Need a spot of help
I'm playing Suikoden 2, and discovered opening any of the boxes in the doggies forest triggers a glitch involving lambs later.
But there's a patch for it. So I downloaded https://www.suikosource.com/games/gs2/guides/patches.php and ran it, but the file it gave me does not show up on my emulator
It also doesn't have VLC icon like all my other roms for some reason
I'm sure one of you knows what's up, mind helping me here?
Aha, nevermind. I just had to write .bin at the end
Suikoden thread I guess, if anyone wants
Should I start with II or V? Does anyone have a chart related to the series?
>>3666839
Start with II, but have a complete game save of 1 before hand and read the story synopsis and some character wiki's for 1 before playing 2
I picked up an old super nintendo (PAL) from my friend the other day to test it to see if it still worked.
When i plugged it in and turned it on nothing appeared on the screen, so I gave the cartridge slot a good clean with some cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol.
Now whenever i turn it on i get a jumbled mess on the screen like pic related when plugged into the multi out and awful static when plugged into the RF out port.
Does anyone know the possible cause of this problem and how to fix it? I haven't torn it apart yet since i don't have a game bit, but i can probably just make a makeshift one with an old crappy flathead and a dremel
>>3666575
>PAL
Nobody cares.
>>3666575
probably either theres a trace broken going to or from a chip or a chip itself is fucked.
Or one of the pins in the slot aren't reading
What are the best SW games to play for that old-school Star Wars lore feel?
>>3666480
Dark Forces
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight
>>3666483
Yep, played these, they're a lot of fun, I love the live acting in DF2.
Also:
Mysteries of the Sith
Shadows of the Empire
>>3666480
Try X-Wing Alliance. Damn fun plus there is a simulator that lets you kind of go hog wild setting up skirmishes for kicks and giggles.
Which do you guys prefer, 2d platformers or 3d platformers?
This is a board for retro games.
What do you think?
>>3666414
I think your being a little hasty
Is there even any decent 3D platformer?
>mfw I can play games as the developers intended at 60Hz on a consumer CRT with composite cables
>mfw I can play games at 60Hz on a consumer CRT with cheap scart cables
>mfw I use the best accurate emulators
>mfw I don't even play video games, I just bask in the sweet schadenfreude of seeing mongs sperging out over trivial shit like what's retro gaming and how to play it
Anybody else here use BigBox? I wanna talk about media center setups, what you had to do to get things running ect.
Realized my pic wasnt retro friendly and had to delete the thread
>>3666289
What is BigBox?
Anyways I've been thinking about setting up a retro rig for my kids. I was thinking of going with RetroArch but I'm not sure if I can make it simple enough for a 9 and 6 year old.
>>3666289
I do and after a while I switched back to hyperspin. I prefer its chaotic feel with lots of different animations and nothing looking the same, which isn't usually like me since I usually go for unified look. LaunchBox is too regimented and orderly for me but it's pretty good at what it does and the community is very enthusiastic and helpful.
>>3666353
If you put in the hard work launchbox will keep it pretty simple for them and even moreso if you stick to the non-cd consoles.
Anyone remember a the flier for a super obscure, probably cancelled, retro game that was posted here a while ago? The main character was carried by balloons Balloon Fight style, he looked sort of like Milon crossed with Plok themed as a jester, and he was floating in front of backdrops based on famous paintings, I think one of them was pic related. If anyone could post that /vr/ flier, I would be very grateful.
bump pls
I know exactly what you're talking about but I can't seem to find it in the archive
>>3667269
Yeah, I ransacked the archives but couldn't find it. My only hope is to see if someone has it saved.
/vr/, Mother or Mother 3?
Which one do you think is better?
I recently played through Mother and wow was it good. I cant decide if I like it more than Mother 3 though.
This is only half-retro
Mother 3 is like swallowing a grapefruit. A really delicious, nutritious, and satisfying grapefruit.
But you have to swallow it whole.
Mother is just a box of god damn mandarin oranges I tell you what
Yeah, sorry it's half-retro. I was considering doing 1 vs EB at first, but I feel like it's been done a lot.
ITT we post whatever clues we have and try to find the name of that mysterious old game we played and never could find the name of.
I'll start. It was a game from around 1998, perhaps earlier. It's definitely no older than GoldSrc (Half Life).
