So, /vr/, I found my brother's old Sega Master System II on a shelf at my dad's house.
It has three games and one controller.
It has no RF out cable, and no AC adaptor.
How can I get her going again, anons?

Pic related, the ports for the cables I don't have

Should be able to find them pretty easy, and pretty cheap too. Just check on google.
Also, find a copy of Wonder Boy in Monster Land as soon as you can. That is the greatest SMS game, ever.
Starting off with the best game in the genre.

What do you mean by Scrollers?

He's just forcing a new term for a genre of games that already have an established term.

Wow, two reoccurring shitposters in the same thread.
Let's have a FFV thread.
>favorite jobs
>worst jobs (because everyone already know the best)
>favorite bosses
>favorite monster designs (Nomura did a fine work on this one).
I was just playing the GBA version of this. The whole job system seems boring at first but it gets really fun once you start to get the hang of it and combining abilities.
It's much more immersive, battlewise, than FF6 because you require more grinding but it's not boring because you switch up your jobs all the time.
So far I'm liking the Geomancer, but I just got it.
I play the GBA version because I think the soundfont in the GBA version sounds better

SNES > GBA
I recently bought a Genesis and it seems like there are way too many controller designs.
Which ones are the best to get?
There's two different controllers for the Genesis.
That one.
That's a good one unless you need the six button for whatever game you're playing and then get the six button

Does ANYONE know where I can find a copy of Call to Power at? I've played Civ2 on the PSX a long time ago, and when I finally got a PC, I went straight to Civ3 instead of getting Civ2 and the expansions. I've only found a few links to CtP and all of them have only been the base Civ2 and not CtP.
I've got a Win98 VM ready to play it on, so patches to have it work with XP and later aren't an issue.
>>3665423
All I know of is that you can get Call to Power 2 on GOG and a source project for it.

Hows this game and Lufia 2? Is it worth getting the physical carts?
Skip Fortress of Doom and just play Rise of the Sinistrals.
>>3665083
The first one will drive you mad with random encounters every third second.
Lufia 2 is very very good, but repetitive.
Go to town, go to dungeon and kill boss, suddenly the bridge or whatever is repaired and you can move to the next area where there is a town, a dungeon and a new broken something.
>>3665110
Can you explain why?
I think it's been a while since we had one of these. Here's a blank template to get started.
Here's a gem from one of those older threads.
JVC TM-A101G Broadcast monitor. Can do composite only. Worth it for $20?
She said it was brand new in their storeroom, they never used it, and no one wanted it for their kids. (probably because of the bnc connectors.)
>>3664902
>>3664902
I'd say so. Even if you decide not to keep it, you could easily flip it for double that.
>>3664905
also worth noting it does 16x9 easily, and can work with either PAL or NTSC. It's a 10' monitor, but that's good for og xbox lan matches.

This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.
Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

Anyone know exactly what a crt rejuvinator does?
My crt has not so bright whites and I want to fix that.
I own a 20 inch non multiformat bvm that has around 34k hours on it. I have the option to get a 20L5 from 2002, what should I look out for when inspecting the pvm. My bvm has near perfect geometry so I'm expecting a trade off with this pvm. How can one tell when a tube has dulled out.

Hello /vr/, could use some help. Without going into too much pointless details recently with the holidays I have a bit of extra spending cash and have become interested in the sega santurn. I never grew up with one and decided I want to learn more about it and its library. Now of course I could emulate but I've heard pirating on the saturn is piss easy so I thought I would just buy one. Is it as piss easy as said to be? I'm prett bad with tech so I don't want anything involving physical mods like opening up. If it as easy what model is best or easiest for this?
Sega Saturn thread.
if my memory doesnt betray me here, i think to play pirated games you needed a mod chip inside the saturn, unlike the shitty playstation that played pirated disc's right out of the box
then again... they cracked the machine recently, so there might be boot blocks available to patch your ISO's?
inb4 that one autistic PS1 fanboy comes in and tries to convince us that the Saturn doesn't have "good" games
I wonder where the idea for this came from. I get that Conker's Bad Fur Day is supposed to be an adult version of Warner Bro's and other cartoons/kid's stuff. But what possibly was the influence for this.
It was Rare making a Zelda game with furries. Much earlier than Okami. And to tell you the truth i have mixed feelings. Probably the game would have been awesome in the N64, but it would have been launched around 2001-2002, and at that it would have sold like fucking shit while the PS2 was gangraping everyone.
>>3664191
I don't really about it anymore. You still technically got the game albeit in a butchered form. I don't think it would have been magically better had it stayed to course. Once you get over the high of the unknown from betas and things of that nature, you realize that one you play 1 N64 Rareware game, you've played them all. >>3664194 literally what he said. Just a Zelda clone with furshit in it.
And had it arrived for N64, it would of course tank in sales by that time period of 2001-2002, and I didn't really like how they tried to squeeze power out of the system just because "muh legacy". Tooie, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have fuckawful framerates. Imagine Dinosaur Planet. Probably 5 FPS.
And lastly, they began to lose their luster with Conker, so yeah. Wouldn't have mattered either way what they did in the end.
>>3664938
>Tooie, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have fuckawful framerates. Imagine Dinosaur Planet. Probably 5 FPS.
I don't agree with this. First up, you've included Goldeneye, a game released in 1997, among games released several years later. Secondly, Tooie was rushed for release and somewhat unfinished (witness the sloppy Swap and Stop and the almost-completed-but-cut Bottles' Revenge feature). This probably explains why Tooie seems to keep a stable framerate in many complex scenes but many times has a bad framerate when it is displaying literally nothing. It obviously didn't receive that final important pass of optimization.
Perfect Dark had a tumultuous development (half of the team, the most important Goldeneye people, left through development). They reused the Goldeneye engine with only minor improvements literally because of time restraints. David Doak wanted Rare to make a new and more efficient engine but he left and it never progressed beyond a prototype.
Had Dinosaur Planet been properly refined (and not so much time wasted on literally reprogramming it for a different console) it might have run extremely well. It's not just a matter of "add graphics and it runs slower", work can also be put into optimization. Even Conker which doesn't always run at a good framerate (~20 FPS) displays the kind of advanced graphics that would have caused lesser N64 software to literally run at 5 FPS.
What's an affordable mini PC that can emulate at good speeds?
Want to do at least N64 emulation, as screwed up as it can be sometimes.
>>3663832
>Want to do at least N64 emulation
Not going to happen. N64 emulation is shit on every single platform. Unless you count Nintendo's in-house emulator on GC / Wii, which is somewhat spotty but works.
>What's an affordable mini PC that can emulate at good speeds?
Just salvage an old desktop and hook it to your TV.
If you really insist on playing N64 ROMs, then consider investing in a used Wii and soft-mod it. You can download Virtual Console WADs off the Internet. But this limits you to whatever N64 games Nintendo has actually made available through their VC service, which is only a handful.
>>3663864
Look, I know n64 emulation is fucked, I'm not trying to emulate anything harder then Mario 64 or Ocarina tho.
>>3663870
Fucking anything will be fine for mainstream N64 games as long as you don't have autism.
Mario 64 is playable on a fucking PSP for crying out loud.
