Going to Berlin for 10 days to visit my brother who is living there for 4 months. Any recommendations for stuff to do? I'm 25, male, and unfortunately don't speak any German (this trip was sprung on me as a surprise by my parents, so I haven't had time to really learn anything). My brother (20) speaks a bit.

Things I'm mostly interested in:
Parks/nature, interesting looking buildings/architecture, city history, food, restaurants, music (not club/dance music. I mean german traditional music)

Somewhat interested in: Art, drinking/bars, general shopping

Not at all interested in: clubs, parties, dancing, raves, discos, hookups, etc

Since it's a bit of a family thing I will probably be with my parents the whole time. We're New York City natives so we are used to dense urban areas, but none of us besides my brother have been to Germany and I've never even been to Europe. Any general travel tips (restaurant tipping? Will people care how we dress? etc)

Looking at your interests, you picked the wrong city. Especially for 10 days.

I'm kind of dreading this to be true, desu. But my brother is staying in berlin, so that's where we're going.

I may travel around the region a bit as well.

Yeah there isn't even a war going on there at the moment. You will be fine anon, jump on the opportunity.

Since you probably mean Iraqi Kurdistan, just a friendly reminder that it is de jure part of Iraq, and that may or may not be a good thing for your CV.

Also as the other anon said, they are currently at war/ neighbouring a country at war/ a target of violence by nations at war. Not a great idea safety wise.

Hello /trv/ where else besides Thailand has a significant industry based around martial arts training and tourism?

As someone interesting in MMA, Id like to go abroad to boxing, dutch kickboxing, muay thai, BJJ, wrestling.

I know I dont need to leave the US to train, I just think it would be fun to do with my vacation time.

I also know where these styles originated and/or most popular. But I want to know if other places in the world have martial arts tourism that is as established as Thailand's Muay Thai camps.

You live there? If you mind revisiting this thread and answering some questions for me i'd really appreciate it.

An uber driver told e if i was seeking BJJ i would want to go to Parana, he said that's where all the gyms are. I've only heard of places like Rio and Sao Paulo, if Parana is where I want to go what can you tell me about it?

Is it safe? welcoming to foreigners? how expensive is it? how much Portuguese do you need to know to get by? how do people in the area feel about black Americans? Do the women like foreigners? Will the guys at the gym go extra hard on me because i'm American?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/hawaii-bound-flight-diverted-over-blanket-dispute-005436768.html

Los Angeles (AFP) - A flight from Las Vegas to Honolulu was diverted to Los Angeles on Wednesday after a passenger refused to pay $12 for a blanket and was accused of being unruly, police said.

The incident unfolded after the Hawaiian Airlines flight took off from Las Vegas and the passenger -- a 66-year-old man -- requested a blanket as he was cold, Officer Rob Pedregon, a spokesman for the Los Angeles airport police, told AFP.

When told he would have to fork out $12 for the blanket, the unidentified man got upset and demanded to speak to a corporate representative from the airline, Pedregon said.

"During the in-flight call he allegedly said 'I would like to take someone behind the woodshed for this' and the pilot deemed that to be threatening behavior and ordered that the plane be diverted to Los Angeles," he said.

Police and FBI agents met with the passenger and crew when the plane landed in Los Angeles and determined after questioning both sides that no crime had been committed, Pedregon said.

The man voluntarily abandoned his flight and caught another one, he said.

Pedregon said the incident may not be the oddest he has handled "but it ranks right up there."

If you are going on a long flight, especially something like HI to CA you should at least plan ahead for this doesn't really matter if you are old or not.

Don't ever assume an airline will give you free shit and you'll never be disappointed.

me and my two friends will be coming to united states via work and travel, we have two options
1) Virginia, williamsburg as house keeper for 10 dollars per hour
2)Dallas, garland as lifeguard for 7,25 dollars per hour
which one do you reccomend us to choose

if you like history, then you will like Williamsburg. It has one of the biggest open air museums in the country, and there are actors dressed up as historic people, you can go and talk to them as if you were visiting a town in the 1700's.

