FM synth, digital samples or, PSG?

I don't know. But it sounds like a game boy to me. Whatever type of technology game boy used. That's it.

Wavetable

What exactly is a wavetable in terms of videogame audio?
Which does wavetable match most closely in technology and operation:
FM synth, digital samples, or programmable sound generators?

What does /vr/ do when the site isn't talking about games?
Ranger-X is cool. Have you played it?
>>3587892
>when not talking about games
Eat, sleep, drink, work, and play games
>ranger X
Played it for the first time a couple months back. I like it. More style over substance but it's overall great. I r8 8/10.
>>3587892
I was surprised by it in a good way, but sub weapon balance felt a bit off.
>>3587903
>More style over substance but it's overall great.
It has plenty of substance too. Note that your robot is powered by light, and on some levels that means you need to find alternate ways of recharging your power.
Like on Stage 2 you need to blast holes in the ceiling to let the light in, on Stage 3 you have to fly out of the forest for a quick recharge, on Stage 4 you can only recharge near the windows where the light is turned on, or on Stage 5 you can only recharge on the reflector lights... which will set off the intruder alert and you'll be attacked in large numbers (so you have to dodge the light beams for most of the level).
And I bet you haven't even found the mega laser or the shield special weapons.
What you emulating? Tell me about it.
Also, I just set up a emulation channel on IRC. You are welcome to join to talk about emulators or retro games in general or just hang out or help with the newborn channel.
#emulation on Rizon
>>3587852
There's already an emulation channel, #/emugen/ on Rizon
>>3587852
I'm thinking of playing Langrisser IV or Panzer Dragoon Saga on SSF. The only Saturn game I've emulated was Shining Force III and I occasionally had the game freeze and lost my progress (even if I had saved earlier in the session, it was lost when I restarted the emulator). Is this a common problem? What can I do to avoid this issue?
Never played any Dragon Quest game, so I'm powering through them in order. Currently emulating SNES DQIII and holy fuck do I love it. I might replay it for GBC in the near future because I'm a sucker for a good Gameboy RPG.
I've been on an RPG Kick lately. I replayed FFI-VI in order and enjoyed seeing the progress the series made over time, and I'm starting to get that with DQ now.
I'm really starting to want flash carts for all my original hardware now.
Thoughts on Game Boys?
>>3587778
a GameBoy/Color/Advance clone with SCPH-1080 buttons would be golden as fuck.
>>3587778
THATS NOT HOW THE FACE BUTTONS ARE LAYED OUT ON NINTENDO CONSOLES FUCKING FAGGOT.
>>3587778
Holy shit OP, what model is this? It made me feel like holding it the moment I clicked the pic.
Was 50$ for this a good deal?
The currency ($) goes before the value, millennial.
>>3587769
What, back when it was released or now, in a retro shop?
>>3587802
Off some guy
Fuck you this game is great
Better than 1&3
well I managed to finish itwhich is something I can't say for I, III, V and VI
>le hit yourself the game
Who is your favorite fighter?
Which game is the best?
Why are the fighter portraits so retarded looking in Street Fighter Alpha 3?
This is not a Saturn v. Playstation thread. The arcade versions are the best. Take that shit to every other thread on /vr right now.
>>3587719
A friend gifted me alpha 3 a few daya ago and I only got a chancr to play it yesterday. Man I am terrible and no idra of how to figure out what combos into each other. Seems like a lot of fun.
Alpha 2 a best
Akuma all the way
>>3587719
This series was beautiful. I prefer those simplier and yet charming sprites to the more detailed ones from III.
Dan is my jam and, while 2 is superior, 3 will forever be my favourite. Alpha 3 MAX and SFA Anthology are the shit.
Hey /vr/ I'm planning on traveling a lot and I want to bring some vidya with me, what are the most comfy emulation/vidya options for me? I only want to bring one device with me, as I don't have a lot of packing space. Should I emulate on an android phone and get a game pad like the moga, or should I get a hacked psp? How does android emulation compare to psp, is one better than the other? How about newer handhelds like 3ds and vita, has anything topped the options that psp has?
I'm currently rocking a ds lite with a super card ds two but I'm looking for something with more power.
If you have the options, a 3ds can become one of the best portible emulator boxes out there. Through modding, you can inject your own roms into nintendo's VC for NES/GB/GBC/GBA/Game Gear as well as SNES if you have the "new" version. And if you don't like injections, homebrew apps exist like retroarch. Heck, with retroarch on a n3ds, they starting getting ps1 emulation to work.
