Hey /trv

I decided I would do my very own Moscow guide.

I'm just tired of all the crap I see in online guides and articles on Moscow and of all the dumbfuck stereotypes and misconceptions. I first noticed foreign guides on Russia and Moscow were extremely stupid and outdated some 15 years ago in a Berlin airport while browsing guides on Russia in a book stall. The situation hasn't changed much since then.

I'll post the first pages and you tell me if I should continue it here. If you like it I'll post a new page every 1-2 days and later collect it all into a pdf for free distribution (and possible publishing if someone is interested). You can also ask me questions which I'll try to cover in this guide.

It may be that such Americans as go there don;t feel the need to look for advice on /trv/?

I've been a few times, it's perfectly fine, I like SA better, but to each his own.
>>
>>1214518
Many places are arguably better, but you cant easily drive to them.
Bringing my own vehicle is making this the cheapest vacation I have ever had and its been as fun as any of them.
>>
>>1214522
Fair enough -- where I live in the USA, you can;t really easily drive to Mexico either. I mean, you can, but it is a long ass way, smarter to fly. And once I am flying, for my money Id rather hit Colombia or Ecuador. Not to say I would turn down another opportunity to go to Mexico...

>tfw flu while traveling

Has this happened to anybody else?

Was even suppose to leave yesterday to go to my next stop but this fever makes me not want to do anything so I extended my room by two nights. It's gotten expensive too which fucking blows but I think I would collapse at train station with all my luggage right now. It just sucks, here I am in a cool fucking place and I don't even want to leave bed. I have no appetite and can barely drink water.

Somebody has to have a greentext that makes me feel better after I toss and turn for three hours while having a nightmare.

Hope you're having good health /trv/lers

>In the USAF
>Stationed near a UK base which regularly flies to the Falklands, according to Wikitravel

Is it possible to hop there? I know it's possible to hop places on US flights. Once I'm there, how would I get from Mount Pleasant Airport to Stanley, if I could even do that in the first place? Tbh I'm just interested in British history and want to see the war memorials, but all the tours I see are over 10K because they take you all over the islands and to Antarctica to look at nature. Maybe there's a cheap tour that'll take me from Mount Pleasant airport to some old memorials. Would love to see the Islands before they're transferred to Argentina, which I feel is going to happen eventually.

>tldr can an American in the USAF stationed at an RAF base hop an RAF flight to the Falklands?

I don't want to turn this into a political discussion on 4chan's Greatest Board, but they fought a genuine war for them, less than 40 years ago. Ain't no-one gonna peacefully hand them over.

Anyway. It *might* be easier for you, as you're on actual allied Nato service. Civilians have a hard time getting on those flights, but you might be able to.
>>
>>1228762
Which is why I'd really like to check it out, it's nearly impossible for me to do this as a civilian. And yeah, I don't want to turn it into a political discussion, but I'm going to war memorials around here and talking to veterans, the Brits have a sad history of forgetting their wars or saying they weren't noble. I've met some Rhodesian vets who say they got kicked out of Remembrance Day, so now they do it in private.

The way I see it, most British people don't seem to care about them now, but Argentina never stops pushing the issue. It could be a while but it might happen.
>>
>>1228761
You know you can fly there from Punta Arenas for $700 round trip right? I researched a bit and everything there is private land so if you want to do camping you need to ask them. It's apparently not that expensive.

>>1228762
There's already terror attacks, civil war isn't far off. Non-British are growing each year, once the "UK" needs to dedicate more forces to upholding peace on their island is the moment the Argies are going to strike. Not today, not tomorrow, but in fourty years when Europe is in the shits they will attack.

Anyone have experience traveling alone with an anxiety disorder? Im a Muay Thai fighter traveling to Thailand for training and I couldn't be more excited. However, when I start to get anxious I get really......stupid. I feel as though everyone around me is speaking in muffled voices or jumbling up their words and my brain freezes up. Its difficult to explain but basically very simple tasks become incredibly daunting. My biggest fear is that Ill get lost or miss a flight. General travel anxiety discussion is welcome!
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I have anxiety too but nothing that would make me miss a flight or anything. I find that when my anxiety will cause me to seriously fuck up a travel plan, I'm able to power through it and talk to whoever I need to talk to in order to get where I'm going.

How specifically are you imagining that your anxiety would do something like that? Like you wouldn't be able to get to the airport, or?

