Serbian, French and Spanish fluently.

What do you guys recommended I do?

I don't like the north American lifestyle and just want to live and work in Europe. Preferably Barcelona.

Also this can be a general for any others with similar questions

Thanks!

What's everyone's least favorite nationality to come across while traveling?

For me it's the Chinese and Americans. The Chinese constantly rampage through little villages in massive tour groups, climb over everything, touch every piece of artwork, and spit everywhere.

And Americans I don't like running into because I'm American and also we complain a lot.

>>

Don't stagger around a new city drunk, don't talk to strangers on the street, be careful if you find yourself in a large crowd in a touristy area, and most importantly don't carry very important stuff where someone might snatch it. If you're paranoid get a money belt of the strappy, elastic kind you wear under your clothes and keep cards. etc. in that. Only have the cash you need for the day in your pocket.

Okay. So my girlfriend and I have finally gotten the balls to decide to move to another part of the country. We want out of Pennsylvania, for a lot of reasons. Mainly the climate. We've been kicking this idea around for years but to be honest we need some help in figuring out where we want to go and eventually buy a house and settle down.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some insight into certain areas of the country from a first-hand experience, as opposed to a touristy big-city perspective. We both grew up in small towns, and we're basically looking for that same life but just somewhere warmer. The only problem is that we have some very specific requirements.

The climate has to be warm. NOT sizzling insane 110 degree summer warm, but just much warmer than Pennsylvania.

I like to hunt and fish and camp and do all kinds of outdoor things. I am a huge gardener and this is also my career path. I would like to be within an hour drive to some true wilderness. No city park shit. Somewhere that I can be alone and feel lost.

We both want to be within a few (like 1 or 2) hours to a beach if that's possible, but we would settle for like 3 or maybe 4 hours max.

Now what really matters are the kind of people. Not scummy hicks or ghetto ass thugs or other city dwellers, just normal people.

Basically, we're looking for a warmer Pennsylvania. Can anybody please help us out?

PS, Hard Mode, Not California.

And just to clarify, we've been looking all over and doing some traveling for a while now. We're not just sitting here expecting someone to do the work for us.

What we're just asking for is a little insight. I've found random small towns in warm geographic ranges on google maps and thought hey this looks nice from google but for all I know it's full of the KKK. We thought that maybe some of you out there would read this and think, hey, what they're looking for sounds like where I grew up and be able to share that with us.

Any help is majorly appreciated.

Greyhound thread!

Post your funny or memorable greyhound experiences here. I'll start:

Bus driver left me at the Canada/US border because my questioning took too long.
He didn't even say a word, as I went out, he was already gone.
A driver from another company took me the rest of the way to Seattle for free.

Had to use this shit company 3 more times before I left the continent.

I have taken Greyhound four times now and almost everything has been fine.
The only negative so far was a 2 hour delay in getting from Boston to Montreal.

The only weird experience I've had so far was waiting for a ride out of New York for Boston at midnight.
>get water from a water fountain
>two guys behind me start to argue and nearly fight over who is next
>tons of homeless people sleeping around, asking me where I am going
>>
>That time I had a transfer in Atlanta
>The bus station is next to the infamous "Magic City"
>There is an extravagant pimp close to me in line with a pimp cup/goblet, and a shiny suit.
>>
Some old black guy sat down and started talking to me at the Buffalo stop when I was coming back to NYC from Canada. He said it was his birthday and just kept talking. Eventually he asked if he could "help me out" and I realized he was asking if he could suck my dick for money. Quickly killed that convo and told him to move on.

I had another suspicious dude sit next to me and I was weary of passing out since he seemed like that kind of try and ruffle through my pockets. Luckily he passed out and stopped talking crazy to me.

The worst was I was planning to catch a red eye from Ohio to NYC that would have taken ~12 hours. The bus comes in and is obviously full. One of the morons working for Greyhound took my bag and the bus was about to leave. I yelled at the dude and you could tell high school was just the place where he got free meals. Took me a few minutes for him to actually understand the bus was full and my bag being in the bottom of the bus would make no sense. End up waiting another 3 hours for the next bus and the entire trip took double the amount of time as it was supposed to. That was the last time I ever took Greyhound. Fuck the bus. It's where poor people who want to fly go

Go to Greenwich, go to the Prime Meridian and be cool by changing hemispheres several times in that day.
Then have a traditional meal of pies, mash and sauce and Goddard's at Greenwich.
It is a cheap and authentic place. It is hard to find a traditional British food restaurant that isn't a tourist trap.
That was a small gem

Alright, I live in Baton Rouge and know NOLA very well
New Orleans can be a dangerous city if you aren't smart, first some rules
>stay where the people are at night
>stay in a group if you do leave where the people are
>be prepared to see some weird shit around bourbon

Now for food
>Cafe du monde
obviously a must, the line looks longer than it is
>Drago's
a good oyster place, but the oysters are not good right now, you gotta get them in Months that end in -r, but still good if you haven't had them Acme is the same thing
>Domenica
Located in the roosevelt hotel, it is a great Italian styled restaurant, not to expensive either
>red fish grill
if you go get the krystal fried oyster poboy, a favorite of mine
>brennan's is a great brunch place, mostly everything is good

Pretty much most of the stuff you try will be great, Louisiana is the best food state in the world.

Entertainment
>D-day museum
>Bourbon
like a 3 mile party, ESPECIALLY for St. Paddies
>Blacksmith bar
Really cool atmosphere, located on bourbon
>French Quarter
Just walking around and fucking off is fun
>Drive into the surrounding areas
experience true Louisiana, rent a car and drive to Houma or Thibodaux, maybe BR if you feel like it

If you feel like seeing plantation style LA, try driving up to Oak Alley Plantation, if you are feeling like driving farther definitely go to Houmas house, and drive the levee there

If you feel like making a little drive, just visit the surrounding cities, Southern Louisiana is a great and unique culture

Good Luck

The US is the obvious choice, going to Portland, Seattle, Denver, etc. is the easiest and most enjoyable way to buy marijuana and then consume it somewhere fun.

I'm going to visit Berlin with my girlfriend in April for 4 or 5 days and I have this list of places we'd like to visit.
We'd really like to walk around and see famous/historical sights and landmarks. I guess neither of us are interested in parties or clubs or anything like that.

What are we missing? Also, which of the "maybes" are the best to add onto the "definitely" list?

Definitely
>Reichstag (sign up for a free tour in advance)
>Berlin Wall (East Side Gallery)
>Brandenburg Gate
>Gendarmenmarkt
>Checkpoint Charlie
>Potsdamer Platz

Maybe:
>Neues Museum
>DDR Museum
>Checkpoint Charlie Museum
>Boat tour on Spree River
>Day trip to Potsdam or Leipzig
>Some other museum on
