What's the objectively superior NES game?
Are there any NES games worth emulating?
Little samson
Fucking great game and it has it all.
Great gameplay, music and visuals.
The NES achieved beyond- PlayStation levels of market domination. Every successful game on it is objectively superiorexcept to Phantasy Star
OK, how about the worst NES you can think of?
Let's have a Donkey Kong Country 3 appreciation thread. Kiddy aside, this is a very fun and unique game that doesn't deserve the dismissal it gets.
I got it at a time I already had a N64 and a PS1, so SNES or Genesis didn't get my main attention anymore, but I played DCK3 quite a bit. I remember lenting it to my neighbors who had a SNES, and they finished the game before I did. I took my time but eventually did it. Never 103%'d it.
I still liked DKC2 the best, but DKC3 is up to the series' standards.
I didn't find Kiddie all that offensive.

He's just useless outside of the few time that you need to water skip of use his fat ass to bust through a floor. Dixie is faster and has the helicopter spin. She is hands-down the better character.
Has anyone here ever played Rocket: Robot on Wheels here?

Chill and underrated game
When I found out Sucker Punch worked on this I tried it out for a bit. It's your average 3D platformer, but from what I remember the physics were fun.
What is the best way to play Rondo of Blood on my PC? I don't know which version I should play, with all these ports / remakes.
>>3575491
play the port on snes, the music and graphics are much better in it
>>3575535
Nice meme.
Honestly, this was a pretty decent cartoon
Its surprising how faithful they were to the game
cool
now take this friendless manchild shit to /co/
>>3575463
How is it friendless when you're my friend?
Agree, the Super Mario World cartoon was a real drop in authenticity compared to the SMB3 series.
80$ Whort it ?
Why not get a real NES for that amount of money?
Just buy a Wii and softmod it. You'll be able to get a hell of a lot more games. Unless, you know, You actually want to support Nintendo, which is nice...
Personally I think the product itself is kind of shitty though. I'd never want to play old ass NES games through HDMI.
>>3575206
It's never the original hardware that's cost prohibitive, it's the games.
How the fuck is NES emulation still not perfect yet? Why am I still getting framedrops and stutter on a modern machine?
>>3571886
Are you aware Megaman games had slowdown/flicker on actual hardware? NES emulation is near-perfect, meaning it captures the slowdown too. Your machine has nothing to do with it.
>>3571896
No. This isn't slowdown, it's very clearly dropped frames and stutter. I am fully aware of what Mega Man 2 plays like on actual hardware, even going to the bubbleman stage knowing what slowdown actually feels like on the console.
This is just random dips and drops. Even the audio crackles.

Is there some kind of list about which game did what first? If not can we attempt to make one by trying to find out what games were the first to have features we can think of?
As an example of what I mean I have seen the question of what was the first game to feature wall jumping occasionally pop up here on /vr/ which has usually been answered with either Batman or Ninja Gaiden for the NES. If these are the candidates the title obviously goes to Ninja Gaiden as it came out before Batman. I have also seen Ocarina of Time often being credited as the first game to have "Z-targeting" but I'm pretty sure you could argue that Mega Man Legends had similar feature and come out before OoT. However were either of those games the first to have these features or were there other lesser known games to have similar features before them?
If there isn't one we could try to make one.
First game to do double jumping was Dragon Buster.
Which was the first JRPG to have a plot centered around corrupt church/religion? Pic related is the oldest one I can think of.
Is she Ryu's little sister?
She's a slut, is what she is.
>>3567941
She doesn't look so little to me.Poast moar.
Yes. The game even says so.

>tfw the character selection images were made by rob liefeld
I actually couldn't find any credits but there is no fucking way he wasn't involved. His print is all over it.
why would you add dog shit art in your game on purpose
God damn, I hated that so much

Yes at first glance this looks innocent, but never underestimate the power of a young male's imagination.
I just bought a dreamcast. Never owned one back in the day, I mostly got it because there's no piracy protection so I don't have to sink a bunch of money into games for a new system
So what are the best games for the system? Hidden gems?
Also, it isn't reading discs. I've heard you can up the intensity of the laser by turning a screw which should fix the problem. Anybody ever do this before? How easy is it to overdo it and ruin your laser?
>>3566252
You bought a broken DC. If it's not reading commercial discs you're pretty much boned. You can increase the laser strength, but it's a band-aid and will completely die soon. You could replace the drive, get a GDEMU for hundreds of dollars after being on a waitlist for several years, or scrape buy with an SD Card reader and deal with its shortcomings.
It's /vr/ alright, don't let any shitposter tell you otherwise. As for the laser, I remember taking some pliers and turning the screw, but it didn't make a difference because the disc I was trying to read turned out to be defective lol. So I just turned the screw back in the default position and haven't had any problems since.
>>3566257
Good to know. The place I bought it from has a return policy so I'll probably just take it back instead of fucking with fixing it.
How often do they fail? Are they early ps2 model shitty, or do they generally hold up?
I am going to poll /vr/ in regards to what their favorite games are for each major retro game console. The way it works is you put a Top 10 list of your favorite games for a particular game console (in this case its for the PlayStation). The game listed as number 1 gets ten points all the way down to number 10 which gets only a single point.
I am curious how /vr/'s taste is for the leader of the fifth generation.
1 Castlevania SOTN
2 Ghost in the Shell
3 Gradius Gaiden
4 Einhander
5 Metal Gear Solid
6 Ace Combat 3
7 Jumping Flash 2
8 Bushido Blade
9 Silouhette Mirage
10 Rival Schools
>the leader of the fifth generation.
You mean the Game Boy / Color?

Now that's a good OP pic, this setup is pretty rad.
Last thread's OP pic was barely relevent to the topic of the thread (1995 magazine cover with email and shit).
>>3565885
Glad you like it. It's not my setup although I have been putting together a boxed collection of Wing Commander games over the past month or so. I've got the whole main series now but I'm still waiting on my copy of Wing Commander 2 to arrive.
>>3565905
do you know the names of the joysticks shown in the picture?
I need other games like this one.
>>3564758
Not quite /vr/ enough for the fucking nazis who patrol this board--
--but Homeworld Cataclysm was pretty solid. I actually liked it more than Homeworld 2. Shame the source code was lost, otherwise it would have been in that Gearbox re-release of the Homeworld games.
>>3564870
Cataclysm had superior missions than Homeworld (longer, more objectives, enemy keeps building ships) and probably better multiplayer (no support frigates) but somehow I still like the original better.
I don't like how in Cataclysm veteran ships moved faster and and damaged ships moved slower. This screwed up fighter formations and got them all killed.