You're saying you aren't going to bring an Android phone and/or a laptop with you anyway?
>>3587710
Also, you can get your ds flashcart to work on the 3ds as well.
Is spiderman the best 5th gen superhero game?
>>3587661
That was a fun game. Too bad about the sequel.
>>3587661
Had this game, was awesome. Liked everything about, and the extra costumes were icing on the cake.
I'm already at full health
Question: are there any western RPGs with a similar plot and cast to Xenogears or Suikoden 2?
Please attempt to communicate.
No, there are no WRPGs that are JRPGs.
>>3587586
That was not what was asked.
Read a good book instead anon.
Is there a better series of hunting game than these games? They have:
>fucking dinos
>spooky temples
>alien landscapes
>standalone mods
Retro Hunting Games thread.
>>3587510
never played the first but the second one was fun
I find it hard to believe OP didn't discover this genre through modern games but still, check this out
>>3587510
I remember the reviews being consistently scathing.
They looked decent, but the Carnivores series had to have fucked up for not being well received at any point.
I'd be curious to hear more on it though.
What does /vr/ think of this game?
I've emulated a few times and got a little far in Sion (the knight) and the girl's scenario (forgot her name.)
I was impressed with what I'm assuming the size of the game being. There are 3 characters that you can select from whenever you turn the game on, each character goes through a total of 15 days or chapters before their quest is over. At the end when all 3 have come together an NPC you see throughout the game becomes the new leader of the last and final quest. So its fair to say its a large game, correct?
Characters do not learn character specific tech like Chrono trigger, no one has abilities like steal or blitz from FF6, instead you spell out or 'Enscribe' words in the game to create spells. This gives you the ability to use high level and destructive spells early in the game, the only thing stopping you is your amount of MP. These are called Mantras or; Words of Power. The possibilities are endless.
This is without a doubt the most complex and unique system of magic in a video game I've ever seen (I could only imagine this being the translator's never ending nightmare.)
There is an english translation (Unoffficial, yet still high quality.)
I've always felt that this game plops right down beside the other less played Square rpgs such as RoSa series, Live-a-Live, and Bahamut Lagoon.
The game has beautiful sprite and background work, and the music isn't something to be slept on either. I've always wanted to rip all of the magic FX but theres literally hundreds of spells. Alot of which are the same spell (graphically, but renamed and different damage. I've ripped the Lightning magic FX and that took days.
O yea; almost forgot, this game is hard as shit. Not 7th Saga Hard, but its quite a challenge.
I don't remember it being hard after I learned the spell that absorbs MP, the one that inflicts madness and the one that raises your strength
fantastic game though, probably kawazu's most accessible game as well
pity he didn't focus on it as he did on SaGa
>>3587378
OP here
What can you can tell me about the SaGa series? They appear to be hidden gems, I've only played Romancing Saga 3 for a few hours and thought it was really cool and fun. I really enjoyed the combat as it felt completely unlike FF or other square products. The character specific techs were really cool and I think the RS3 soundtrack is pretty darn good. Dat battle theme <3
Is it worth it to go back and play RoSa? My brother bought the PS2 remake for RoSa1 and he told me it was shit basically.
>>3587363
Not really fond of the gimmicky spell system, which seem to be its USP. It's still a fine game because of other strong points: good graphics with neat in-battle animations, I liked the separate scenarios and elemental system for equipment. And last but not least: top-tier music.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Earthbound repros now sell for $60 and up. So, how has China not yet allocated all its production resources to flood the market with these yet?
>>3587323
Dude, what? There is one for $9 on aliexpress.
>>3587323
Just because people list them for that much doesn't necessarily mean they sell.
>>3586926
Repros are scum
At least they come clean about saying it's a repro.
>>3586926
>60 $
even my local retro game store in Cuckada that has ridiculous prices sells this for 45 $ Canadian , and that's like 20 real money dollars