I find that especially if you don't know the local language, it's pretty easy to start getting taken advantage of and a lot of my anxiety comes in then.
>>
>>1228696
I have anxiety issues and altbough its overwhelming at first travel actually helped me a bit. Putting yourself out there and seeing its not so bad is the best thing you can do. If you are worried about missing a flight give yourself like an extra 4 hours and then no matter how stupid you are you will always have time to ask a thousand people and get back on track.
>>
>>1228714
I suppose its a little of the anxiety itself causing me to belive I might miss my flight. But I worry Id get lost while trying to get to the airport in Thailand. But I suppose I could just reserve that day for making sure I get there on time.

We've been looking at Tarragona in Catalonia for our road trip (from Western Sweden) but during what period would be better for avoiding tourists, traffic etc? We will be driving a 30 year old car with no AC, so are there any enviromental regulations we need to be mindful of (such as umweltzone in Germany)?

Any suggestions, hotels or alternate routes welcome.

>>
late spring can already be quite hot in the Tarragona area. Further north in the pre-Pyrenees the temperature still holds for some weeks
>>
Catalonia it's well known for its numerous tolls in the highways; use the National roads (N-XX)
There is no environmental regulation on this topic, only in Barcelona after 2020 you won't be allowed to enter with cars older than 20 years

>>1228706
Thanks. Do you have any recommendations for places worth visiting in that region?

If you really want to save money, consider using a Willerexpress bus pass for moving large distances. In Kansai look into Kansai Thru Pass or Kintetsu Rail Pass, but only if you´re planning some longer trips (Himeji, Koyasan). Otherwise regular tickets will be cheaper, Kyoto>Osaka is like 400 yen one way.
Do get out into the wider Kansai, 7 days Kyoto will overload you with temples and there's jackshit to do in Osaka for 5 days.

I'd like to go travel around West Africa for a few months but don't feel like paying $100+ per night for a shit hotel/airbnb in a shit region of the world. It doesn't seem like there are many hostels in the part of the world.

What do?

(some experience traveling East Africa but all accommodation paid for by work)
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Dunno about West Africa in general, but Morocco is a fairly cheap country. You can get a good room for $15-40 a night. Most of the hotels are riads, beautiful traditional houses converted to hotels. They're usually family-run and nice and clean.
>>
>>1228541
Care to explain a little bit about your wast africa trip? How did you line up the work?
>>
West Africa is expensive cause its so savage, there isn't the tourism infrastructure like in east Africa. Depends what countries you had in mind as obviously some are more stable.
But from what I have heard from people who went there, you are usually in some compound in a rich gated area and you just don't really go anywhere other than where your work requires.
If you want to stay with locals, you need somebody as an "in" to get you in touch with others and it can snowball from there.

Depends what you do the cool stuff in Patagonia is expensive

Whale watching in Puerto Madryn = $120
Dolphin and penguin watching in Puerto Madryn = $120
Glacier walking in El Calafate = $100
Kayaking in Magellan Strait = $80
Bus to your next destination.= $50-$100
Visit to more obscure national park or glacier = $300
Navimag cruise through Patagonian fjords = $400

Basically all day trips in Punta Arenas cost you $50-60 or generally all day trips in Argentina that you cannot do on your own will run you $40-50

Take a tent so you can cut costs in Punta Arenas and El Chalten. Hostels in El Chalten are really fucking expensive and you want to save money here because camping in the national park is free and the hostels are expensive and don't even have internet in most cases

Restaurant food in Patagonia is at least double of what you pay in Argentina cities like Rosario or Mendoza.

I was there when they still had the black market and came back after and everything was a good 10-15% more expensive.

Paraguay is really interesting spend some time there.

The food in Chile is expensive and bland. Uruguay I found not to be that expensive as everyone says. Basically all countries you need to budget $50-60 a day to travel OK and I think your budget will last you some 8-10 months.
>>
>>1228412
Also I want to say that weather can make your trip a pain in the ass so you need to decide between good weather all of your trip (that means you need to be in Bariloche by middle/end of November) but more tourists or less tourists but worse weather (that means you need to be in Bariloche by middle/end of October). Also keep in mind the coolest thing that Patagonia has to offer, the Southern Right Whale is only visible until mid December so don't come too late or you will miss the most awe inspiring sight of your life. I traveled Patagonia from November to March and had great weather, only rained three times I think but the tourists in Torres del Paine where a bit overwhelming though. In other places I hadn't seen a lot.

I've always liked Kingston. it has some nice old architecture and some cool stuff in it.

but to give a better answer I guess I would have to ask what you're looking for in a city that you would define as "interesting"

Even with that big of inheritance I would advice against owning houses outside of your passport country.

If you are wealthy enough to keep houses in several locations you dont really need to plan on locations, do you? You just hop on a next plane and go whenever you please.

But to not be a smartass and actually answer your question: Portugal, Turkey, Thailand, Finland (in summer).