What I can recollect of that game is organic levels, as if made of meat. It was either an FPS or a TPS, and you sort of flied around bumping things. There weren't any weapons, and for some reason, I think a fetus was important. I have the impression it was a puzzler. It was rather obscure, it wasn't a mod or TC. I got it from a demo disc back in the day. The closest I got is to this pic of Dead Reckoning (which isn't the game I'm looking for).
Also, the game HUD was thematic. Also organic, if I remember correctly.
>>3666171
Microcosm?
Back in '97-98 I came along a pirate game CD (most of the games were demos or shareware anyway). Among those games were the likes of Duke, Witchaven 1/2, Blood Omen, and the one I'm currently searching for.
It was a Warcraft 2 or C&C-like RTS set it prehistoric times. I remember sides being various savage tribes and dinosaurs. I don't remember whether dinos were units available to all sides, or were they their own faction. What I do remember however, is some of the starting savage units were female, and that the sprites were pretty good and detailed.
Wasnt there blood in this game?
Anyone knows how to unlock it, the internet has very few info about this series
>>3666087
Arcade or PS1?
>>3666209
PS1 I also got the Japanese version since I was curious. But would they really remove it from this version.
>>3666290
Apparently blood was only in the beta version of the game.
Please tell me what you know about the gpd win. Looking to get one to play some lords of the realm 2 while at work
Please and thanks
So, is this the next incarnation of the Retron guy?
Oh, right. My wife's son really enjoyed it, OP!
>>3665939
Wtf are u talking about faggot
>>3665928
It's an Android device. Android emulation sucks. End of story.
Now, are you going to bring in all your mobile IPs to samefag the thread and launch ad hominems at anyone who tells you not to waste your money on an overpriced Android device that isn't worth a shit? It's your move, Shekelstein. Don't think I haven't come prepared this time.
ITT: casual filters
>>3665909
You don't know what casual means, do you?
You should say "noob filter" you fucking newfag.
>>3665925
Lol, dick head
>>3665909
This thing is frustrating
Good evening /vr/ I am about to start my Final Fantasy marathon starting with the first game. My question is though, which version should I play? I am currently looking at the psp port but I am unsure if any of the other versions have more or less features that I should play.
>>3665879
psp port for FF1 and 2
>>3665879
PSP has more content, PSX is closer to the original.
The PS1 version fixes most (maybe all) bugs that were in the original version, but is otherwise the closest thing to the original experience. The GBA version and on nerfs the difficulty and casualizes the MP system so much that the game becomes piss easy. To compensate, it also ramps up the encounter rate, which makes playing any of those versions a tedium.
So yeah, stick with the PS1 version for both propriety and sanity.
Hey /vr/
There seems to be an often overlooked, maybe not even known about, stabilization and even marginal recovery between 1996 and 1997 in Sega's income.
What happened? Was this when they started offering four games with the Saturn?
Also, this graph hurts to look at. That herculean struggle.
>>3665857
The 96 holiday season saw 3 free games with every Saturn purchase. It seems to me like that played a role in curbing off the income drop. That's pretty incredible, considering it was dropping at like 10 billion yen.
If that graph is accurate then Sega blew it because they should've been able to make up that deficit on merchandising alone.
>>3665892
It is correct. I have no idea what happened. When they cancelled the Saturn their money plummeted, obviously, in 98.
Is the PC Engine really worth it if I'm only going to be buying hucards? I really want one and think they look awesome, but am having trouble justifying it when it seems that most of its shmups got Super Famicom ports. Sell me on the PC Engine /vr/
Dragon Saber
Splatterhouse
Legendary axe 1 and 2
Aldynes
R-Type
Keith Courage
Dragon Spirit
There are great games on the Turbografx like Ninja Storm or or Bonk's Revenge. But the prices are getting out of control, so I would check the /v/'s recommended wiki for must have Turbo chips and get them on an everdrive to save on money if you have the console, or emulate them on the Wii.
>>3665814
If you have to justify all your purchases /vr/ may not be for you. I finally buckled down and bought a PCE and a turbo everdrive. I don't play it more than a bunch of my other systems but I don't regret spending the money.
>>3665823
>Not mentioning Bomberman '94 or Bonk series.
Otherwise you're nailing it.
