I read that you can choose to "romance" either Aiela or Tristia. But the thing is, it seems that when you talk to Tristia, you can't leave the conversation until you reject her twice. If you try to leave the conversation, she'll ask if you love her, and if you say yes, she gets excited and says pic related and then the conversation loops. Anything you type other than "name" will just result in her repeating the question. Whereas if you answer no then she gets really pissed and then passes out.
What the fuck? Am I being rused? Because multiple guides seem to indicate that going with Tristia is an option and results in a different ending.
Also, Ultima general, since there's pretty much never one.
Well, I would've figured someone on this board plays Ultima.

I played it but I can't comment on the problem.
So what's everyone's favorite Ultima?
What's that game that you can come back to and keep playing over and over?
Pic related.

Probably Super Mario Land 2.

BAH GAWD, IT'S A WRASSLIN' THREAD!
I never liked sports or sports games, but anything pro-wrestling related I really enjoy. Mostly because wrasslin' is filled with drama, over the top action, and of course "TV violence".
It's great to make your own wrestler and then play the season mode and then get involved in all kinds of ridiculous drama. It's just like watching wrestling on TV.
It's kinda sad though how the WWF/E games have been dominating the wrestling games for years now. They do a good job with them, but I wish there were some proper WCW and ECW games for some fresh angles on the genre. I want to play a game like SD2 but set in WCW with plot and everything.
Gladly the new WWE games let you play with WCW and ECW stuff.
Here's a bonus George Costanza someone made.

Is this the ugliest video game generation?
Looking back on it, early 3D gaming was kind of a mistake. There were some good looking releases, certainly, but there were so many others that had muddy, vomit-inducing textures, an FoV that stretched to five inches in front of you, and frame drops that regularly turned things into a slideshow.
Aesthetically, I can appreciate stuff ranging into the 70s, but there's a 5-6 year period in the 90s that just does not hold up.
Honestly that's an opinion that belongs on /v/ more than it does /vr/
If you can't find something to appreciate about it that's more on you being superficial than a statement on fifth gen gaming in general
Sorry m8, maybe you could start a successful YouTube account for children or something
Nope, you're just retarded. Sorry pal.
>>3586509
I do appreciate things about the generation, there are some fantastic looking 2D games, and many that also tastefully add 3D when appropriate, and there are even some pure 3D ones that I think look good- Super Mario 64 is still a solidly good looking game in my eyes.
But as a whole, if you strip out the initial "wow" factor of seeing things in true 3D, I remember this generation as a muddy, foggy, stuttering mess.
What are some musicians that used video game music in their works? Either sampling, playing covers, whatever.
Mr- Bungle was pretty based

Love the SMB2/Doki Doki part
That was pretty garbage. I remember they incorporated a bit of smb into one of their songs in their s/t. Also Frank ocean's has a bit of Street fighter playing before the start of one of his albums. Also Drake a sampled a song in Dkc 2.
>>3586332
Yeah they use the underwater music and the flag pole fanfare on the s/t

Who has played this?
Someone told me it's like Morrowind in the Diablo style isometric world.
I recently enjoyed Divinity : Original Sin and really enjoy classic RPGs like Baldur's Gate.
It's not isometric but some other weird perspective.
As for the game itself, it's flawed but has a lot of charm. I love it. And the soundtrack is awesome.
I just finished a run-through like three days ago. A couple of quick points of spoiler free advice that I noted during my playthrough:
Classes determine your starting dots and how your character looks, but builds are whatever you want them to be. You can freely learn skills from any of the Warrior, Thief or Mage trees without restriction.
Don't take True Shot from the Path of the Ranger in the Warrior tree. It doesn't do what it's supposed to do and they become wasted skills.
Wisdom is a trap skill too. While it technically works, the amount of points needed to max it and the fact that you'll only acquire 10% by level 30 means you're not going to get more than a level or two of extra XP, which ultimately isn't worth the five skills.
All characters can benefit from maxing out Lockpicking. In fact, some of the best Warrior and Mage armor and weapons in the game are hidden behind level 5 locks without keys.
The Freeze spell makes almost every fight easier and is a good pick even for non-Mage builds. This is especially true early on when you organically run into some pretty tough Orcs just outside the Healer village, like the Drummers and Heavy Orcs.
Even a single dot of Repair is worth it. Without it, your weapon or armor could break mid-dungeon and you have to trek back to a blacksmith to fix it. A point of Repair will bring anything back to 60% fixed, and later when your gear is worth tens of thousands of gold and costs as much to repair, it'll save you HUGELY in the long run.
Magic Barrier combined with Charm Weapon can make you immune to magic by the end of the game. Both are well worth your time maxing out early and enjoying the dividends later.

OP here. Damn dude, thank you. I just installed it and was about to begin a playthrough.
Why does the 2600 get so much hate lately? It's an iconic game system yet gets so much crap nowadays, especially on /vr/. I don't think the "The people who hate it were too young for it" excuse works because I'm 20 and have liked it for nearly ten years now. I know it isn't arcade accurate but it's fun and cheap for what it is.
Also, general 2600 thread if you want.
Anyone else is going to pick this up?
just /v/ shitposting
Havent' seen much hate for it. Never owned one personally but I think the controller looks super comfy and the arcade ports on it look sweet. What would you say is a decent price for a console +controller +cables?
>WHAT!!?? Your CRT didnt originally come from a television studio????? GTFO faggot!

They're all pretty damn autistic.
I don't really care where your tv came from, but in this day and age there's no excuse to use a low quality tv and/or composite or RF input.

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.

Someone said its bad to run a crt with no sync, will it hurt my BVM 1910 when I turn off the SNES to put in a new cart? I was trying out different roms yesterday on my SD2SNES and each time I turned on the SNES, it took longer for my BVM to sync (everything goes haywire when its first turned on then it seems to tune it in after a couple of seconds). But concerned about how it took longer each time I tried out a new game. Is this not good for the old 1988 BVM?
>>3576065
Almost all CRTs will generate own timing (free running mode) as long they don't get any sync to lock into.
The only CRT that I'm aware of that doesn't do that is one of the monochrome monitors for the IBM 5150, it could literally catch fire (or smell like burnt wires) if it's runs for some time without computer connected (or turned on).
Friendly reminder not to fall for the SCART, RGB, or PVM memes.

I've been playing New Retro Arcade: Neon, and I can't decide what to put on the arcade machines.
What games would VR emulate on them?
If you are going for a full set-up on each and every machine (proper attract audio and video, correct side and front art with proper button and stick placement) I find it is easiest to go to the discussions on Steam for the game, go into the Artist's Alley and finding games that already have art pre-made by somebody. There are also programs you can find in the discussion board that will help you with attract screens and button placement. As far as games, some highlights from my lineup at the moment are:
Wizard of Wor
Berzerk
Metal Slug X
R-Type
Puzzle-Bobble
Aero Fighters 2
Raiden DX
Joust
Nibbler

What the fuck was a Kuwanger /vr/
It is concerning how small of a vocabulary kids have this days.
> Boomer Kuwanger (ブーメル・クワンガー) is a Maverick in Mega Man X based on the stag beetle ("kuwagata" in Japanese).
>>3591036
The majority of the (Japanese) Maverick names in the MMX games are corrupted forms of animal names. In this case, Kuwanger is based on Kuwagata, which is a stag beetle. Many of the names were changed to be more simplistic in the US version, such as altering Icy Penguigo to Chill Penguin, but Boomer Kuwanger was one of the few that wasn't changed.
>>3591045
>altering Icy Penguigo to Chill Penguin
That explains why that penguin isn't chill at all