I'm travelling to central Europe solo this summer using mainly hostels. I am only 18 and look very young, will I have a hard time finding people to drink with and do stuff in the day? I went away around central Europe at 19 (last Spring). Personally what I found is that judging where to go on pretty much solely on the atmosphere review score is the way to go. I'm slightly awkward (though amiable) and with one or two exceptions made a few pretty good friends in hostels, even went on a road trip with two thirty year old Aussies for a week. Even got somebody I met out there visiting soon. Occasionally you'll end up in a hostel which by chance isn't too sociable/has people who you don't get on with hugely and may be lonely for a few days, but in most places I'm sure you won't have trouble most of the time as long as you're polite and friendly. I'd personally recommend Greg and Toms in Krakow (not the party hostel) and the Ginger Monkey in the Slovak Tatras (my favourite place in the world, this picture is with their dog). Good luck man.

>travel for several months
>turns out I'm not a likable person abroad either, spend most of my time alone despite my best socializing efforts

Trip was okay I guess, got to see a lot of nice places, but I kinda missed the social experience of it all.

Don't worry I'm the same. I stayed at a hostel when I was in SEA last year and didn't meet anyone. Talked to a couple of people but they didn't seem interested in inviting me along on their adventures. Left earlier than intended and checked in to a 5 star hotel.

I mean it's fine, I prefer being by myself but on those trips it could be days without me uttering a single word.

Lol let this be an end to the "solo travel is best travel" meme. You will only experience crippling loneliness while other couples and groups of friends make memories together.

I'm planning a motorcycle trip from the UK out to Georgia.
Looking for tips on where and what to visit and see. Any interesting historical sights, points of interest, places i should stop off. Particularly any hidden gems, or nature areas which potentially might have good offroad routes for an adventure bike.
I'm going to blast through western Europe pretty swiftly, and I'm mostly interested in the Balkans and everything east of that.

Plitvice is very nice in Croatia, generally take a detour around the adriatic coast, Croatia, Montenegro and Albania are all beautiful. Also more interesting than going through northern croatia/hungary/serbia

anyone know where that abandoned UFO looking massive building is in the balkans? i seen it in a video but no idea which country it's in.
I'm particularly interested in Albania if anyone has any pointers.

Hey guy's I'm really sick and fucked in the head because there's so much mold growing in my parents house and got no where to go so I thought I'd just hop in my car and travel cross country around the US and sleep in my car for a while till I get better. What you guys think good idea? I know it wouldn't be the most comfortable but at least I'd get out of the house for once and see the world a bit right?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
You just need to account for variables extant while traveling, especially cross country. Little things like having a sleeping bag (if it's cold) or packing a spare tire can mean the difference between being even more fucked then when you started and actually experiencing some new and cool shit. And of course how much money you have. If you worked for a little while to save some money obviously that is a good idea.
But at the end of the day traveling is not going to fix your problems either. You will come home to the same shit, so you need to consider that too.
>>

Take the money you would spend on gas and buy a dehumidifier and new drywall
>>
>>1227137
I read somewhere that mold releases mycotoxins that stay there even if the mold is removed. No way to tell if that's true though. I'd also have buy a new floor as well and basically remodel a bunch of shit.

is NY to LA via 'route 66' the best american driving holiday for a foreigner?
any other suggestions?
i noticed there is a more northern route, which one is best?, was hoping to spend 3 - 4 weeks total in the U.S, including 3 - 4 days each in NY and LA (will reserve my last few days for getting zooted on legal weed and visiting the theme parks).
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
no. plan your route around your destinations, not your destinations around your route.
>>
Route 66 starts in Chicago, not NY.

I've done the drive before, it gives a really interesting view of America that the interstates and major cities don't give. The road takes you through a lot of tiny rubdown towns that most Americans never see. There's a lot of long empty stretches and abandoned towns, the trip will be filled with a lot of quiet little moments where you can really take in the country.

3-4 weeks seems like enough time do really get a feel of the locales around the road, but you could easily spend several months exploring the rest of the country.

When are you planning on doing the trip? Depending on the time of year weather might be a factor for your drive.

I'm thinking of applying to go woofing or whatever it is called in France this summer. I wanna do something like pick fruit or work at a holiday camp, something where I can work with other people my age, make friends (get laid if really lucky), and improve my French. However I am kind of stuck there is too many websites and too many options.

Have I left it too late for this year ?. Preferably I would like something between early June and September.
