My husband doesn't like Chrono Trigger.
Should I fire him?
>>3674241
Maybe he just sucked at it or got lost? Make him replay it
Also suck his dick or even give him a handy J to reward him when he does good in boss fights. That always motivates my man and creates new memories ensuring he'll think more fondly of the game.
definitely fire him. Even if its not his favorite, saying he "doesn't like it" just means he has no taste at all. Its the definition of likeable.

can we have a nice comfy secret of monkey island thread?
>>3674038
>start playing Secret of Monkey Island
>get sick of Dial-a-Pirate
>realize if I play it through ScummVM it skips DRM
>but I have to start the game over and I already beat the first chapter
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
>>3674038
Ok, as long as you keep it to the first two parts and don't include any of the remakes
What gave it that comfy feel?

What are some more pre-GTA 3 open world games worth taking a look at?
Metal Max (it's a series). You can do whatever the fuck you want from the beginning of the game. You can forget about your quest and go bounty-hunting, you can go get killed by the final boss in the first 5 minutes and so on.
>>3674012
Does The Terminator (1990) count?
Everything GTA3 did Tai-Pan did before it. You can beat people, play casino, fuck hookers and steal others people vehicles.
It's actually better than elite
What's everyone's thoughts on this trilogy?
For me, first was fine, second was best, third was fucking tedious and abysmal.
Loved the first two. Had no idea there was a third. Thought Westwood could stand alongside Lucasarts and Sierra in thier day.
Second was the best, first was good. Third only played 10 minutes of
Played the third and I think I got permanently stuck because I used an item in a wrong way.

Why did sidescrolling mech shooters die out?
They were such a cool genre.
Same thing that happened to most 2d genres - they went 3d.
>>3673696
I assume that's because sidescrolling shooters in general died out around the same time. It's a pity because sidescrollig shooter genre could have gotten a new life on dual analog systems. 3D mech games are pretty popular in Japan to this day though.
I wish Valken 1/Cybernator got a better follow-up… Leynos 2 wasn't what I expected, and Valken 2 was a strategy game.
>tfw Assault Suits Valken 2 is CyberKnight 3 instead
Just bought this for my phone. Aside from the classics, what game should I play on it ?
I have a moga with a similar configuration. it gets a bit heavy after a while with a note 3 so no RPGs. When connected to the phone I use it mostly for MAME and 30 minute gaming sessions.
If it is a longer game session and I am out of town I use the stand that the moga comes with and place it on a desk in the hotel room or wherever. It's a lot more comfortable for 1-2 hour sessions.

Also android got some ports of stuff like KOTR and baldurs gate 2. Not sure how well optimized they are for gamepags though.

Why cant i ever get mame roms to work?
I somehow got aliens vs predator to work because it told me i needed the european version as well. Now for simpsons i got pack 1 and 2 and it still doesnt work.
Is it because of the mame version? Where can i get the most up to date mame roms?
planetemu is pretty up-to-date. it also points to the main rom.
u need qsound.zip for cps2 and some cps1 roms.
for simpsons, u need to get the 4player europe version. For roms with a bunch of different variations, look for the one with the biggest size because that will usually be the main rom. Also, planetemu always has a link to the main rom even if you click on a uh.. 'non-main' rom.
create an account on pleasuredome (google it), you can start downloading MAME roms right away in various formats, rollback sets, videosnaps, etc. There are lots of instructions on their wiki as well.
Just make sure to seed back what you download so you dont get shit listed.
>>3673617
I looked on there and theres a huge list. Ive downloaded them all almost and it still doesnt work
Virtua Fighter is coming back someday right?
in b4 Shenmue is a prequel to Virtua Fighter and Ryo is Akira
They're relegated to making cameos on Dead or Alive.
>Shenmue is a prequel to Virtua Fighter and Ryo is Akira
Wait what?
>>3673515
Maybe not. Yu Suzuki quit Sega. He's not the only man behind VF of course, but the last game came out around 10 years ago. Yep, they made 2 updates for it, but current gen has been around for some time already and no word on new VF yet.
As a long time Brood Wars fan I'm just now dipping my toe into Age of Empires 2, let's have a thread about it.
Anyone up for some games of the HD Edition on Steam?
>>3673370
This. This is my game, slong with WC3 TFT Exp, and Diablo II with LoD Exp. I remember starting out with AoE with the RoR Exp. Then seen AoEII and TC Exp. Lost my mind and bought it and loved it. I got the HD version but dont have much time playing it lately, along with any other game because being a manager sucks my life away.
>>3673843
Along with my spelling, grammar, etc
>>3673370
I need to get a low res monitor so I can actually play this while being able to see what's going on
Any idea what happened to these guys after the NES era?
They went from arguably being a third-party developer equal to or even surpassing Capcom and Konami to essentially a shovelware dev in the 16-bit gen. Interestingly they seemed to squander a lot of talent they had there, like developer Yoshiaki Iwata and composer Naoki Kodaka.
So what happened?
>>3673317
They had some good games in 4th and 5th gen, the bad ones were made by their American counterpart. Eventually like a lot of devs at the time they just either died,or make mobile gameswith the later being the case for Sunsoft
Well, since it is easier for you to write many sentences on this board instead of googling one word:
HERE YA FUCKING GO:
History
Sunsoft's history in video games began in arcades with two video games released in 1978: Block Challenger and Block Perfect. They had several arcade hits in the early 1980s such as Arabian, Ikki and Kangaroo. In the latter half of the 1980s Sunsoft began developing original games and technology for the home video game console market, with emphasis mostly on the NES. Sunsoft had gone international at that time, and it had the publishing might to secure major licenses of the day (such as Batman and The Addams Family).
Outside Japan their NES games were widely considered state of the art in graphical and aural prowess.[citation needed] Sunsoft was slow to transition to 16-bit consoles, however, releasing several NES titles that went unnoticed in the shadow of the Super NES launch.[citation needed] Additionally, a number of Sega games, including Fantasy Zone, Fantasy Zone II and After Burner, were ported for Nintendo consoles by Sunsoft. The games Sunsoft produced in the 16-bit era were no longer as polished or cutting-edge, the licenses were less prominent, and no new hit games appeared.[citation needed] Finally, in 1995, they heavily restructured in the face of bankruptcy, and all the company's pending projects were either sold to other companies or cancelled.[1]
Former Sunsoft producer and director René Boutin spoke on Sunsoft's problems before he left the company. Boutin explained in an interview that
>>3674894
it was around this time our Director of Development, David Siller, suddenly announced he was leaving to work for Universal Interactive. Then a short time later, in February 1995, the entire staff was called in for a meeting where Sunsoft’s president announced that the company was shutting down effective immediately. They kept on a skeleton crew of four or five people to wrap up operations and facilitate transfer of IP over to Acclaim, but that was it for production, QA, and marketing. By this time, Looney Tunes B-Ball was in QA at Nintendo and we had just gotten Speedy Gonzales to beta, so it was about to go as well. It turned out that Sun Corporation had lost millions on some golf course investment in Palm Springs and it cost us all our jobs.[2]
Sunsoft of America eventually resurfaced with a scant number of video games for the PlayStation and the Game Boy Color, such as Monster Seed. From 1994 to 1998, Sunsoft attempted the fighting game craze by releasing four fighting games: Sugoi Hebereke for the Super Famicom (1994), Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors for the Neo Geo (1995), Waku Waku 7 for the Neo Geo (1996), and Astra Super Stars for Sega ST-V-based arcades (1998). Prior to its re-emergence in the USA, the last games released and published by Sunsoft stateside were Eternal Eyes, Blaster Master: Blasting Again, Blaster Master: Enemy Below, and Power Quest. Citing several factors, like yet-another "next generation" console transition, and high overhead production costs, Sunsoft closed its offices in America and Europe, and initiated a re-organization. Sunsoft has continued to operate out of its corporate headquarters in Japan, developing and publishing role-playing video games, pachinko games and mahjong games, and mobile platform titles in partnership with other companies such as NTT DoCoMo and Yahoo!.
